Joggers and rugby shirt I expect. DS will probably wear his pyjamas.

NorbertDentressAngelOnTheTree · 13/12/2010 09:47

I really don't get this 'wearing something special for Xmas Day' thing.

I will be with DP, DC and PIL so why do I need to dress up?

We're not going anywhere, we'll have a lovely day opening presents, eating, drinking, playing games with the DC etc.

I really don't feel the need to wear a sparkly jumper and flashing bauble earrings in order to complete the day Wink

CMOTdibbler · 13/12/2010 09:52

Exactly Norbert - our neighbours get dressed up in full black tie and long dress ! Seems totally nuts to me. Last year I spent the whole day in my pyjamas as we didn't have anyone round, and I never get the chance to just slob around all day normally

tartiflette · 13/12/2010 09:52

I'm torn. We always used to get a nice new outfit when we were younger (nothing especially OTT). Last year I was pregnant and felt awful so just wore massive tent.
This year I'm hosting for big family and have little babies so it's going to have to be leggings-based (comfort). But I would like to look good, probably minus the flashing bauble earrings.....

I shall be wearing a blue velvet tunic (Toast), black leggings (Top Shop) and bronze ballet pumps (Repetto....only I hope I can salvage them as just came home from school run to find one of them in dog's basket Angry ). Shall be accessorising with long string of pearls and a funky pendant, together with fab chunk cocktail ring.

How about you, Tartiflette?

tartiflette · 13/12/2010 09:54

Black tie!!

Yes can definitely see the appeal of pjs if I had no one coming.

Doesn't a long dress get in the way when you're climbing over discarded boxes, building Lego/Playmobil sets , thrashing someone at Wii tennis or fighting someone for the last After Eight in the box?

maltesers · 13/12/2010 09:55

Dont know yet. . .just fairly casual. . .as its only me , my Dp and my parents . . .3 kids are all away at their dads on xmas day .Xmas Sad

tulpe · 13/12/2010 09:56

Agree black tie way OTT. Although DH and I do black tie on NYE even if we are at home just the two of us! It's a silly tradition we started when DS1 was tiny and we couldn't be bothered with going out but wanted to make an effort. So we get all dressed up and have a fab candlelit meal for two.

tiredemma · 13/12/2010 09:57

Salopettes, goggles, helmet...

tartiflette · 13/12/2010 09:57

ooops x posts there Tulpe, did not mean to imply I would be sporting black tie...

Am planning something suspiciously similar to yours, although nature of tunic is yet to be confirmed and pearls are v chunky and short. Will have a look round today I think. Ballet pumps and leggings definitely.

tiredmomma am v jealous - are you off to the slopes or are you simply snowed in? :)

tulpe · 13/12/2010 09:59

Tartiflette - tunic v good dress for christmas day. Allows one to look stylish, pulverise DCs at Mario Galaxy and eat your way through the day :o

Dexterrocks · 13/12/2010 10:00

I will be wearing my best jeans and a long sleeved dress/tunic top with knee length black leather boots, silver necklace and pandora bracelet. Can still get on floor and play with kids but feel a bit smarter for the meal.

Wordsonascreen · 13/12/2010 10:00

will be at the beach for part of it so bikini tankini and cotton dress with flip flops will probably get sand everywhere so change into trusty linen shift dress and sparkly antlers [classy]

tartiflette · 13/12/2010 10:03

Dexter - tunic details?! Tulpe is yours the silk velvet tunic on their website? Gorgeous if so.

Off to stay with in-laws in Morzine.

Tortington · 13/12/2010 10:06

i have recently bought a john rocha dress from BHS (classy!!) its a knee length, dusky grey effort, with zip to the front but on the side with a slight frill to go slightly over the zip

and a nice belt to accentuate the waist.

i shall be wearing that, with my new boots from joe browns.

yes i shall be wearing that to sweat my arse off in the kitchen and watch shit tv whilst dh's side of the family come round

joy

Tortington · 13/12/2010 10:07

not bhs...the other one what's it called...?

BelovedCunt · 13/12/2010 10:07

a large purple jumper dress with a lifesize appliqué sequined kitten

Tortington · 13/12/2010 10:07

debenahms - thats it

BelovedCunt · 13/12/2010 10:07

debenhams custy

MaeMobley · 13/12/2010 10:07

Probably black linen trousers, polo shirt and Birkenstocks.

But we don't do Xmas (Jewish) and we will be in Florida.

tulpe · 13/12/2010 10:09

Tartiflette yes it is the silk velvet one - I have it in navy. I bought mine 2 years ago but the design is the same.

tiredmamma - oooh, we are thinking of Morzine for skiing this season. FiL lives in Thollon Les Memises which is an hours' drive from there so we were thinking we could combine the two. We skiied last year from Boxing Day to NY Day and it was fab :) Have lots of fun and vin chaud :)

FoundWanting · 13/12/2010 10:21

Cobalt blue and bronze slinky maxi dress with very high but very comfortable tan boots.

Dress is super glam but comfortable and was almost no money so I won't mind the inevitable spills and slashes which will happen in the kitchen.

Hoping to get some flash ear-rings from FC to finish the look.
