How do you dress your kids for playing/walking in snow?

This may seem a sillly question but I've 2 dds, 6 & 3. And today they were out in snow a lot. But were freezing and had to change them each time. Eldest had on thick sock and snow shoes, trackies, 2 tops and water proof jacket with fleece. DD 3 had on similar. Do I buy ski wear (not a skiing family) in the likelihood this will be a harsh winter or go for water proof trousers and lots of layers?

Salopettes/ padded snow bibs or snow pants over leggings, turtleneck underneath sometimes with cotton vest under that (t-neck = poly-cotton mix usually, no wool); heavily padded jacket over, hat with earflaps, padded ski-type waterproof gloves or mitts. Fleece socks in snow boots, not wellies. Standard ski-ish wear really.

My dh demanded I stopped scouring the Internet for the perfect bargain in snow gear and just buy something. I'd not spoken for 2 hours .

Watching several thing on eBay & got myself a pair of salopettes £12.99. Mathanxiety you are so right re wells, dd1 has snow boots & warm feet, dd2 and I have wellies & cold feet.

Off to sports direct in Greenock for a bargain. :)

You must have a waterproof layer on the outside. Feet get very cold too, so many socks.

I bought mine these in black. At £6 each bargain for ski trousers.They wear long johns under them,thermal vest,jumper and this coat.
We also have snow boots from Decathelon,and ski socks. They were out for hours sledging on Sat and came home when exhausted.They are 3 and 6.

chivers, what colour did you get? Am after a red h&m one for DD, but can't find one anywhere...

Or any red ones out there?

8y DD went out to play this morning. She was wearing:

Jeggings
Long sleeved t shirt
Long floaty top over that
Thick socks
Wellies
Waterproof coat
Waterproof trousers
Hat
Ski type gloves

tethersjinglebellend I did get a red 6-7 for my son this morning first thing. I can see that they now only have 4-5 left whereas this mornign they had most sizes in both colours. :(

I have bought DS (2) some Olang boots for this winter, wellies are just so cold.
And the sallopettes he had in March when we went skiing still fit so those are getting some more use.

He has also got a set of thermals which I got for a real bargin from Muddy Puddles.

John Lewis is worth a look, they have salopettes and ski coats/suits.

Tethers - not cheap but have found them here red in 2-3

i took my son out today hes 3 in a pair of PJ bottoms denims over them a vest t-shirt jumper zipper then his big winter jacket 2 scarfs one inside all his clothes the other over the top of his zipper and gloves and hat with his wellies he looked like he had gained a few pounds over night but he was still nice and warm by the time we got home
i was pretty jelouse
