Boden - what's it all about?

Before I joined Mumsnet I never even had heard of Boden ( Grin or Blush, not sure which emotion is appropriate, a bit of both I guess...Smile)

I am wondering what the fascination with Boden is all about.
Have to admit I still have not looked at their site or catalogue but is it worth it?
Are they such great value for money or trendsetting or ... just the thing to do on Mumsnet?

Well chucking them away and buying more will cost more than one good quality top that lasts umpteen children - and is enviromentally ruinous. I can't afford to buy everything new from Boden - but the stuff on ebay is amazing.

I tried it and liked it. It is reasonable quality more "structured" clothing (ie similar in style and manufacturing to the more pricy stuff like Frank Mason or Hobbs) which I find holds all my wobbly bits in suits me more than the unstructured, layered hippy-chick stuff that I wore before I had the children :)

oh i love a"fun" Boden skirt particularly get complimented on the Craft Flower one this Autumn and i love a dotty dress

sfxmum · 26/10/2010 13:01

children's clothes are great and last forever

big people knits and coast last well too and I like the summer skirts
it is just a shop

sfxmum · 26/10/2010 13:01

coats not coasts

What I like about Boden is that the clothes aren't obviously trendy but are still 'fashionable' and therefore you can keep wearing (and mixing with other stuff) without feeling like you are last years model. There is a kind of timeless feel (but not middle aged!) to their clothes.

Boden is not cutting edge fashion but then they don't claim to be!

vintage4 · 26/10/2010 13:04

i always feel confident when i am wearing Boden. Wrap. Hobbs clothes more so that cheaper makes and i buy most of them from charity shops

notinmypocket · 26/10/2010 13:08

Thanks for helping and clearing up the Boden mystery for me.

I had the sneaking feeling they are only mentioned in talk threads so much because they advertise heavily on here and everyone becomes aware of them.
Anyone used them before Mumsnet?
Or are they a MN phenomenon?

Nice for kid's stuff, but expensive. I've bought the odd thing from there for myself, but generally find the adult's stuff a bit too 'try hard'.

i used to work as a cleaner for a denist and his accountant wife and had never heard of them. The front cover lured me in and i sent away for one a catalogue and was converted .That was about 8 years ago

dizzydeee · 26/10/2010 17:08

uh, those were mine ... just mentioned that DH likes the range from t-lab.eu ?

The childrens clothes are well worth the money when paid for with a good discount code!! on the whole they can be passed on from sibling to sibling and, then get flogged on ebay. Whats not to like?

Its certainly not high fashion, I dont think its middle class either, just likes to think it is.

Wait for the sale in afew weeks and then see what you think.

dizzydeee · 27/10/2010 09:46

I agree, never buy unless its the sale! we've had good things over the years...

tefal · 27/10/2010 10:04

I've been considering trying the biker jacket. Has anyone got this and would you recommend? The reviews do appear to be quite good.

dizzydeee · 27/10/2010 10:11

mmm I haven't but used to have an original 20 years ago!!! not sure if I could carry that off now

miche8 · 27/10/2010 10:40

i agree the childrens clothes wash very well and look almost new when i go to sell them on ebay, it always goes for a good price, sometimes near the price i paid new or more if its a popular item that sold out. Always use a discount code. i also like how the clothes are different and not versions of mini adults, although i have noticed 'skulls' on some of the boys tops.

From the ladies clothes i love the handbags, scarves, plimsoles, basic tees, plain knitwear and plain swimwear. I'd buy so much more if they did plain colours.

I've never tried the skirts, dresses or trousers/jeans, they style just looks middle age.

kittya · 27/10/2010 11:51

I think I need to send the leopard bag back though. I usually like their handbags.
