Want to look GOOD by June 4th - that's just over a month. Please share your weight loss and toning tips

Back story is that I have just tried a week of pig to twig (Atkins type diet)

I feel horrific and haven't lost any weight. Kind of feel faint and my head feels very odd and I cannot face it any more. Just ate some boiled potatoes with olive oil and feel a bit stronger. I just don't think that diet is for me. I also slept very badly on it.

But... I want to look better in a month than I do now!

Despite moving house and working full time and having two DDs, I will try to find the time to do the 30 day shred plus I do walk 15 mins each way before getting on bus to the office. I wear MBTs even though they look horrible.

But it's the diet side of things that I get stuck on... If I deny myself something I then fantasise about it. I actually eat very healthily, and cook everything from scratch, don't have diet coke cravings or eat many sweet things. I get low blood sugar moments and have low blood pressure so anything too extreme and I faint or get ill (sounds very dramatic, maybe I'm just a wuss)...

Please share your successful dieting tips. I am 69 kilos and 5'6". I would like to be 59-60 kilos. I was 56 kilos before having DD1. Bloody hell.

I also "failed" as ate pizza but it was dh day off and we went for lunch,i had big salad and 3 pieces of thin pizza and left the crusts.I also bought some knee supports ready for my lunges.
Rusmum im a bit hit and miss with my joints too,im seeing physio. It went off while i was pg so dont think its severe. I also walked miles today.

Passthetwiglets I'm a 36HH and tried all sorts bra-wise a couple of years ago when I started jogging and did the Great North Run. I have exactly the problem you do.

Best I found was to wear my normal underwired bra and then add a non-underwired sports bra over the top. This made everything stay put and I really enjoyed being able to run, jump etc for the first time ever.

I've just ordered the Shred dvd, so will be digging out said sports bra this week!

PassTheTwiglets · 05/05/2011 17:46

lily06, doh - a solution, just as I've bought an underwired sports bra! :) I'm not paying nearly £30 for another one so I will have a look on ebay. I hate the stoopid Shred DVD though, HATE it. I don't like being that exhausted and hurty and it's so boooooooring - why can't she do Workout 1 different every time? :o

moonface73 · 05/05/2011 18:20

hello! new to this but have a shred question? just started it the other day and loving it but can someone tell me ;
do you do it for 30 days solid?
and in the (unlikely) event of me doing that what do you do after to maintain?

thanksxxx

blossoming · 05/05/2011 18:44

Hi moonface. I did a solid 30 day: 10 of each level. To maintain I did 5 days alternating level 2 and 3. I recently fid 5 days a week of 6 week 6 pack (another Jillian DVD) but find myself returning to Shred 3 most of the time. It's still working so why stop?

Chulita · 05/05/2011 19:02

blossoming what weightage do you use?

I've just signed up to myfitnesspal.com and so far it seems really good. I had a bowl of ice cream with DD and only after putting in the food diary did I see just how many calories there are in it. I'm not going to massively calorie count but it looks like a really good way to keep track of stuff.

moonface73 · 05/05/2011 19:51

Thanks blossoming! Sounds fab - did you get great results?

naturelover · 05/05/2011 20:13

blossoming, I realise my BMI is good and I am slim, but I hate my body shape (all out of proportion) and so I would like to try and lose the weight on my tummy to improve matters. I don't need to lose weight per se, IYSWIM.

blossoming · 05/05/2011 20:31

moonface, it's almost a year now. I started last June. Arms, legs, bum, boobs (firmer and higher), all very toned. I have quite a boyish shape so I'm still not completely happy with my belly where I put on weight first. People comment all the time.

chulita, I started with 1.5kg and moved up to 2.5kg. I'm not increasing as I still struggle with a certain exercise in level 2, and the jumping jacks with weights in level 3.
I bought York weights from Amazon, a set of 3, starting with 1kg.

MeMudmagnet · 06/05/2011 11:33

Just had a look at 'my fitness pal', and it does look a good way to keep track.
What would you enter for 20 mins of shredding though? Circuit training? or aerobics? And would the calories burned go up as you go up the levels?

Chulita · 06/05/2011 12:20

I did it as circuit training and I don't reckon it would go up because you get fitter. I reckoned on about 190 cals per session. Both yesterday and today it's stopped me snacking just thinking about having to input it and see the calories rack up. The novelty may well wear off though...

notyummy · 06/05/2011 12:38

Interestingly though Chulita, muscle burns a lot more calories than fat, so your metabolic rate is raised as you get more toned. having said that, if you lose a lot of weight, you burn less calories through exercise as you have less weight to heft around!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 06/05/2011 14:18

If you want to change shape you need to take up weights.

If you have serious back pain after the Shred, don't do the shred.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 06/05/2011 14:22

Actually that's not entirely the only course of action if you have back pain, sit down and watch the shred without participating so you understand exactly how the moves are done. Maybe try and do the moves properly (but don't do the shred IYSWIM) using a mirror to check out your form. Try and do the shred but not at too high an intensity (i.e.do the moves without any weights) and if you still have back pain then don't do the shred.

Mg - bad form to be advertising anywhere but the right threads (where you have to pay) on Mumsnet.

Bellebelle · 07/05/2011 19:38

Play.com have just emailed me to say that the Shred DVD is out of stock - a week after I ordered it Hmm

Anyone else who ordered it from play or other website recieved theirs yet as I may go elsewhere?

bossyboop · 08/05/2011 15:37

ordered mine from thehut.com still not posted, may also be another one out of stock. But the 'banish fat boost metabolism' arrived but sadly I had sore muscles so thought it best to wait as from what I have read here I will be in agony the next day so thought I best start on full fitness Hmm Starting tomorrow, will take some measurements and do a weigh in.

HazedandConfused · 09/05/2011 09:42

Mine was ordered from Amazon and is on its way already, eek - am dreading it turning up so I actually have to DO it! Blush

carolemiddleclasston · 09/05/2011 12:30

Did day 1 today. Felt okay during but now quite achy!
20 days until my holiday so won't manage the whole 30 days before then but I'm hoping it will show by then anyway.

blossoming · 09/05/2011 12:32

Hi everyone. How are you all doing?

I got the How not to get fat, daily diet book this weekend and just had a delicious pork chop with a sage and creme fraiche sauce for lunch from it.
I also bought, as I am a complete fan of the show, Biggest Loser: beach body blitz.
It is a 2 week programme with loads of great ideas for snacks. It avoids wheat and dairy aswell as sugar though, but would be a great way to prepare yourself for the beach, especially if you did the Shred aswell. Half the book is exercises, but I find it difficult to work out what they are, I need a dvd!
So in an attempt to fix this belly once and for all I shall attempt 2 weeks of wheat free. I found a Dove's Farm organic brown rice fusilli in my health food shop this morning. Takes 6-8 mins to cook and honestly tastes like normal pasta. They had spaghetti aswell. I shall be packing it in my suitcase!

As a mid morning snack this morning I made a salmon pate with tinned salmon and Light Philadelphia and had it on 2 wholegrain rice cakes topped with cucumber.

Corriewatcher · 09/05/2011 13:27

I'm one of those still waiting on The Shred DVD arriving, although I'm expecting an email from Play saying it's out of stock. No matter really, as last week I did either a 30 min run or my Davina DVD each day. Felt some good results. Things went downhill a bit at weekend when I went to a 40th party and staggered home at 3am! Haven't done any exercise since, but hopefully the 3 hour full body workout I had on the dancefloor will count until I feel up to a run tomorrow!
Have been making my own soups for lunch and trying (although not always succeeding) to watch my portions at dinner.
