Original thread here...

Shop on the Beach, who have been reporting that their Merrell coats have been flying out the door [hmm, wonder why...? Grin] following my coat thread, have bloody well sent me a free pair of Merrell boots! And they fit beautifully! And I love them!

They are OFFICIALLY my lovely, wonderful people of choice. Moveover Mr Boden, Mumsnet has a new god...

[And by the way, I do NOT work for them, do not work in marketing/PR, and I asked MNHQ's permission before posting this thread...]

Ha! I'm going to take some of the credit, as it was me that told the lovely Nadine all about the MN thread in the first place. But they are fab - such great service and charm.

odetothewestwing · 18/09/2010 17:55

I got the Wakefield and am banking on it being ok as a winter coat, too. With a fleece or other layers underneath, scarf, hat etc I reckon it'll be ok to double up as both waterproof AND winterproof.

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 18/09/2010 17:58

I'm desperate for a similar coat that comes in a larger size - I'd have bought that Merrell one on the back of this thread alone but it only goes up to a 14 . Anyone suggest anything in an 18?

But a lovely story - great customer service - thanks for sharing.

Habbibu · 18/09/2010 19:45

Not sure if the North Face Lauren comes up any bigger - there's a size chart, but it is v nice, I think, and insulated. But more expensive!

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 18/09/2010 20:04

I've found the really long thread and I quite like the Craghoppers one - thank you all for such a useful thread. x

ttalloo · 18/09/2010 20:19

The trouble with internet shopping is that it's so easy to get distracted by other lovely things, such as this duvet coat, also at SOTB. Apparently it's very warm and cosy, and showerproof, but not waterproof.

Oh FGS. Sat innocently watching X factor and mnetting, and have just spent 100 bloody squids on a haven!

alittlebitshy · 18/09/2010 21:26

wilf yay well done!

what would they be like on someone with non slim calves. even when i am thinner i need duo boots so what would these be like?

pebblejones · 18/09/2010 21:27

Oooh I like the haven! I'm looking for a new coat... And those boots are lovely... Can I ask a question about the boots? I have very chunky calves Blush are they quite tight fitting?

pebblejones · 18/09/2010 21:29

Oooohhh bitshy same question!

FiveOrangePips · 18/09/2010 21:30

bumperlicious the haven is like a waterproof electric blanket imho.

alittlebitshy · 18/09/2010 21:35

Agree with orangepip re the haven. amazingly warm:)

been googling the boots for the last few mins. love love love.
as well as the chunky calf issue, what about if my usual jeans are not skinnies (because of chunky thighs)?

FiveOrangePips · 18/09/2010 22:30

Waves back at alittlebitshy !

I would wear the jeans that are not skinnies over the boots, they would look like trainers (think Northwaves circa 1998?).

I would like some boots and think they would be fine for chunky calves - though I haven't tried them I just want some Merrell boots to go with my Merrell haven (saddo)

alittlebitshy · 19/09/2010 08:07

ooh good, you said what i wanted to hear.
have already spread the world and a friend of mine on facebook is after them too. tee hee.

Melty · 19/09/2010 09:09

Field and Trekhere
have the black Wakefield , although havent tried ordering, will have to wait til Friday.

WilfShelf · 19/09/2010 11:57

BTW I have fat large calves too, and my lovely new FREE Merrell boots are fine: they're both quite wide/adjustable and quite low cut.

You'd have be wearing quite wide (eg bootleg) trousers to wear them 'over' the top I think.

PS Wakefield does come in a XL which I think is a 16, but not every shop who seems to have it has it in that size. That F&T link DOES have it in 16 in black only...

LittleCheesyPineappleOne · 19/09/2010 12:33

Thanks WilfShelf - 16 would be pushing it - maybe next winter... Grin

Good news about the boots fitting yr calves - I have that problem too even when thin

chegggersplayspop · 20/09/2010 12:42

Ooh, I ordered the Wakefield from field and trek yesterday and it's just arrived! Love it! It fits really well in the 12, so I would say they come up a little small so order up especially if you want to wear jumpers underneath. arms are perfect too.

BellevilleRendezvous · 21/09/2010 16:40

ok I NEVER post in S&B (am not remotely beautiful or stylish) but wanted to say thank you to WilfShelf for

a) saving me the hassle of finding a much-needed winter coat (last winter I walked round flapping because the zip on my Bench one from 2007 had broken but I couldn't find another coat I like, it was not a good look or a warm one). I saw this thread, clicked, found the Haven, bought. That's about 5 hours of my life you've saved me. And for

b) posting a link to those fabulous boots. I added a pair to the coat order, they arrived this morning and I pranced off to college in them, I am not exaggerating, about every third person complimented me on them. This NEVER happens to me, my clothes are usually too dull to comment on.

PS your RL "namesake" walks up my road every day with a ridiculously small dog.... just in case you're a fan! I assume you are not actually him.

livvyliv · 21/09/2010 16:47

Bad news-those boots are useless in the snow.I bought them last year and yes they are lovely but I spent half the time on my backside.Absolutely no grip on them.
Just a warning

BellevilleRendezvous · 21/09/2010 16:49

ah no worries they will get plenty of use on all the non-snowy days we get round here!

WilfShelf · 21/09/2010 19:46

again

I don't mind if mine aren't grippy: they were FREE...

And anyway, after last winter I have snowgrips for snow and ice....

Also wanted to say thank you to Wilfshelf for this great thread - I'm on the waiting list for a small plum Wakefield at SOTB (due in a month; I've never been a waiting list for clothes before!), and thanks to my discovering SOTB through your threads I now have the Patagonia Down With It Parka, which is so warm and cosy that I am now praying for a Siberian winter.

I don't suppose you can put your considerable talents to identifying the best 'mummy' bag around? Big enough to carry half the house but mustn't look like a nappy bag; must be stylish, but capable of coping with leaky water bottles and squished raisins.

Habbibu · 22/09/2010 10:00

ttalloo, don't know if you'd call it stylish, but I love my North Face messenger bag- I use it as a nappy bag, totally waterproof, and comes in plain bright colours. Good price on the link I gave atm.
