Can there be any worse job than being a chiropodist

coralpink · 04/04/2011 19:00

I the first time I went to the chirop I was v.nervous, and then she shaved and dremelled my feet into beautiful smoothness and I saw the light.

I have a problem with the bones in my feet so I walk funny so I do have hideous skin on the ball of my foot but she doesn't even bat an eyelid. I go every 8 weeks for shaving and dremelling and general foot sorting.

AND THEN she paints them with OPI and its amazing

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/04/2011 19:02

The Body Shop have got a new Hemp Heel Balm. Tis very good, just doesn't smell so great.

No matter how bad you think your feet are, Chiropodists have seen worse. When my Chiropodist was training they had homeless people attending the clinics (willing guinea pigs I should imagine). There was a particular patient he remembered because when he took off the patients sock one of his toes came with it Shock. He also saw a lot of gangrene, so I would say that a bit of hard skin is nothing to them!

bellavita · 04/04/2011 19:03

But why do you let your feet get like this in the first place?

Surely a bit of a scrub every morning before the shower/bath is better than going all hell for leather just before the sun comes out?

Lolol at toe

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/04/2011 19:11

Tis a good story isn't it?! I went to see him and apologised about my manky infected ingrown toenail, and he was like 'that's nothing, when I was training ..........'

I think dremel is like a low quality power tool - probably made by JML or some such.

I am OVER OPI, Jessica varnish and products are the way to go imo.

noddyholder · 04/04/2011 19:12

Is dremel a sander like for worktops Shock What sort of feet do you lot have?

MikeRotch · 04/04/2011 19:14

Lol at the toe. Still.

Awaiting the delivery of my new instrument of torture as recommended by the Crotchy one or should that be Crochety one Wink. Will report back on my bleeding stumps when I have mastered the use of it.

jamaisjedors · 04/04/2011 19:22

Deffo no nail painting when I went either Envy.

bella: I have v. dry skin anyway (eczema too) and so my feet do get hard dry skin on them - but they are not anywhere first on my list of beauty "things to do".

It's a lot easier to go once a year and get it all sorted than to be scrubbing and creaming (?!) my feet every morning/night.

In the same way, yes I COULD pluck my own eyebrows and fiddle about with it every couple of days, but I PREFER to go every three weeks for five minutes of torture an appointment to get them done.

anonamater · 04/04/2011 19:29

I have a Black and Decker mini-sander, do you think that would do the job? I usually set to with a razor blade but my back's gone.... too ashamed to go to the shiro's :(

JulesJules · 04/04/2011 19:30

Oh that toe-coming-off story reminds me of a few things that happened when I was a student nurse, back in the olden days...

cornsilkily · 04/04/2011 19:36

Noddy what do you do with the asprin?

JulesJules · 04/04/2011 19:40

Yes, the aspirin

Do you plant it in the garden under a full moon and then run widdershins round the old oak tree?

noddyholder · 04/04/2011 19:47

No you make it into a paste put it on feet in plastic bags and wrapped in towels for n hour and hey presto soft feet!

coralpink · 04/04/2011 19:53

Dremels are standard chirop kit - seeeeeeee - www.myfootcaresupplies.com/search.asp?departmentID=37

I have foot problems which means I put pressure on strange parts of my feet - no amount of pumicing in the morning will sort it.

Rest of me is beaut obv, feet just weird.

Chriops have seen EVERYTHING, mine confessed last time that she looks forward to the young people because we are not scaly/cheesy. This gives me hope.

MayorNaze · 04/04/2011 20:05

WHY would you want to be a chiropodist?

WHY?

i am dreading the day when dd2s beautiful little chubby feet turn into hooves. already clipping dd1's toenails makes me want to barf and she is only 8 - WHY would you want to file and poke and massage and clip and scrape and all manner of bleughtastic things to the feet of STRANGERS????

Shock
MikeRotch · 04/04/2011 20:06

iPhoneDrone · 04/04/2011 20:14

I have lovely feet

My nails are something else though Sad

I remember my mum actually RECOILING when I was a child and saying 'um I think you've inherited your dads feet'

They are weird and grow curled up Blush I have to cut them so small so people don't run screaming. I hate having them out in summer. There is always someone who says 'oo haven't you got weird toenails' and then everyone crowds round for a good stare.

I doubt a chiropodist could do anything for them

WillieWaggledagger · 04/04/2011 20:14

some people like that sort of thing. the same sort who like squeezing OTHER PEOPLE'S spots I expect freaky weirdos

pointydog · 04/04/2011 20:18

I'll be digging out the flexitol soon. It worked a dream last year.
