OK I have wide feet -but I am not a granny FFS!

I want nice shoes but I have always had wide feet - I like to think I have a better grip on the earth than most people!

I hate shoe shopping - lots of lovely shoes are off limits to me, I find the whole experience frankly embarassing.

Evans are ok for wide shoes but tbh, the shoes often look a bit weird.

M&S footglove wide fitting do not even warrant a mention - I hate you, you M&S designers, for assuming we are all old grannies.

Never had much joy with New Look either - too many heels - I have a 2 and 4 year old and go to the park a lot!

Yes I am ranting, but I have had a miserable shopping trip.

Have tried online shopping but it is so much better to try on.

Anyone found any high street makes that are more wider fitting.

I have been buying some spring skirts and I need some shoes so I can wear them..

I wonder if Next shoes are wide enough for me. I'm pretty defeatist about this and hate buying shoes as my feet usually start aching as soon as I've got them home. I tend to go mback and buy a second pair of any shoes that are comfortable.

CointreauVersial · 07/03/2011 18:32

The Next shoes may be wide, but just like every other ballerina shoe in every shop I find they are cut too low on the toes and around the side, so the edge of the shoe is right on the old-lady bunions! Rubs horrendously and distorts the shoe.

I realise it's my fault for having hideous feet...

HouseOfBamboo · 07/03/2011 18:51

God I hate ballerina flats, I wish the shrivelled little thin-soled miseries would go out of fashion. To be replaced by something gorgeous, thick-soled and strappy (but not gladiators, ta).

UPDATE:

I got some shoes!!

Gabor ones - thanks for the heads up on that. I got them in John Lewis these ones in grey/silver.

I am not taking them back even if you say you all hate them! They are comfy, flat, go with jeans, cropped trousers and are dressy enough for skirts. I got the grey and they have a bit of a sheen to them and to actually look nice and smart. They are not granny in real life but don't photo well on the JL website.

I was lovely to try on some nice quality shoes that fit. Don't care how much they cost - I'm going back to get some more!

How about DC trainers, they are wide and definitely not grannyish

crystalglasses · 23/03/2011 12:40

They look nice, upthehill. I think I'll try some on. i like the ballet style ones best. I've come to the conclusion it's always best to buy a second pair of shoes you find comfy. Nothing worse than shoes falling apart and having to trek round the shops looking. Very depressing.

CuppaTeaJanice · 23/03/2011 13:03

At least companies make extra wide shoes Envy, grannyish or not.

Try having AA width feet. I have one pair of sandals, which I found in an outlet shop as they were obviously mis-sized and wouldn't fit normal people. They are nearly ten years old now and I need some new ones. Can't find any to fit.

schroeder · 23/03/2011 13:24

I wear Keen shoes, I get them online, but you can sometimes find them in cotswolds or blacks they are really comfy and not grannyish, I do have to go up 1/2 a size though.
I would second skechers too, they have a good width to them and have young styles.
The other place I look and sometimes find a bargain is TKmaxx . you can find hotter and camper etc. greatly reduced, hit and miss I know, but I cannot justify spending ££'s on my own shoes.

fedupandfifty · 23/03/2011 13:26

Have you tried Shoe Tailor?

Ephiny · 23/03/2011 13:43

I was looking at M&S shoes recently, and they do a 'Contemporary Footglove' range now which are a bit less granny-ish than the traditional ones! Still quite sensible-looking though...

crystalglasses · 23/03/2011 17:17

M&S wide fitting shoes aren't wide enough for me unless I go up a size or two and then they look like boats on my feet.

hjaerup · 15/06/2011 21:50

I can recommend a new website with links to online shops selling wide shoes (among other categories). The address is www.sizes4you.com.

mangomousse · 15/06/2011 21:56

I have really wide feet and get great shoes, including leather ballet pumps, from Simply Be on line. They go up to EEE fitting and are very competitively priced too.

Ixia · 15/06/2011 22:33

I'm now going to try putting all those shoes that I'd bought hoping they'd stretch, in the freezer :) fingers crossed.....
