After years of consideration i have decided to go for it.I have v good skin apart from forehead which are caused by constant squinting over the years when i don't wear my glasses.Botox doc I met at friends said i was ideal candidate as if your face is just wrinkly everywhere it prob needs something more like fillers but mine is just one area and caused be repetitive movement. What i really want to know is does it hurt and any disasters anyone?

I also only have one vertical frown line and have thought of botox as I am otherwise wrinkle free but am worried about the long term effects of injecting poison into your face.
But reading this, it sounds like the vertical lines don't respond very well to it so will probably stick with my diy version - a fringe Grin

itmustbewineoclock · 01/12/2010 10:56

janin you probably had dysport which is an isomer of botox. You need to go back and ask for botox if you want to give it another go. I had dysport with no effect and botox with good effect - my sister the same. Good luck.

Noddyholder, I had it done a week ago on saturday, you'll love it, they say it takes 5 - 7 days for you to see the effects, but I started seeing them much sooner.

The most common side effect i've heard about is headaches, this has never happened to me, i've had botox on and off for a few years now.

They should talk all that through with you at your appointment though.

Good Luck !

noddyholder · 01/12/2010 13:15

Thanks that is reassuring I know I will like the effect hope I can afford to maintain iy!

noddyholder I have never had any side effects either. Good luck for monday - it's brilliant stuff

TattyDevine · 01/12/2010 14:14

I love my botox. I am due a session but will wait till after Christmas, I'm going to let it really wear off properly this time.

My vertical lines come back after about 6 weeks, but slowly, and still less than they would be. Its really hard to treat them. Celebs probably just have it topped up every few weeks but us mere mortals find it hard to justify going more than 3 or 4 times a year.

For forehead crinkle - the horizontal pleating effect that comes from just raising your eyebrows, squinting, that kind of thing, it is absolutely brilliant. Totally erases them, you get this ultra smooth look. You can still express yourself enough not to look frozen, seriously. It does give your eyebrow a bit of a kick up at the sides because they can't inject the brow muscles or they would droop so as you make the raised eyebrow expression, your eyebrows move at the outer sides whereas the rest of your face wont let the whole brow move up so you get a subtle kick. I find this very attractive on me and its part of the appeal. I thought you could only get this from a brow lift but not the case.

I haven't told anyone in "real life" I've had it done. Not my husband, not my best friend, nobody. Ever. And nobody has ever said a word so when I hear people slagging off people who get Botox (dinner party last week, my friend went on and on about it) I giggle because they always say things like "she looks so frozen" and stuff like that. Granted, some celebs do but I honestly believe if you dont tell anyone, you wont get any grief, and nobody can make you feel "bad" about it.

Its not that it doesn't make a difference, it really does, but not in a way that would whack you over the head.

The only people who would possibly realise are those that have had it done themselves, as they'd recognise the tiny telltale signs.

noddyholder · 01/12/2010 15:15

Mine is 100% caused by wrinkling my forehead and repeatedly lifting my brows so I think its ideal The brow 'lift' is exactly what I am after!I have no other lines and really even plump skin mut this looks really odd at the top of my face even the doc said it didn't match!Like 2 faces and prob caused by not wearing my gl;asses for years (also vanity)I am silly excited!Am assuming by xmas week i will be lineless x

Botox is amazing for me. I have 4 very prominent horizontal lines on my forehead, you can see them even when Im not raising my eyebrows.
I had botox about 3 years ago and have had it since, recently a friend (doctor) has started doing it so I see him.
I have my forehead done, crows feet and frown lines, not because I have any but because it makes the forehead bit last longer.

My only recommendation would be to find a doctor or nurse to do it (i.e. someone who is profesisonally regulated) dont go to some beauty salon

noddyholder · 01/12/2010 15:19

I am going to a doctor who does cosmetic procedures only very well recommended and respected and not a beauty salon in sight!I would be scared otherwise.Mosschops and everyone else do you still look like you iygwim!

My Mom had botox yesterday.
I had no idea and can't wait to see her on Saturday, I am also hoping she is getting me some for Christmas Wink

She went to a nurse who had been recommended to her. No pain, she was thrilled with the results.

mosschops30 · 01/12/2010 15:22

noddy no one else will notice, certainly all the people Ive ever told havent noticed and I only told dh whilst I was drunk on holiday Grin and he couldnt understand the point of having something that no one noticed.
But I do it for me, because I cant bear to see the lines when I look in thr mirror.
I love having no lines Smile

noddyholder · 01/12/2010 15:30

Me too mosschops sometimes i see only the lines and they begin to look almost like animation! My frinds and dp say I look ok but this is for me before these lines were so visible I could go without make up but now even make up makes them look worse!I like you have 4 deep lines that are there even when I'm not wrinkling my brow I can't wait!

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 01/12/2010 15:31

noddyholder · 01/12/2010 17:32

Thats great have booked dr yelland at bupa! Thanks for the advice everyone

TattyDevine · 01/12/2010 17:39

You will love it Noddy. You sound like an excellent candidate for it.

I agree, go to either a doctor or an experienced dentist who has 3+ years.

Mine is a dentist and I love him so much I could eat him. Yummy anglo-indian who is so camp he should be gay but isn't. Probably.

I'd go to a "doctor" but trust me I live in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't be more pleased with the results though so I dont think he's missing anything!

TracyK · 02/12/2010 10:11

TattyD - have you ever had fillers for your verticals? I don't think I'd like to have to have botox every 6 weeks for mine ££££££££!

moragbellingham · 02/12/2010 17:49

I had a headache on the first night but was pre-warned about it. It was very mild anyway.

I'm intrigued about the Dysport as this is clostridium botulinum 500i.u. and Botox is just a different strength 100i.u. of the same drug made by another company?

hugebelly · 02/12/2010 20:13

Sorry to hijack.

moragbellingham - I've heard good things about LPSA (partic Peter Butler and Patrick Mallucci). Have you anything else done/ recommend a particular surgeon?

SmileyPeeple · 03/12/2010 09:03

I've been having bottom for about 2yrs, and love it.

I only have it for the vertical lines between my eyes as these were making me look permanently angry, and it really has refreshed my face rather than making me look dramatically younger.

I don't have nay on my horizontal frown lines or crows feet as these are all quite subtle and keeping them but getting rid of the 'i'm about to pinch the wall' look I was developing has made me look much better.

My doc also does something around my eyebrows to give them a bit of a lift, so I've lost the vertical crevices brows been lifted a bit but can still move foreheadf and still have all delicate crows feet and frown lines.

I think though this is achieved by the very experienced doctor I go too who has been doing botox for many years and is an expert nationally. The first clinic I went to I had a less experienced doctor who did get rid of the vertical trenches but I got an eye brow droop too.

New doctor more expensive but seemed to straight away know what to do to get rid of the lipnes and lift the brow whilst leaving all the subtle lines in place and full movement of the face.

I think botox can do wonders if you don't have too much ie not whole face and always leave some natural lines and if you have a doctor/nurse who really understands how to yes it.

SmileyPeeple · 03/12/2010 09:04

He he, I've been having BOTOX not bottom.
