OK I have wide feet -but I am not a granny FFS!

I want nice shoes but I have always had wide feet - I like to think I have a better grip on the earth than most people!

I hate shoe shopping - lots of lovely shoes are off limits to me, I find the whole experience frankly embarassing.

Evans are ok for wide shoes but tbh, the shoes often look a bit weird.

M&S footglove wide fitting do not even warrant a mention - I hate you, you M&S designers, for assuming we are all old grannies.

Never had much joy with New Look either - too many heels - I have a 2 and 4 year old and go to the park a lot!

Yes I am ranting, but I have had a miserable shopping trip.

Have tried online shopping but it is so much better to try on.

Anyone found any high street makes that are more wider fitting.

I have been buying some spring skirts and I need some shoes so I can wear them..

I have the same annoying problem. I only take a size 3 which makes things doubly difficult! I usually get my shoes from Clarks. You can look through the "wide fit" section on the Clarks website and then have up to 3 pairs (I think?) sent to your local shop where you can try them all on and just buy whichever ones you like. Much easier than going to the shop and picking out the ones you like only to be told they only start at a size 5 / aren't available in a wide fitting!

omletta · 06/03/2011 15:13

twoboots how do you stretch shoes in the freezer? I've tried wet newspaper, but it doesnt seem to work very well.

Mamaz0n · 06/03/2011 15:20

fill a water proof bag with water. place the bag inside the shoe and fill it.
then put shoe with bag in the freezer.
As the water freezes it will expand and therefore strecth the shoe.

omletta · 06/03/2011 15:34

Wow thanks MamazOn I'll try that.

madammecholet · 06/03/2011 15:44

I've bought Duo shoes, really good quality and not like something your gran would wear..

lotty5 · 06/03/2011 15:52

I have the same problem, large and wide feet, have bought 2 paitrs of shoes from Hotter, steered clear of granny styles, - Penny, works well with dresses and skirts, also have arch supports, bought from the shop in Bromley, found width could vary

brimfull · 06/03/2011 16:01

sorry those hotter shoes you linked to are vile
they are very very very grannyish

upthehill · 06/03/2011 17:11

Lol - yes I thought they might be vile but you know sometimes...

Interesting about the German v's Italian last.

We do have a Duo shop in town and I am going in on Saturday, so it might be worth a try, the website seems to have a lot of ballet pumps though which I can find difficult.

Good tip about ordering in shoes to Clarks, I always phone customer services to check if the once I want for the kids are in store so that makes sense..

I am happy to pay £50+ if it means comfy feet!

What about these http://www.gaborshoes.co.uk/womens-c1/shoes-c2/gabor-magic-leather-casual-shoe-22626-p6938 gabor ones in gold.

I have a few of the rubber soled Clark type ones already - looking for something smarter with skirts. Wear a lot of cream (and am blonde) so thought gold would be good.

sorry gabor

Red or Dead come up pretty wide but depends on the style.

BoffinMum · 06/03/2011 17:50

You'll have to keep an eye on sale stock with the brands I named as they can easily try to get £100 out of you. But bargains are to be had if patient.

Monty27 · 06/03/2011 17:54

Haven't read the whole thread but if someone else hasn't said it, Next do wide fitting, they do some quite nice shoes.

Crystalglass - didn't know anyone else had hooves like mine. Are Evans really wider than Fit Flops?

crystalglasses · 06/03/2011 23:48

I've tried to ease my feet into fitflops but no luck. Maybe they do them in wider fittings. I've thought of trying on the mens ones but feel too embarrassed. But yes, Evans definitely do wider that fitflops, in my experience.

upthehill · 07/03/2011 08:06

Fitfops are too narrow for me too - thought I was the only freak Grin

I am a freak too upthehill. Off to try the mens. clop...clop.....
(slow shire horse gait)

MistyValley · 07/03/2011 12:28

Yes Fitflops could do with having a bit more flexibility re sizing - I find them (just about) wide enough, but can't wear them as the straps are too tight across the top of the foot.

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2011 13:15

I'm not feeling so bad about my recent K Shoes purchase now.

At least they weren't Hotter. Grin

caffeineaddict · 07/03/2011 13:25

But maybe a pair of Hotters could work in a vintage retro ironic chic kind of way?

another vote for Next wide range, if you don't want to pay postage or for catalogue order them online and get them delivered for free to the shop. Order lots to try on (in shop if you like!) then return them there and then if they don't fit.
I have massively wide feet. I tend to live in Papillion (offshoot of Birkis) and Next for going out

higgle · 07/03/2011 17:57

These Hotter ones www.hottershoes.com/en/Occasions/Daywear/42972_hepburn are very like Camper Rachel shoes and okish. There were two styles in footglove in M&S last week that were nice enough not to be embarassing too. My feet are just very nobbly and protest a lot if there are any sticky in bits etc and hurt lots if the shoes are not flexible and made of nice soft leather. I find Clarks usually have something for me, Ecco are good ( esp. boots) and if I want heels the M&S styles with "Insolia" are comfortable.

upthehill · 07/03/2011 18:23

Seem to be a lot of votes for Next what about these Next pumps

I am seriously beginning to doubt my taste in shoes has gone after years of buying what fits not what i like!
