Ugg Kensingtons or Kurt Geiger Sadlers, or some other biker/shearling boot?

DP and I are insanely broke, but my mother has finally got sick of seeing me in the same pair of (broken, leaky) black biker boots I've been wearing for (ahem) 8 years and offered to buy me a decent new pair. I like these uggs and KG boots, although I've only seen the Ugg ones in real life.

So, (a) are Ugg boots decent quality? (I'm fairly confident in KG, had a pair of shoes from them once). Don't want boots that will die after a season or two. (b) are there any nice cheaper similar boots out there that you can think of and (c) will I look like a twat wearing those with leggins/opaques and maternity tunics/jumper dresses? (Am pregnant, not just fat Grin)

Oh FFS, John Lewis website is showing them out of stock in an 8. Maybe I'll try H of F in the morning instead.

I really need to find some boots soon - I have eaten a whole bag of skittles and a bag of popcorn while googling boots, and there's a rather appealing toffee crisp sitting on the side too.

I had a moment in Office a few weeks ago while trying on the Ugg Kensingtons.

The lad advised me to go down a size. It took an assistant to get the fuckers off me. It was like giving birth. When she finally pulled the last one off me I asked whether it was a girl or a boy.

I thought my dsis and dniece were going to die of laughter.

I bought the ones in the next size though, and love'em. Clumpy though.

Take a look at Doc Martens site - either the Java or Case boots

Sorry can't link at the mo.

I love those Vernons... So glad I went without birthday pressies this year so I could ask for boots later on...

Holymoly321 · 08/10/2010 21:10

Tawdry! The Kensingtons are a bugger to get on and off aren't they?! Mine have eased up a bit - but I still have to be pretty sure I'm not leaving the house again befoe I take them off. But damn they are gorgeous! Grin

I am traumatised by the idea of being stuck in the kensingtons!

Am holding out hope that I will find the vernons tomorrow (either in H of F or JL) and fall in love with them. If I don't (or they are horrible) I will cry.

And now I'd better eat that toffee crisp. On the plus side, all my maternity wear will fit beautifully tomorrow after this evening's calorie-fest.

Have you got a Kew nearby? They have some great black short bikers but they are not on the website. (they are in the catalogue).

piprabbit · 08/10/2010 21:35

Finally back online properly....

DM Case boots.

Dm Jara boots.

FiveOrangePips · 08/10/2010 22:05

Did anyone see santiago I think they are pretty reasonably priced, but more an ankle boot.

MrsC2010 · 08/10/2010 22:33

I know what you mean Hopefully, I suspect if I actually tried them on I'd feel too 'try-hard', I guess I'm not very trendy deep down!

Giddyup · 08/10/2010 22:34

I love DM's they look lovely on my petite friends, but even when not obscenely pregnant I veer towards chunky (have my Fathers rugby playing legs) and I look butch in really chunky boots

MrsC2010 · 08/10/2010 22:34

Oooh I like them PipRabbit! Like the idea of DMs too...brings back cherry red teeneage days. So comfy.

piprabbit · 08/10/2010 22:35

Giddyup - I agree about chunky DMs - but surely they are no chunkier than the Uggs?

MrsC2010 · 08/10/2010 22:37

Has furry inner?

Giddyup · 08/10/2010 22:43

I know, Its my yearly boot conundrum, I adore them all but never find THE ONES, when they are on me. Its like when you take a picture to the Hairdressers and they do a fabulous job, but a little bit of you is disappointed that you don't look like the model in the picture!

The Kew ones that I was thinking of are called Oakland- they could be your perfect boot but they don't have them online.

MrsC2010 · 09/10/2010 07:24

I do love the KG ones, if someone else is paying grab them!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 09/10/2010 07:26

I love the KG ones, have been looking in stores a while to find a pair to try on with no luck. However saying that they are ££££. The DM Jennys look lovely at half that price....(adds to Amazon wish list)

Hopefully · 09/10/2010 08:36

There's a shop in town that sells DM, and a Kew, so I'm going to do a high speed boot recce this morning!

And maybe actually try some on, which might help me decide Hmm

I have the Ugg Kensingtons and they have been generally admired.

However I have had the humiliating experience of having them dragged off my feet by some helpful fellow passengers when they set an alarm off at airport security. Have also had my feet scanned in the UK by more sympathetic security when I couldn't get them off.

They are too clumpy to drive in and I can't guarantee being able to change them for pumps in the car which restricts my opportunities to wear them as I daren't risk them when I might need to drive.

I definitely wouldn't recommend them for someone who was pregnant - I have been dragged round the floor by my legs when my son has attempted to get them off me and I think I would have been less amused if pregnant at the time.

geordieminx · 10/10/2010 17:52

Dune had some nice black biker boots wih fleecy lining

Giddyup · 10/10/2010 22:35

Hopefully, did you get any boots?
