Want to look GOOD by June 4th - that's just over a month. Please share your weight loss and toning tips

Back story is that I have just tried a week of pig to twig (Atkins type diet)

I feel horrific and haven't lost any weight. Kind of feel faint and my head feels very odd and I cannot face it any more. Just ate some boiled potatoes with olive oil and feel a bit stronger. I just don't think that diet is for me. I also slept very badly on it.

But... I want to look better in a month than I do now!

Despite moving house and working full time and having two DDs, I will try to find the time to do the 30 day shred plus I do walk 15 mins each way before getting on bus to the office. I wear MBTs even though they look horrible.

But it's the diet side of things that I get stuck on... If I deny myself something I then fantasise about it. I actually eat very healthily, and cook everything from scratch, don't have diet coke cravings or eat many sweet things. I get low blood sugar moments and have low blood pressure so anything too extreme and I faint or get ill (sounds very dramatic, maybe I'm just a wuss)...

Please share your successful dieting tips. I am 69 kilos and 5'6". I would like to be 59-60 kilos. I was 56 kilos before having DD1. Bloody hell.

after ds was born i used the marissa peer book and cd to drop down from a size 16 to a 10 and plan on doing it again once i have ds2 in 2 weeks. its basically cutting out wheat and diary products...i dropped a stone in a month which was hard to imagine when reading the book and i cannot wait as i have been scoffing my face with toast and milkshake and pasta and all the things i normally stay away from. can i add that i didnt exercise when the first stone came off. after the first month i did start swimming twice a week at least, more if dh was home early enough. good luck either way. (you can find marissa peer- u can be thin- on amazon if ur interested)

I read an article where the TA Method was analysed by a PT, a doctor and z nutritionist. They were hugely scathing and said it was deeply unhealthy, unsustainable and could lead to illness. Too few calories to sustain the levels of exercise required basically. Nice route to hair loss, bad skin and weight gain if you then want to eat anywhere near a normal amount of calories.

notyummy · 02/05/2011 21:06

30 DS probably about 25 mins if you factor in warm up and cool down.

Hi Christiane and everyone else, it seems there are many of us is the same boat so joining a thread might just help with my motivation. I would like to lose a stone and a dress size in the next four weeks, (a tall order I know but might as well try) I have a holiday with a skinny friend and need a little help with my self esteem jelly belly, but my main reason is that DH will be home from Afghanistan in July for two weeks R&R and it would be lovely if I had finally got rid of my baby weight and actually resemble the woman he married. Eating slabs of millionaires shortbread is really not going to be aiding my cause though.

Dosey · 02/05/2011 21:09

I also have myfitnesspal as an app on my phone. Its a calorie counter but when you first register you put in how much you want to loose and it calculates a daily calorie intake. My daily calorie is 1250 which isnt hard to stick to. It calculates your exercise too so you can really keep on top of what you are eating. It also calculates your nutrient summary too. I find it very helpful you can really see where your downfalls are and it has stopped me mindlessly snacking.

Here are my weight loss tips:

  1. Breakfast. I use to skip breakfast until I found out that if you don't eat within half hour to an hour of waking up, your metabolism rate slows well down. I began eating breakfast and actually lost weight on this alone.
  1. Pacing. Whenever I talk to friends on the phone, I walk up and down. Just bear in mind that every movement you make burns calories. So I just try to move as much as possible. I go the long way round rather than take shortcuts. I don't try to remember to take anything downstairs to save an extra trip.
  1. Paul Mckenna's "I can make you thin". I thought this was brilliant, some great advice for losing weight for example eating slower, putting your fork down in between mouthfuls, drinking water when peckish (as sometimes your body confuses thirst with hunger) etc. He is against dieting for the very reasons you have failed to diet!
  1. When I needed new clothes I bought the size I wanted to be (12) not the size I was (14). Having nothing to wear is a great motivation for me! As is having some lovely clothes waiting in the wardrobe for me.
  1. Tracey Andersons mat workout worked well for me, she's all about working muscle groups in a particular way to achieve maximum benefit.
  1. I used to be a chocaholic. Everytime I really wanted a chocolate bar I would put the money aside so that every month I had my chocolate money to buy a treat for myself - a book, dvd, bath bomb or whatever. I found once I got out of the habit, the addictiveness stopped. I can now eat chocolate occassionally without over eating or feeling I really need it.
  1. I know of people who have had amazing results with gastric band hypnotherapy. If you can't afford personal sessions, there are CD's available.
us4downhere · 02/05/2011 21:39

Oooo, please may I join in too? I need to lose about a stone and a half and generally tone up after having DS2 almost 5 years ago!! Blush

I already have the 30 Day Shred DVD and have done it twice but am rubbish at motivation so hoping this thread will help kick me get me into gear :)

Not liking the thought of getting up earlier - but I think that's the only way to do it for me.

dementedma · 02/05/2011 21:42

Can anyone help? I have started the couch to 5K programme and am on week 7 and can now jog 30 minutes without stopping, from struggling to do the 90 second runs at the beginning!!
Can see a huge difference in the front and outside of my thighs, but the insides remain very wobbly and flubbery. Likewise, the tummy has shrunk a bit but is still very porridgey and untoned. i try and run 3 times a week - what can I do for the problem bits? I am 47, 5 foot 7 and 11stone. Would love to get to 10 and a half and fit into my old clothes. When i got married (24 years ago) I weighed 8 stone!!!!!

latrucha · 02/05/2011 21:46

I'm dipping my toe into the waters of this thread.... I've lost 13k since I had DS 10 months ago. I've got 7 more to go until I lose the weight from DD 3 years ago!

I did it by not eating anything but salady things after 6 but it seems to have stopped now. I've now cut my breakfast in half. If that doesn't get the weight moving again in a few days, I'm coming straight back here.

Am googling the shred...

ledkr · 02/05/2011 21:48

can anyone tell me if the shred would be too tough for me?I had dd by c section 12 weeks ago,i was previously quite fit,at the gym 2-4 times a week but since i started back 2 weeks ago my tummy muscles ache like mad for a few days after. It sounds good tho,i have 2 stone of baby weight to lose and also do not wish to spend the summer in floaty maxi dresses.I have 2 wardrobes of clothes and only about 6 items fit me.Very frustrating.

Bluebell99 · 02/05/2011 21:53

Anyone ordering Shred, I hope you didn't order it directly from the link higher up the thread, as that sellerlinked to is selling it for £29.99 whereas Amazon itself is selling it for £5ish with a longer delivery time. HTHs

ledkr · 02/05/2011 22:00

play has it for about a fiver too-free p and p.

blossomtrees · 02/05/2011 22:05

i lost over 5 stone last year and i am managing to keep it off. I am now size 8to 10.I have done the shred and think it is highly overrated Davina McCalls workouts have made the most difference to me combined with cardio at the gym

Lavitabellissima · 02/05/2011 22:09

ledkr I did it after my c section and was fine but if it hurts around your scar area, I'd check with your doctor.

Good tips from Whethergirl, I agree about pacing and fitting in extra exercise, I do squats when trying to get the twins to sleep [cgrin]

I'm back shredding tomorrow. Will power people, it's what we need!

MrsPennySworth · 02/05/2011 22:11

Oh you're joking... I ordered it from the link - I didn't even think to look elsewhere! Sad

MrsPennySworth · 02/05/2011 22:15

If I can't cancel the order I'll just send it back for refund and reorder. Glad you mentioned that though, I would have never realised!

MrsPennySworth · 02/05/2011 22:23

Too late to cancel it - will have to send it back when it arrives! Booo!

Never mind !

Ishani · 02/05/2011 22:32

I am going to do the Jason Vale juice diet without the dieting which sounds a bit mad but basically i eat normal foods and everything i want to snack i have a juice instead.
The shred sounds fantastic but i've booked a PT to get me off the starting blocks otherwise i will still be 11.5 stone next summer, am 5'9" but that is a good stone too heavy for me :(

Scarletbanner · 02/05/2011 23:32

Oh me too, me too!

I need to lose about a stone and would like to tone up too, so I can buy something nice to wear for a big wedding I have to go to in July.

I've ordered the Shred (although like others, I'm not sure when I will find the time to do it) and am going to cut out the rubbish and cut down on carbs for a bit.

I've actually eaten so much stodge over the last few weeks that I'm looking forward to cutting back a bit. That's when you know things are bad!

MeMudmagnet · 03/05/2011 00:12

I REALLY need to join this thread.
I've piled the weight on in the last couple of years. I need to lose about 3 stone Blush Sad
I've ordered The Shred DVD, but I'm worried I won't be able to do it well enough for it to be effective. Is it really hard on the knees? My knees are are so weak, probably after running whilst being too heavy and I find lunges almost impossible. I'm hoping they will get better if I can lose some weight.

My tummy really needs some work, I'm so flabby I look pregnant!

I'd like to lose my first stone in a month, is this achievable?

ChateauRouge · 03/05/2011 01:00

It's probably doable, but not really advisable- if your body goes into starvation mode, you won't continue to lose weight.
Slow and steady is the best- 2lbs a week is the recommendation I think.

CheerfulYank · 03/05/2011 01:04

Just marking my place...I will let you know if when I have done the shred tomorrow. I can do! It's twenty minutes! I can do anything for twenty minutes! Yay Shred!

Nope, not working. But I'll do it if I've got you ladies to answer to :)

DoubleDegreeStudent · 03/05/2011 06:55

With the Shred do you need "gym clothes" (trainers, sports bra...). I'm at university abroad and would love to lose some weight before I go home, but all my kit is back in England (I swim here but not seeing results and I'm getting a bit fed up).

People are mentioning it is a bit jumpy... too jumpy to do in a flat with neighbours above, below and to the sides? (I don't know them and I've been very quiet all year - a bit of hopping around isn't a problem but don't want to go crashing through the ceiling!).

I'll order it now ready for when my exams have finished - can someone be on hand for some hand holding motivational shouting in 10 days please?

notyummy · 03/05/2011 07:58

Yes you do need trainers and a sports bra - it is fairly high impact (part of what makes it quite effective I suspect) so doing without probably not advisable. L1 and L2 has some jumping (jumping jacks, running with high knees etc) L3 has LOTS of jumping. Probably worth thinking about timing - neighbours probably not impressed if you were doing that over their head at 6am!

Memud - there are modified versions of most of the exercises, but it is fair to say that there are a fair few squats and lunges so if your knees are really bad you would need to be careful.
