are sequins acceptable on a 39 year old (on a good day I could pass for 38 and a half Wink). Legs still knock knee but relatively slim.

I need a winter evening dress that is not too revealing (not too much cleavage on show) for a few work parties.

notyummy · 03/11/2010 11:21

Hells - completely acceptable!!

Still sniggering at the idea of Bunny flashing her arse to us all.... (Am so childish.)

blossoming · 03/11/2010 11:21

That's a good dress I think hells. Very different from what I imagined a Christmas sequin dress to look like. Think you should give it a go.
Alas am not active on fb.

hellsbelles · 03/11/2010 11:24

it's not really 'me' - but I've seen other people wearing similar and always think they look amazing. Plus I like being warm and assume I could wear with black opaques!

Shall try to work out how to do the personal message thingy through MN then Bloss. Haven't done it before so please bear with me.

MarshaBrady · 03/11/2010 11:28

Love the sequin dress Hells.

It's a good one.

I think that dress could be very Claudia Winkleman with opaques and sky highs hells.

OllieWollieWoo · 03/11/2010 12:56

Running in between jobs - (trip to supermarket and packing for UK trip) but I'd love a washbag too please Blossoming. Did you get the apple material as I would really luv one in that????

Had a meeting at school for all of the Class Mums - I think I understood about 20% of what was said!

OllieWollieWoo · 03/11/2010 12:58

Oooh yes, dress fab Hells and v Claudia (a v good thing!)

LetThemEatCake · 03/11/2010 13:01

bloss you are so clever!

hells I believe that sequins are very age appropriate. They reflect light, it bounces of your face and knocks years off. Plus it's a gorge dress. Buy buy buy

am slightly Shock at how many compliments today. (only nursery run and supermarket but hey) Wearing new red heels, ASOS breton, jeans and camel coat. Seems to be a winner

friends arriving soon so best crack on with cooking - enjoy your days

Thanks for the comments re lace dress - think I'll give it a miss; you can take wisdom a bit to far!

Ooi, I linked to this on another thread - el cheapo version of black sequins. Also saw one on HofF which I'll look for.

I know - might get the grey one - and may I recommend the purple or black for your good self?

< stalker? Moi? >

fel1x · 03/11/2010 13:26

OMG at my typo - am very Blush red faced
Sorry Bunny, was of course referring to your bump!!!

trying to change subject quickly.....

Love that Biba dress linked to

FritziGreenEyes · 03/11/2010 13:28

Finally half an hour peace between work and picking up DD, so will try to catch up with some links and posts. Was a bit confused when I skimmed earlier and thought cake is wearing hotpants now Grin. Of course you could cake with those legs but I'm not so sure about the lace dress. Red M&S shoes sound good though. Sorry you missed opportunity for cocktails due to tube strike.

notyummy Hope you feel better today! And bunny you too.

blossoming I'm very impressed with your WIT-style photo and Breton top collection. Eiffel tower washbag is lovely. Would definitely buy one in child's fabric for DD, and my niece, and everyone else I can think of!

plum Love the 60s furniture. Would so love to be able to find lovely furniture at auctions and ebay. Somehow we always end up at IKEA. So boring.

hells I like the dress! I have a sludge coloured leather jacket and it is one of my favourite pieces as the colour goes with almost anything. I'm the same age as you (almost) and would wear sequins.

monkeysmama Sounds like you had a good time with DH though. Better keep the coffee machine on standby today!

yangy I like the cowl neck jumper best. With the dress I'm not sure about the mixture of silk and jersey. The leggins are cotton but are supposed to look like suede? Not sure about that either sorry.

Hi fel1x!

carciofi Did you get anything at Westfield?

The thing that bugged me most about DH's friend who visited yesterday is that she is really into food, always tells us of wonderful exotic stuff she is cooking, how her kids would never eat shop bought jam because they are used to homemade etc. I decided to just forget about it. Life's too short and all that...

blossoming · 03/11/2010 13:34

I'm liking these long sleeved sequin dresses very much.
On a similar note have just been reading the 10 rules of winter dressing and have nodded wisely at a few of the comments!

ollie, was it this one or this one?

blossoming · 03/11/2010 13:37

fritzi, I'll put all my wares out on the dining table in a few weeks time, take a photo, and you can take your pick!
Re your dh's friend: good on you for letting it go.

hellsbelles · 03/11/2010 13:38

blast - I went all avid and ordered the expensive one (last few left) and now I see that WWWY has found a much cheaper version. I did have many many vouchers to discount on MW though so it almost works out at the same price (almost Wink)

Thanks for comments though - it would be great to get a little of that Winkleman style!

Cake - outfit sounds very very gorgeous.

Fritzi - life is indeed too short for exclusively home made jam.

Felix - don't apologise - well maybe to Bunny for accusing her of flashing Grin - it made me chuckle so much.

DolceeBanana · 03/11/2010 13:39

Sacked cleaner today....been hovering for ages, but last straw was (again) ignoring a couple of requests I'd specifically made this morning, realising that the silk lampshades in the sitting room actually look like they never get dusted...and, revealingly, the mail was left on the mat when I walked in, thus indicating a departure before Postman arrived....(before she was due to finish) (our Postie regular as clockwork) hmm...now the bother of finding someone new...who isn't going to want £12 per hour!

Bloss...I never buy clothes in Cornwall...so shan't miss that ! But the kitting out of a house there is something I shall relish....so that should satiate any need for a while.

Love sequins, and agree that they are no barrier to age, unless the garment is perhaps hot pants and then I would steer clear...

I've been looking for fishnet hold ups (or tights) to wear with a very simple (and potentially boring) black long sleeved shift dress but cannot find any at all...only horribly thick and ugly versions...anyone seen any good ones?

Tracey - have just started Diary Of A Provincial Lady and its very funny...I remember you read it....

WhatsWrongWithYou · 03/11/2010 13:45

But the cheaper version doesn't have the lovely drapey back Wink.

OllieWollieWoo · 03/11/2010 13:48

Blossoming - the second link - luv it! Did you buy some (insert hopeful emoticon!!)

Love the biba dress too WWYDT!

Faffing re what to take to wear on my trip to London - is it too cold for ballet pumps at the mo ( as they are v comfy and easy to get on/off for changing room purposes)?.
