Where is everybody???

Hello all.

Back in the land of the living today after suffering from wine related poisoning yesterday Blush. Enjoyed the party (too much!) on Saturday night. Opted for a maxi in the end, which I was pleased about as although it was a village hall ceildh thing, people had made a bit of an effort. Wore this dress from Giorgio which was cheap as chips in the sale and loads of people asked where it was from! Looks naf in the picture but nice on. The sandals from Zara went well with it.

Yesterday was fun after I got the morning suffering out of the way. Luckily our lovely mothers help had whisked DD away for a sleepover on Saturday night, and her 2 daughters (both early 20s) made a huge fuss of her, read her stories and played hide and seek for hours with her in their enormous garden. This at least meant that I could lie-in with the hangover! Then went to a vilage festival and on to a kind of garden party. Wore my Oasis houlilikies here with stripey top and flats.

Today has involved a run to atone for Saturday nights sins and taking dd swimming.

Great to see everyone enjoying the long weekend. Rufus - great to hear from you. I like that top, but not so sure about the trousers. I can't remember your shape (sorry!) but I think those trousers may not work quite as well if your bottom is not one of your better features. No pockets etc may mean not as flattering?

Glad Queens Day went well OWW.

MarshaBrady · 02/05/2011 17:45

everyspring you look beautiful in your wedding shot. Really lovely.

Welcome back Rufus Smile, I think I prefer the JCrew top.

Lovely sunny days, have had a relaxing, slouchy weekend.

On which note, Anniemac I have been thinking about how happy you must be to see your dh. Hope you have had a fabulous long weekend together (sure you have!).

Bit of a curve ball question, but you are all very knowledgeable about stuff so does anyone know about schools in the US. On the west coast in particular. Do people use private education? (in a similar fashion to the UK?).

blossoming · 02/05/2011 18:13

Rushing in as home alone.
Can't wait to get back to normal!
Hi rufus. We were just commenting the other day how we've lost a lot of lovely posters over the past few months. mrscb is a regular who has namechanged though, and everyspring. Sorry, don't like the trousers, but the top is better, if you want it to slouch round the house, but if that is the case, why buy J Crew for it?! I am sure there are better things out there for you!
So the only three in Dublin in Hasbeens are rufus, portia (also has namechanged) and verity. Good girls!!!
I'll be back later, hopefully, after I've had a good look at Sam Cam's dress. Apparently she's a spring though, according the HoC website.

mrsjuan Sorry to hear you had to worry about your DH's job. Hope you can relax a bit now.

roary Welcome back! I think the pencil skirt could work very well. Often it is just a matter of experimenting and getting used to new shapes with clothes I think.

bloss Or should you namechange to "mrsazure"? Have just read your account of family gathering yesterday and think I will take it as an inspiration outfit-wise and also frame-of-mind-wise.

ollie Ahh, Koniginnedag [csmile]. My DBIL always pays tribute to his Dutch heritage by doing the whole orange thing plus getting drunk celebrating with the very small Dutch community he knows. My Dsis is always a bit Hmm at the sight of him wearing a giant inflatable orange crown for going out on that day.

rufus Being without a proper Internet connection annoys me no end. Good to "see" you back! I think the JCrew sweater could be useful as a casual cover-up for chillier summer days. I am not particularly keen on the drawstring detail of the trousers. Could these be an alternative (from Zara in navy). Or are you looking for olive trousers?

every My Mum's birthday will be held at my parents' house. It is very casual with a lot of people dropping in from around lunchtime. Maybe I'll wear skinnies/heels/flower printed shirt.

FritziGreenEyes · 02/05/2011 19:06

Talking about name-changers: Where is our very own W&A royal wedding correspondent portia?

ny Sounds like a fab weekend. Your mother's help is a treasure!

MarshaBrady · 02/05/2011 19:08

Forgot to say MrsJ and Roary good to see you round these parts again.

Fritzi outfit sounds lovely.

So anyone brave enough to go to mn spring meet up?

blossoming · 02/05/2011 19:19

Thanks fritzi. I did feel a bit 'EA does chapel': all black, very high platforms but with the grey jacket that you have too. Oh and Dior sunnies (with a big fat D on the sides, so Italian!) I wish I could feel/look like that all the time!

NY you're right! I am a pear, so I just need to be steered away from these things.
Want the top for just slouching around, kind of "throw on when DH and I will be drinking a few glasses of wine on the campsite in July"! It's only 36 euro and free delivery so I can't go wrong really can I? (Oh yes I can)
Fritzi those are lovely, I must try in RL. I actually bought a similar pair in orange (never thought I'd see the day) last weekend, and though they were lovely in the shop, and when I tried on at home, they seem to have gotten baggier after one wear and are now unflattering on my pear behind. Bizarrely I find that a tighter fit works better for me.
And Miss Maxi Queen NY what do you think of this pink maxi from ASOS? It looks nicer in zoom strangely.
I'm also liking the look of this this jumpsuit in black Am I deluding myself?

notyummy · 02/05/2011 19:54

Rufus- love both of those links! Dress is v pretty.

blossoming · 02/05/2011 20:19

rufus, I have just been 'drinking a few glasses of wine on a campsite' with my DH, and I found a scarf very useful, and incredibly warming. I also wore a vest, a long sleeve top, a cardigan and a coat. But hey, I feel the cold!

Feeling very peeved.

I posted back some J brands that I bought from Revolve. Decided to go with the cheapest postage option from RM, seeing that I would only get £30 back if they got lost even if I went for £25 postage option.

Surprise, surprise, Revolve still not have received them, even though I posted on the 18th April. Am keeping my fingers crossed that it's just a customs delay, otherwise I have just thrown £110 away. Sad

Ungratefulchild · 02/05/2011 21:08

Not posted on this thread before. Has anyone got this dress www.my-wardrobe.com/vivienne-westwood-anglomania/black-drape-dress-712803 ?I really fancy getting it but wondered what it was like on? Also how do the sizes come up? small or big?

MarshaBrady · 02/05/2011 21:08

I love that pink top, great colour.

Everyspring let me know if you do!

The fabric has always put me off buying anglomania tbh. I could always send it back I suppose?...

blossoming · 02/05/2011 21:20

I agree with everyspring. You would definitely need an 'invisible' thong and a spanx half slip with that one ungratefulchild.

I'm sure they'll turn up wideawake. I have loads of returns to do tomorrow. I am done shopping!!
Although I do fancy some black sunglasses, mine seem to be a bit brown, preferably with a Chanel logo on the sides this time!

rufus' link made me think: Are any of you who had jumpsuits last year are going to wear them this summer? I have a cheapo black one (one shoulder/jersey) from Asos only worn once Hmm. Seems to dressed up for everyday and for dressing up I prefer other clothes.

uc Love the dress but agree what other's have said about right underwear being essential. Had a look at some VWA dresses in Selfridges and the fabric was lovely and soft but sooo thin.

wideawake I feel your pain! Ordered some jewellery from Etsy four weeks ago and still waiting...

FritziGreenEyes · 02/05/2011 21:57

too... sorry!

rufus101 · 02/05/2011 22:30

Every I like that H/M top. Very nice. Bought this in blue and white at the weekend, and it's very nice. I sized up to a 12 though! (Would normally be an 8) It's very very tight and I wanted something less constrictive. Looks lovely with the red hasbeens.
Think I might be a winter, as Bloss' colours suit me. I have dark brown hair with dark blue eyes, and sallow skin, that looks best with a tan. Black looks good on me, but brown can too. Cobalt blue is a very good colour on me, as is emerald green and hot pink, which is why I think I'm a winter. Whenever I do one of those colour things, I get confused though.
I am very tempted by the jumpsuit, wish I could try it in RL.

Fleecy · 02/05/2011 22:34

I have a VWA dress in that fine jersey and have to wear a spanx slip under it, even at my most toned. Lovely dresses though and I do always feel good in it.

wideawake probably will take longer because of all the BHs?

I have a black strapless jumpsuit from last year fritzi and if it still fits I am planning to wear it this year - with wedges and a linen blend jacket for work or with a statement necklace and wedges for evening when you want to look nice but not too dressy. I also wore mine last year with gladiator sandals and a straw trilby but one-shoulder maybe harder than strapless for casual?

Fleecy · 02/05/2011 22:35

Oh rufus I like that dress. Might have to give it a whirl myself...

Hi all
THanks for your pencil skirt tips - might take a pic and post it. I remember when I had my wedding dress fitted (had it made in Australia) the designer said that people have totally forgotten where the natural waist is as everything is worn on the hips, so redllama you are probably right and it is just a matter of getting used to it.

Marsha where on the West Coast? Have rellies in Seattle, all state schools there. California is a mix of state and private, but nice areas usually have very good schools and poor ones have bad schools. There are private ones too. Oddly we get applicants from both private and public high schools in California in quite high numbers.

Fritizi the way you feel about your jumpsuit is the way I feel about my maxi dress from last summer! Have a much more casual one this summer.
