Late 40s, menopausal and fading

I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Been following this one - with sadness and resignation - sigh. Lots apply to me and then getting out of the shower this morning caught sight of naked me in mirror and apart from usual looking away in disgust thought that my body was letting me down.

Then I had a revelation - I was letting my body down and not the other way about.

It's kept me healthy for 44 years, given me 5 children and I've no major illnesses. And yet I stuff it full of crap every day and think ITS letting me down by being 3 stone overweight and not exercising at all???

Time to redress the balance - and give my body what it deserves :)

pinkbraces · 27/04/2011 10:14

OMG Im so happy, I belong :)

Im almost 48 (just had to work that out on my fingers) Im not doing to bad but have noticed weight gain which just wont go. Have been doing 30 day shred and have just started on a Davina Body Sculpt workout, which isnt to bad.

Im thinking about low carb, but dont have a clue, can anyone point me in the right direction? I dont think I can cut out carbs totally, I love my rice, but could easily lose bread and pasta.

Libido, well sometimes like a porn star and sometimes its gone and I cant find it anywhere.

I dont think Ive started the menopause yet, periods are still ok, PMT lousy so am going to read through the whole thread to see if I can get some advice re supplements.

Memory is now shot, If I dont write it down it doesnt get done. Children no longer wait for more than 10 mins to be picked up, if Im not there its the bus!

I dont always remember peoples names :)

Im so happy Ive found you all.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:32

had no wine last night and went to the gym but still woke up and was lurking on here at 4 a.m. with horlicks
have lost a couple of pounds at last despite pigging out over the weekend and my jeans feel better around the waist. Must be the running.

kizzie · 27/04/2011 10:33

Lots of Envy at those in late 40's with no grey hair!!!

At 41 mine has been going grey for about 15 years and feel like im on a permanent dye rota - another desperately trying to fend off 'menopausal blonde'

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:33

I'm worried now that the hairdresser has 'menopausal blond' on my colour card.

BecauseImWorthIt · 27/04/2011 10:49

... with 'bold PMT highlights'

Swedes2 · 27/04/2011 10:53

Heck there's so many of us on MN. Welcome all of you.

I can't tell you how pleased I am to read about Herbaceous's bald patch on her pubes as I don't have that. Grin Grin Grin But this is what old people do, take great delight in the fact that they haven't got a problem that their friend has: "Eileen has a problem with her waterworks, touch wood my waterworks have always been marvellous. A doctor once said I had the clearest urine in Hertfordshire." Fer fark's sake.

I refuse to use G word.

I was v v norty yesterday. I cooked supper for our guests and had treacle tart and strawberries and cream for pudding... why did I do that? And I had two glasses of champagne and two glasses of wine. I did cycle to school and back with DD this morning though and I'm going to walk down to the play park now with DS3 before he goes to nursery.

I think Liz Hurley has a thickening ribcage. Ha!

I'm going to town later to get my running shoes.

I'm making a list of tracks I'd like to use for my running app - and DS2 said he would download it all for me later when he gets back from school and put it on my iPhone - although I think I'm going to pop into JLewis this afternoon and buy one of those weeeeny iPods.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:53

haha Grin
A hairdresser once told me that there was a style known to hairdressers as a 'Hale housewife' (Hale is an affluent place in Cheshire) I think it was the blond bob

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:54

Liz Hurley - surely not! Shock

Swedes2 · 27/04/2011 10:54

I am always forgetting how old I am. I think I'm 47.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:55

yes I have to think carefully about that one as well

Swedes2 · 27/04/2011 10:56

LadyCorny LOL @ Hale Housewife

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 10:58

I know! I dread to think what's on my card at the hairdressers. Hopefully nothing too horrible like a mutton mullet

cocolepew · 27/04/2011 11:07

I've had the ablation so no periods here (hooray!), but I sweat like a,erm, sweaty thing. It's shocking, it actually dips down my face sometimes. Insomnia has kicked in again, spend hours doing crosswords in the early hours of the morning (sobs).

When you bleed heavy or are having menopausal symptoms you can get very low in minerals, magnesium, zinc, iron etc. Most of the supplements have these in them though I find Pharmaton very good, it's not for menopause but has a lot of minerals in it. (Chronium helps stop sugar cravings).

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 11:09

how do you cope with the lack of sleep coco? It's a killer I find

cocolepew · 27/04/2011 11:09

We have the Bangor Bob where I live, blonde bob, metallic shoes, pastel slacks and pastel polo shirt with the collar turned up are the uniform. Belonging to a golf club optional.

LadyCornyOfSilk · 27/04/2011 11:10

Grinbangor bob

cocolepew · 27/04/2011 11:11

Not very well corny, I always fall asleep in the evening then its a vicious cycle. I have to admit to using Syndol to help me fall asleep when I first go to bed Blush

mittenkitten007 · 27/04/2011 11:13

Hullo all . . . still laid rather low with back spasm but have found out something that may be of interest to anyone with a muscle strain (though I hope nobody develops one!) you need to get the inflammation down asap to help the healing. To this end I have applied an ibuprofen gel thought it was just a painkiller but no, anti-inflammatory as well.

Feeling mentally foggy today and also seem to have gained weight yet again as a reward for eating sensibly and working out. Feh.

Swedes2 · 27/04/2011 11:20

I went to bed last night at 11pm. Then DS1 (19) came to get me to say it was the last day to book Olympics tickets and shouldn't we book some stuff. So I got up with him and we managed to book over £600 worth of Olympic treats for the family (gymnastics (artistic), tennis, running, cycling, rowing, canoeing, hockey). Then I unloaded the dishwasher and pottered around a bit and didn't get to bed until after 1am.
