I still haven't found a ring I love. How about this one?

The Promise Lattice ring (the hexagonal thick band with lattice and stars).

I do really like this one. I think.

My friend has this ring:

www.georgjensen.com/uk/smykker/ringe/fusion-ring-18-kt-yellow-white-and-red-gold-with-brilliant-cut-diamonds

She can take it all apart, and wear one, two or all three.

wendihouse22 · 03/06/2011 12:01

Op....didn't mean what OTHERS think in future....meant how you might feel. The promise ring, I think, would "date" very quickly.

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:06

Oh my goodness! SO many links. Thank you everyone!

I do love this coast ring from NOTHS, though it wasn't what I had in mind. Tempted to get that too.

In fact, lots to explore on NOTHS.
This gem ring is sweet.
This is gorgeous but maybe a bit sweaty.

What about this?

Lots more sites to explore... Asley Clarke looks gorgeous. Will the colours last do you think?

Am going to be clicking all afternoon at this rate...

Asley Clarke stuff is gorgeous and so far all my things have stood the test of time and the colours are still as vivid...

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:18

This is beautiful but I'd want to hold it before buying.

I have just ordered this but it might be a bit bulky for you.

The Monica Vinader stacking rings are lovely too here

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:22

You know what though? I keep coming back to this. It's like a grown up version of the 21st ring that snapped.

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:30

He he - am clicking through all of these with 5yo dd at my side. Every page we look at she unfailingly points out the pink one and earnestly asks me if I like that one best. Sweet girl.

I have remembered another reason I am asking MNers advice on this. I want a grown-up ring. I have a habit of being swayed by shiny tat and have in the past spent small fortunes on pieces of jewellery that once I get them home look like something I got out of a cracker.

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:32

This is a typical example. I adore it. But actually it's very little girly isn't it.

My taste in things is not in harmony with how I see myself, if that makes any sense? I want to be a bit classy and grown-up, and then I buy a load of glittery tat and wonder why I look like a 5yo.

If you really like that one would you consider having it made abroad? Im currently in Dubai and there is a fantastic place here which will make anything. I had my wedding band copied, it cost 1200 gbp in the uk, here it was 45o gbp!!! Ill link you the wed page if you like, they do international deliveries

silverfrog · 03/06/2011 12:37

I wouldn't buy the "bird in a lotus garden" ring as an example of a ring to wear all day every day and love forever as a symbol of something (which is what I have interpreted you want - a ring to replace the diamond ring your dp gave you years ago).

I mihgt buy it, wear it for a season, love it al the while, but not day in, day out forever.

and I wouldn't buy any of the brightly coloured/modern designed ones for that reason either - some of them are stunning indeed, but to me they are more occasion wear than daily wear.

tribpot · 03/06/2011 12:44

Aubergine, I love that Harriet Kelsall one, perhaps because it's quite similar to my engagement ring :) (Platinum band inset with 3 pink sapphires and 8 little diamonds - I also don't like rings with sticky-out stones).

I do think you need something timeless, for a forever ring. Keep looking - you'll know it when you see it! I went to Paris for my engagement ring, looked at loads, then came home to Bury St Edmunds and found it in one of the jewellers in town Grin

BelleEnd · 03/06/2011 12:45

The coast one. It's lovely and romantic. I want one.

allhailtheaubergine · 03/06/2011 12:49

Where do you get stuff made in Dubai Barbie? I go to Dubai a lot. Have been to a couple of recommended places but always been quoted really high prices, and tbh not been confident that what I end up with is what I think I am buying.

OP posts:
silverfrog · 03/06/2011 12:50

you will know when you see it.

keep looking about.

I had my dh tearig his hair out over engagement rings, as I knew what I didn't want (same as you - no sticky out stones, can't abide them!), but didnt really know what I did want.

spent forever choosing - finally chose one.

woke up in a cold sweat that night as had chosen somehting I knew I wouldn't love forever.

back we went ot the shop...

couldn't choose (again!)

they lent me a ring (a Victorian half eternity) for a few weeks, so that I could get used to wearing one, and see what I liked/disliked etc.

went up the road for a coffee, adn thought "hmmm, this really is quite nice", and my engagement ring is a ring we designed based on that borrowed ring.

it takes time, but do keep looking. don't "settle" for something, as the lst thing you want is to get bored of it.

MmeLindor. · 03/06/2011 12:50

Yes, agree with Silverfrog.

You need something that is memorable but not too blingbling.

noddyholder · 03/06/2011 12:51

I really like it.

montmartre · 03/06/2011 13:31

Have you ever looked at Christian Bauer?
We got our wedding rings from them, they are really heavy, fantastic quality, lots of different designs, but not flashy at all (well ours aren't)
I know it's not a wedding ring, but some of their rings aren't very weddingy IYSWIM- like this one
This is similar to one linked above...

and I really quite like this one on the left

You have a lifetime resize offer too (it gets sent back to them and they send you identical ring in your new size)- I haven't had to do it, though maybe when I'm older and plumper... Grin

montmartre · 03/06/2011 13:32

Sorry- this is quite nice too...

basingstoke · 03/06/2011 13:42

Can you go to a manufacturing jewellers? I had my engagement ring made because what I wanted isn't easy to find. The overall cost was reasonable in comparison with other rings with a stone of similar quality.

barbie1 · 03/06/2011 13:42

A place in the new gold souk, cara...if i didnt have a screaming baby to deal with i would link for you!

ggirl · 03/06/2011 14:10

MmeLindor - I have ordered the exact same ring !!

MmeLindor. · 03/06/2011 14:28

ggirl
Really? I love that ring and have been looking at it for ages. Then MV took it off the website so I had to rush to find someone who still had one in stock. Cannot wait for it to arrive.

The Christian Bauer website is interesting, that kind of style is VERY popular in Germany, where women tend to have just a diamond wedding ring and no engagement ring. There are bound to be more like that.
