Sad for you everything

hellsbelles · 25/01/2011 09:23

just dropping in quickly. Zembo so glad to hear you have an answer but sorry that you are having so much pain.

HF - that must have been terrifying. A close colleague of ours had the same (I wasn't there though) and I have to say the effects are devastating. I do hope your colleague has a more complete recovery.

Today I am dressed as 40 year old! A day full of meetings so actually embracing my age for proper impact. White shirt, grey a-line skirt and cashmere cardigan belted over the top. Plus that 'friend' of the older woman - a 'statement' necklace. I have put on heels as well. I will take no prisoners today.

OllieWollieWoo · 25/01/2011 09:45

Zembo - hope you are in less pain now. Sounded horrible but like you, v glad its not gynae related.
Fritzi really feel for you. From what you have said before, it sounds difficult for your DH to switch off from his job. Do you and DH get to spend time together on a regular basis eg a night out once a month? Know this has helped DH and I catch up with whats going on on our lives (him - work, me - wanting an extension!)
Roman hope the teacher can shed some light onto DS1's situation.

Tracey thought the stationary was a lovely gesture from your DH. (DS1 has a hole punch on his wish list!)
MrsJuan sound advice re ignoring Mr Dukan's emails! Zumba was hard work last night - lots of leg bending!
Looby I love peg legs too but they make my bum look enormous. Would like some smart black trousers but hate actually shopping for them so never end up with any.
Hf - hope your colleague is ok. How awful.

Raining here so DS2 and I are having a play-doh session.

notyummy · 25/01/2011 09:48

Pickled-Shrivenham is where the Joint (Armed) Services Staff College is based. Basically officers from the armed forces at various ranks go there for professional development training. DH is there for 10 months on a pretty intensive course at the moment.

Just read that back to check it doesn't give too much away about either military or me, but I think everything there is in public domain websites already!

Hells- your outfit sounds great. I am in second interview suit- black trouser suit with different silk blouse to yesterday. In train to London. A lot more nervous about this interview as it is more of am unknown quantity- I dont know much about the job or the organisation!!

pickledsiblings · 25/01/2011 10:05

Thanks for explaining NY, have Googled and it's a whole other 'world' that I have never even thought about Blush. Hope your day goes well.

Yes Hells, I like the sound of your 'don't mess with me' outfit. I also have grey a-line skirt that serves similar purpose.

Romanholiday · 25/01/2011 10:08

Have taken flying fall in the park. Am pondering need for x-ray: how do you know whether or not medical intervention is required? Walking and bending forward both quite painful, as is moving my left leg generally. I think it's worth a doctor taking a look probably.

notyummy · 25/01/2011 10:11

Ouch! See a doctor ^Roma. Hope it is nothing serious.

traceybath · 25/01/2011 11:43

Roma - definitely see a Dr and ouch!

Fleecy - was Shock at silent witness.

LTEC - like the t you bought.

OWW - DS1 has a hole punch and loves it!

macmama · 25/01/2011 11:44

Bonsoir love your diet tips I totally agree with that approach!

My mum actually is/was obsessed with weight and all of my family have it to some degree (obsession with being on the slim side of normal). My family are a bit ?fattist? (if thats a term that can be used?!). I have had hang ups about being fat in the past but never to the point of being obsessive with eating.

I do genuinely believe in healthy eating though and I think that is the key for me.

I do eat cake on occasion but only the dairy free variety! As said before once I stop BFIng it remains to be seen how "relaxed" I am (or not!). I don't think I will ever go back to eating dairy in any large quantities though.

roma thats awful! Hope the teacher can offer some help. Gosh school is full of drama, isn?t it, nothing changes. I have some understanding now of how it was for my mum watching us all negotiate our way through the mire of childhood ?she used to get so upset and aggrieved on our behalves... perfectly understandable! Hope you recover from fall - sounds nasty!

zembo glad you have got to bottom of pain, take it easy!

ItsNotUnusual · 25/01/2011 12:18

Lovin' the Bonsoir Let Us Eat Cake diet tips :o I'm also interested in perceptions of body image. I don't think there was ever a point at which I let myself go - I was already there but as I hurtle towards 40, I finally feel a need to take myself in hand. My main motivation was health and to look younger but I have dropped from a size 18 to a 14 in the last 4 months and objectively I can see I look heaps better but when I look in the mirror I feel worse about myself than I used to! Now I look and yearn to be a size 10 which was never my motivation in the first place.

Which puts me in a funny place clothes wise. I don't want to spend £££ in this size but cannot spend any more time in grotty clothes. It takes as much time to shop for nice clothes as rubbish ones.

Anyway - enough me me me - is this a nice start to a new wardrobe?

How did I miss Burns day?

I love haggis Grin

blossoming · 25/01/2011 13:00

Hi everyone! Another Welsh speaker it'snotunusual. Oh I see what you've done now, Tom Jones!
Lovely DH has helped with my CV. Says to leave out hobbies though as they are a source of hilarity for interviewers. He interviews plenty, do I'll take his word for it!
Off to teach in my new trousers. Love new clothes. No, really!!

hatcam · 25/01/2011 13:12

Usually I just lurk but I need some advice and think it's definitely a question for the wise and avid! I have found a beautiful Joseph shearling jacket in black, perfect condition in my local posho second hand dress shop. £200. Would it be a wise purchase, will I really get wear out of it? It is beautiful...

Romanholiday · 25/01/2011 13:13

Am back from A&E, no fracture. Was knocked flying by a pesky dog (mine): flew up in air and landed flat on back on a stony path.

Good luck to all interviewees. I would only put hobbies in a CV if they're impressive (pro-level sports; single-handed round-the-world yachting or whatever) so that they make you stand out from the crowd. Or some kind of volunteering that's specific and you've been doing seriously for ages.

My Ash boots came. I don't like them much - will return.

Romanholiday · 25/01/2011 13:14

hatcam yes, buy it! You will love it for ever

FritziGreenEyes · 25/01/2011 13:32

I'm touched about your wise words about relationships and will see if regular night out with DH will make a difference.

Hf what a shock that must have been. Hope your colleague will recover quickly.

Hatcam, yes yes to Joseph shearling! If you don't like it , I'll take it off your hands.

Zembo hope you feel better today. Must be really painful. I had stones in my gall bladder and the pain was excruciating. Took ages to find a doctor who worked out what it was. Most of them thought I was wildly exaggerating about a bit of stomach pain, pah. Do you need any form of treatment?

Roma ouch, glad nothing is broken ((fritzi unpacks aircast from package to Belgium))

DolceeBanana · 25/01/2011 13:38

Oh Roma...ooh, your story about the boys being nasty to your DS made me fume....! Really awful. Yes, good advice about speaking to the teachers....hope you get it sorted soon.

Hope you are not in too much pain.

Zembo -oh that sounds nasty too. Hopefully you are getting over it now. Take care of you!

Bloss- like your links, particularly the dress!!! V nice. And yes, after years of interviewing and reading CVs I would say dh is right.....

Fritzi - sounds like a rough patch, and dh seemed v sweet. Sometimes, when there seems to be a bit of an impasse it just takes one of you to turn the cheek and get on with it. Despite past hurts. Shower him with your obvious (to me) positive vibes and energy...maybe he's stuck in a rut. Book a babysitter and do something fun together...

Hells- you are so funny! Statement necklace!
I bet you are a force to be reckoned with today lady!!!!

Well baby and I are very matchy, matchy today...she in dark grey needlecord dress raspberry stripe top (nudges Bloss), and I in charcoal tweed skirt, raspberry polo neck and grey leopard scarf...oh and dark grey opaques....

Voice returning sloooooowly...dh has been ringing to see how I am and I've only been able to squeak...Grin

hatcam....yes, yes, yes! And welcome!

OP posts:
macmama · 25/01/2011 13:40

Thanks for Ash boot feedback Roma glad I didn?t break my no spending rule for them. Glad you are ok.

Yes to Joseph shearling if its in good condition and you love it 100% ? I love Joseph!

Fritzi agree with all advice. I know you are worried but I would try not to be ? all long term relationships have ups and downs, highs and lows when you lose your way and your sense of each other darkens ... but if you both know inside (and have faith)that you are with the right person then you will always find your way again. IME its the bad times that make you appreciate the good ? just keep talking and communicating and don?t be afraid of conflict ? it is still communication and is sometimes the best way to resolve things IMO. Hope you are feeling happier soon.

macmama · 25/01/2011 13:41

Dolcee love the sound of how you and your DD are looking today!!!
