Is this ok for a wedding?

here

It's a posh wedding in a French chateau, all dayer and on until 3am (gulp) Lots of skeletal immaculate French women, but they wear black at weddings don't they? I thought it looked rather chic.

How would I accessorise?

Navy

patterned

headfairy · 14/04/2011 21:34

oh I can't do pink tethersend... sorry. That mint velvet one is quite nice, quite edgy for me. I can do edgy, but I'd have to see how those two different fabrics married up. Not sure about the drapey one, might not meet the knee requirements.

vintage - lovely frock, I fear it would make my boobs look ginormous.. too much frilling on the front. I thought the otherone had just enough to get away with.

They're not staunchly Catholic French folk, well I only know him and I he's never mentioned going to church.

Oh, forget the pink one, I think I was on crack when I linked to that.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2011 21:47

Pink is hideous! Love the navy Mint Velvet one on-screen but they can be disappointing irl so you'd need to try it on.

The one in the OP is cute enough as a day-dress but maybe a wee bit 'Greek widow' for a wedding.

supergreenuk · 14/04/2011 21:51

Gorgeous but dress it up with shoes and bag and maybe a fascinator in a bright colour.

DarkSkies · 14/04/2011 22:17

Any good? it's navy but please ignore gurning model

headfairy · 14/04/2011 23:03

oooh darkskies, I like that. I like neckline particularly. Hmmm might have to pop in to Debenhams tomorrow.

DarkSkies · 14/04/2011 23:13

Don't know how tall you are.... but there is a normal version and a petite version.
I am hourglass shape, large of nork, but it looked nice - petite height though. (was just on my knees)

DarkSkies · 14/04/2011 23:18

I have also been looking at this one but I haven't tried it on yet...

I thought this purple one looked promising, but I think it may be too dark for what I'm after...

This is also lovely in rl- it is a little greener than on the website, but nice nonetheless- I struggle with wearing colours too Smile

polyhymnia · 14/04/2011 23:26

Love dress, but think black might be dodgy with very traditional French who can be very consevative. Don't really think Isabella Oliver jersey smart enough for the sort of event you describe.

varyingdegreesofdeafness · 14/04/2011 23:27

Love the black dress, would deffo wear it!

headfairy · 15/04/2011 11:15

oh my word, this is where the wedding is!

Darkskies I'm 5'10" so not petite, which might mean it will show off my hideous knees. I love the purple one, I wonder if they do that in taller sizes?

Maybe I'm dull but I just don't know what to do with pattern. I'd rather go for interesting cut than interesting pattern so I'm not sure about the other two you linked to.

muminthemiddle · 15/04/2011 11:24

I prefer vintage 's one. Think the first one is too funeral like tbh.

headfairy · 15/04/2011 11:40

Only thing is MITM is that I think there's a bit too much ruffle on there for someone who's full of chest, as I am.

OP posts:
DarkSkies · 15/04/2011 12:56

Wow- 5'10"? Envy

Maybe a maxi dress then? But no idea if they're 'in' in europe atm.

Something from LKBennett maybe?

The phaseeight dress was too long for me btw, and they had several other contenders there, including a lovely grey one!

Love the chateau...

jamaisjedors · 15/04/2011 13:03

At our wedding (admittedly not posh) everyone was very impressed by how well-dressed the English guests were (lots of bright colours).

Just to reassure you!

headfairy · 15/04/2011 15:00

darkskies couldn't find that dark blue dress in Debenhams this lunchtime. But I did find the original Phase 8 one... not in black but a really gorgeous red. I tried it on but sadly it's too short for me. I really don't have the pins to carry it off. I've put a picture on my profile for you to laugh at see :o I did try on a maxi dress, the cut was great, but blimey the pattern was all wrong for me. I'm waaaay too embarrassed to put that one on my profile!

jamais the pressure's on :o

jamaisjedors · 15/04/2011 15:05

NO!! Honestly most of the French people seemed to have dug something out of the back of their wardrobe - whereas the English/Irish had co-ordinated shoes, bags, pashminas etc.

jamaisjedors · 15/04/2011 15:06

I really like that red one on you!

headfairy · 15/04/2011 15:37

Well the English do like a good dressing up day don't they (you only have to look at Aintree last week to see how much enthusiasm they put in to it :o)

I think the colour's good, but my legs are a horror, the underskirt falls really short on me, at the back it's bum skimming, so I really can't get away with it at 41. My cellulite will never thank me for exposing it to the harsh light of day!

OP posts:
ClancyCrew · 15/04/2011 15:40

you are lovely looking but i think that dress is too frilly
i think you want PLAIN sot hat your hair does the talking

stand by

ClancyCrew · 15/04/2011 15:41

( how much are we spending)
btw think legs FINE from knee down

that red one is too....much

headfairy · 15/04/2011 15:44

nooo knees are terrible on close inspection... (thanks for the complements though :o Blush)

I would pay £150-£200 for something really lovely that wouldn't date too much.

OP posts:
TotorosOcarina · 15/04/2011 15:45

screams funeral to me.
