Went into River Island today (because I saw they had a 3-10 years section) and there, in front of me, was a big sign saying CHELSEA GIRL.

And there was the same logo with the girl with curly hair looking downwards (like sort of coy Dr White's advert).

I was transported back to my youth going round Chelsea Girl on a Saturday with my mum... I actually had teary eyes. The shop girls must have wondered who this mad old bat was who was sullying their trendy emporium.

SandStorm · 01/04/2011 17:58

I hated Chelsea Girl cos that's where all the trendy girls went and I wasn't one of them :(

gregssausageroll · 01/04/2011 18:01

I never did Chelsea Girl I don't think. What was the teen section of etam called?

Sariska · 01/04/2011 18:04

Snob.

Teen section of Etam, that is.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/04/2011 18:05

Aah - yes, I braved CG a few times, was mainly wishful thinking as I never had money to buy anything from the trendy shops.

I remember Clockhouse at C&A as well.

Pagwatch · 01/04/2011 18:06

I had a saturday job in Chelsea Girl. I was very popular with "friends" wanting to use my staff discount.

Also remember Clockhouse and Tammy Girl in Etam (I think its now in BhS ?)

I never shopped in these places until I earnt my own money though - it was always Bewise, Changes or Peacocks (which wasn't remotely trendy then)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/04/2011 18:14

I wasn't allowed to shop in Chelsea Girl as my mam said it was poor quality Sad

AintMissBeehiving · 01/04/2011 18:15

I had a really minging fab batwing sweater from Clockhouse.

bigTillyMint · 01/04/2011 18:54

Tammy is now in BHS - got DD a nice little bikini in there!

MissRead · 01/04/2011 19:01

I was really hoping this would be about something I couldn't remember but sadly I remember Chelsea Girl all too well - I really am old! My Mum wasn't keen on it either but I did escape into the store occasionally - one particular jacket I got there stands out in my memory as having been especially hideous, it was turquoise jersey with patch pockets and big shoulders. Think I may also have had a bright yellow one. I'd be very surprised if there weren't matching plastic shoes/belt/beads/bangles/earrings as well. Lovely!

TheVisitor · 01/04/2011 19:04

Yay!!!!!!! I loved Chelsea Girl. Grin

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/04/2011 19:06

I loved Chelsea Girl too... Can't imagine they'll be reviving the white stilettos I bought there though Blush

foundwanting · 01/04/2011 19:08

My mum wouldn't even go in Chelsea Girl. It was 'common'. Sad

mrsravelstein · 01/04/2011 19:09

piratecat · 01/04/2011 19:11

got my oversize' Relax 'tshirt girl, it was £12, a bloody fortune back then!

I used to get a few bits in Clockhouse in C&A in Lewisham up til when it closed in late 90's.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/04/2011 19:12

I used to spend whole Saturday mornings in Chelsea Girl. Ours was pretty dark inside iirc and had communal changing rooms.

I loved the fact they did mid/odd size jeans; size, 9, 11 etc

Takver · 01/04/2011 19:13

I had a batwing sweater from Clockhouse too.

But a cheap-off-the-market 'I don't give a f* what frankie says' tshirt Grin

NettoSuperstar · 01/04/2011 19:16

Last thing I remember from CG was a khaki jeans-style mini skirt, not a million miles from the denim pelmets the girls wear today. It had a split up the front seam [blush. Bought it when I was 19, so it must have been almost in its last throes.
Wore it with a khaki and white striped t-shirt and canvas ballets.
Plus ca change!
< how do you do those squiggly cs? >

Mirage · 01/04/2011 19:50

I bought some ribbed leggings with little zips in the ankles in Chelsea Girl, back in 1986.I worked opposite and used to go in a lot. Also worked opposite C&A too and had some ski pants [shudder] from there.
