I haven't as yet submitted to the full beard and elasticated waistband trousers. But heck, it's hard isn't it? I absolutely love clothes, make-up, and all that shit.... but I am becoming more and more interested in my garden (not a euph). Last night I went to the garage to buy milk in my gardening clothes.

Anyone else going through the same thing? Have you any tips you can share?

Also interested in the PMS supplements. I never really suffered until a couple of years ago and now get horribly ratty for days and days every month. I think it may be perimenopause, but haven't spoken to the GP. Or possibly a side effect of the Mirena coil? The onset seems to tally with that.

wordfactory · 26/04/2011 18:55

Oh God, can I join this thread?

I am a walker, but this is no longer sufficient to keep off poundage. Need. To. Run.

Am going to try for low carb diet and wine reduction.

Also, any good suggestions for cellulite? My entire body appears to be a satsuma.

Blackduck · 26/04/2011 19:09

Okay. Had hair cut today (always makes me feel somewhat more human...), and have downloaded C25K app and put music on iphone.....so I guess I need to unearth jogging bottoms and trainers. I am currently using Soap and Glory 'Wish upon a jar' (fab stuff) and am going to try to avoid wine, carbs and crap going forward (had to get this weekend out of the way first).

wilbur · 26/04/2011 19:25

Colette and MidnightExpress - the supplements I take are Evening Primrose oil (1000 mg days 1-14, 2000mg days 14-28) and Starflower Oil (1000 mg every day) which are for PMS specifically and also a Calcium/magnesium/boron supplement for bones. High doses of high quality stuff, along with bio identical progesterone cream rubbed into my forearms on days 14-28 seems to have done the trick. I now have 1 day a month where I am an ogre, instead of 2 weeks. I also take Resveratrol and Hyaluronic acid for anti aging and immune system issues (I have had my spleen removed and so have a slightly depressed immune system - not good as I age Sad). All the above does cost me a lot, but I am fairly low maintenance otherwise, and they make a big difference to how I feel.

I do Midnight, I do!
Then chortle heartily to myself so people stare even more.

kizzie · 26/04/2011 19:58

marking my space here to read properly later - only managed the first two pages so far and nodded at virtually every comment.

dementedma · 26/04/2011 20:16

can relate to almost all of this thread - am 47, grey hair, fat ribs, gunt, wear varifocals, sprout wiry chin whiskers and sparsity of pube.
Am 6 weeks into the couch to 5K programme and can now do about 20 minutes, from starting at 90 seconds!
Great for the legs - thighs are much more toned now - and have lost some poundage, but gut still there.

RoyalFucker · 26/04/2011 20:17

Can I join please ?

I am 45 and looking a bit "tired"

Am still slim (being 5ft 10 helps loads ) so look good in clothes but needing ones that hide the saggy knees, varicosities behind them and the gradually-crinkling decotellage and shoulder area

My hair is shit so I keep it short. I wear make up most days and contact lenses.

Have never smoked so at least don't have that typical purse-shaped mouth. I drink too much alcohol though...

I climb a lot of hills, so am hillwalking totty Smile

kizzie · 26/04/2011 20:27

Right Ive read more - definately belong here Shock Wink

Face creases that just dont go away *
Body shape thats COMPLETELY changed - even though I havent put on any weight *
Gone from spending absolutely no time on appearance to needing regular hair appointments - and a face cream that doesnt double up as body lotion *
Eyebrows that just seem to have gone thin (THIN EYEBROWS!!!) *

etc etc etc. loving all the tips

Hello ladies,

Am now obsessing about how I will listen to my ipod or iphone while running.

Apple Store say they don't make holder thing for iphone and only have band for ipod touch. Not sure if my ipod is one of those (got it long time ago).

Do I need band?

Sorry if this stupid. I am suffering effects of several nights of sleeping tablets. Makes me feel like crap and worry over everything.

MinginInTheRain · 26/04/2011 20:51

Just noticed this thread - hope I'm not too late to ask a stupid question. When does the menopause usually strike and what are usual symptoms just how bloody awful is it? Just had my 40th and a leetle bit concerned now...

breathing · 26/04/2011 20:56

Can you do the c25K without an ipod or suchlike?

RoyalFucker · 26/04/2011 20:57

most common age for menopause is early 50's but it is very variable, and often runs in families

the only possible peri-menopausal symptom I have found is that my periods are actually coming closer together, and much heavier

that is bloody ironic Angry

cyb · 26/04/2011 21:03

Mine have been every 21 days for about 3 years now..apart from last month where I was 2 weeks late, and then hardly anything. That was a good month

myjawdropped · 26/04/2011 21:04

Breathing yes, you can.

Print the schedule and time yourself so you get the distance/time.

I timed myself walking for one minute - 120 steps, and running 160. I use these to calculate how many footfalls are needed for each part of the program, as I do not have a stop watch.

RoyalFucker · 26/04/2011 21:08

cyb, horrid innit

I used to be regular every 28-30 days

now it's 25'ish and one cycle of 18 days recently !

what the Jeff is that all about ?

CointreauVersial · 26/04/2011 21:09

Yes breathing, you can do Couch 2 5K with nothing more than a wristwatch, but it is so much easier if you have someone in your ear telling you when to start and stop running (as it is all about interval training).

The basic way is to download a podcast onto an MP3 player (see my earleir post), or if you are i-pod enabled then you can get more sophisticated apps.

Miniegg - put it in a pocket, or in a bumbag. You can get armbands on eBay for just about any shape or size of MP3/iphone.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/04/2011 21:13

Miniegg - mine is tucked down my knicker band. It stays put (probably because I need bigger knickers) .

24 days here usually but I'm late this month.

breathing · 26/04/2011 21:17

Thanks

Ive never had a mp3 or ipod...never moved past cds

breathing · 26/04/2011 21:17

i dont even know what an ap is Blush

WhatsWrongWithYou · 26/04/2011 21:18

Miniegg, an iPod touch is pretty much an iPhone without the phone - so you can access the Internet with it. I suspect yours is purely a music-playing iPod.

I think I might not bother downloading the app, at least to start with ( sorry Zzmum), as I've been finding music irritating for the last few years Grin!

But last time I got into running I just timed myself using my watch. DH had a book on training for the marathon and the method was the same as C25K so I referred to that.

minieggfannomore · 26/04/2011 21:29

Hoorah! I will tuck my iphone in my voluminous knickers. Thanks Saggar!

Mingin - my periods stopped when I was 49. Just stopped. No symptoms to speak of apart from some heavy periods just before they stopped. It was great. Now 2 years later I have hot flushes, mood swings and terrible insomnia. Oh and have developed figure of overstuffed teddy bear.

No idea how long this lasts. Not keen on it though.

nomorefrizz · 26/04/2011 21:33

This thread has really made me laugh out loud. I cant decide whether to just go for the aforementioned belt above the belly look and be done, or to join in the Couch to 2.5. I am technologically not savvy so I will ask my eldest ds to down load Cointreau's link.if I can make sense of it then I really am going to start fighting back. Got new eye lash extensions today so at least they are looking luscious-I can highly recommend if you need a bit of a lift (you lie down whilst they put them on too!)
