please help, i've ruined my sister's scarf and need to replace it

she dropped it outside my house and went home without it. i retrieved it from a puddle and washed it for her. it would seem i wasn't careful enough, scarf felted and sister now very annoyed

So, I am now trying to replace it for her but all i know is that she got it from a shop in King's Road, London. Its mostly green. It has been double knitted so the design is different on each side. On the front there are small diamonds in greens and black. On the back there are larger diamonds in the same colours

Knowing my sister it was expensive Hmm

Please help, I've tried searching myself but can't find anything like it

ps i know this is the wrong section but if anyone happens to find a pattern to knit one then that would be great too!

I would tell your sister that SHE was the careless one, dropping her scarf in a puddle and going home without it. You were trying to help!

I would apologise and give her the scarf back. Accidents happen - if you hadn't picked it up, someone else would and she would have lost the scarf.

i know, i have apologised and given it back to her. She was careless but it was my mistake so i want to rectify it

I think you are a very nice sister to have retrieved it and washed it for her in the first place and agree with Celia.

How about just buying her a new scarf instead of trying to replace this one and if she really wants another she will know where she got it from and can get it herself....

Have you tried using the shopstyle.co.uk website to look for same/similar. I find it really good when Im searching for something quite specific?

I have asked where she got it from but she doesn't know the name of the shop, only that its in King's Road

I'm quite surprised at the general consensus on here, I ruined her scarf, a scarf that she obviously really liked

I'd tell her to bugger off! You accidentally ruined her scarf by trying to do her a favour. It's just a scarf -- if it were mine I'd thank you for trying and tell you not to give it a second's more thought.

If I'd ruined it I'd probably buy her a different but equally nice one, but I'd be far less inclined to do so if she'd been obviously annoyed that I'd ruined her precious scarf in the first place. I'd probably buy her a replacement and then set fire to it in her garden.

It doesn't have a label on it to tell you where she got it? Because if it was Kings Road, it may well be from Brora. Even if it's not, why not take advantage of their sale and buy her a replacement from there they've got some lovely ones at good prices

Although I agree with everyone else, I'm afraid I think your sister's being a bit of a cow.

I think she's being a bit of a mardy mare as well! And if it is her favourite scarf and she spent so much on it why doesn't she know which shop she bought it from?

If you really feel the need to replace it why not give her some vouchers for a shop that she likes?

Ok, start by asking her which end of the Kings Road she bought it from - Peter Jones end?

sounds like a brora scarf to me, which is why she was pissed off. she's not fully entitled to feel that way, but can understand it.

go to www.ravelry.com and look for scarf patterns. i reckon you'll find something close to what you're looking for. there are 1 000 000 knitters and designers on there.

If it weren't for you she wouldn't have it at all. Buy her a nice scarf if it makes you feel better, but don't waste valuable life finding the exact replacement.

But Warty, if it was Brora wouldn't she have cried "Oh no, not my brora scarf!"? Surely she would have known that brand - after all it's highly desirable.

I'm inclined to think she's being a tad unreasonable too.

If she hadn't dropped the thing in the first place it wouldn't have happened - perhaps it wasn't so precious to her (or she was pissed!)

And, if you hadn't found it in the puddle she would be none the wiser.

Suggest she sods off and gets a bloody grip. She's no worse off than if you hadn't found it. If she won't accept your apology without a brand new scarf she's being a bit precious. She's your sister ffs, she's family, not your blooody boss!

i love it how everyone seems to think she's a bitch Hmm

she's not, she's my lovely sister. she was only at my house because she came round to babysit my two dcs. and no, she wasn't drunk when she left. she does alot for me, loves her niece and nephew and was understandably annoyed at me ruining her scarf. She has since apologised about her initial reaction (after i started this thread so i'm not drip feeding) At no point did I, or she, say she wasn't going to accept my apology without a new scarf

squeaver not weird no. i imagine that its important to some people but not to others. i'm like my sister, i couldn't tell you where I bought half my clothes and I don't have many so its not that i've got hundreds to remember!

looking at that site, it may well have been a brora one, they do seem a similar style

i'm quite amazed at the vitriol being used towards my sister. I'm sure you'd all take it very calmly if i'd done a similar thing to you Hmm
