When a girl is tired of Topshop, is she tired of life?!

Sorry to misquote Johnson but we only have a small branch in my town and I was v excited to have a chance to go to the Ox Circus branch at the weekend and didn't see a single THING that I fancied.
Admittedly, I'm pregnant but there really wasn't anything that I fancied for after the baby.

Should I write myself off as any kind of stylista now? I'm 32 - where else should I be shopping?

I went to Oasis and Hennes was similarly underwhelmed.

Nope it's just means she's not a try-hard teenager anymore.

ShowOfHands · 13/09/2010 10:17

It means she's not a girl, she's a grown up.

BooBooGlass · 13/09/2010 10:18

Nope, it just means that if you want to dress as if your entire wardrobe came from the bargain bin of the local charity shop, you'd rather not pay £40 for the priveledge. And I'm only 26 Our one has some horrific window displays atm
Try Oasis. I am a big convert to their jeans. And H and M is still funky but not so achingly tryhard as Topshop

Tortington · 13/09/2010 10:21

topshop is dire

nikkershaw · 13/09/2010 10:25

fashion is a bit shite atm but there are few gems still in topshop

thedollshouse · 13/09/2010 10:27

I never really liked topshop anyway. About 15 years ago it wasn't considered trendy, it was a bit cheap. Then it became really hip and trendy but its appeal seems to have passed me by.

CuppaTeaJanice · 13/09/2010 10:29

Topshop is so expensive though. There are much better shops on the high street, with nicer clothes at half the price.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/09/2010 10:32

I have never really rated Topshop. Everyone raves about the jeans but I think they are awful tbh.

The knitwear is very good, I usually but a few polonecks from their tall range, but I don't think it is a wonderful shop by any means.

Plus it's not exactly cheap for what it is. Spend a few quid more and you can get yourself something far nicer from French Connection or All Saints.

Bumperlicious · 13/09/2010 10:34

God, I'm 29 and haven't shopped there for years!

Aitch · 13/09/2010 10:36

i've never got topshop, tbh, you can spit peas through most of their fabrics.

cornsilk909 · 13/09/2010 10:38

I don't shop in Topshop it's a bit meh. I'm more upset by not shopping in Miss Selfridges any more. I daren't go in. The shop assistants always seem to check me out cautiously as if I might be their mate's mum.

BooBooGlass · 13/09/2010 10:42

O no I love a bit of Miss Selfridge. My favourite going out dress is from there and was only 30 quid. Not to mention, as ours is hidden away in a teeny corner of Debenhams, the stuff isn't on every second teenager you walk by, which is the problem with Topshop. I mean, where do they get their money from?

spiritmum · 13/09/2010 10:43

I've never been into Topshop - it used to be cheap and nasty and then when it wasn't I was too old. (and unlike the rest of the world I do not rate Kate Moss as a style icon)

Hobbs is my fave High St place atm. Toast fave on-line, Wrap and Poetry are also good.

notyummy · 13/09/2010 11:43

I usually find something I like in Top Shop....but I think that it had its moment 3/4 years ago and now a lot of the rest of the high street has caught up.

I like Warehouse a lot , also Oasis, H and M - sometimes Zara and Mango too (although have sizing issues with them.)

I am 38, but I don't think its an age thing.

partyhats · 13/09/2010 16:46

atm Topshop is crap but I can usualy find a nice cardigan or jumper in there at a reasonable price. In fact most of my cardigans are from there. Much prefer Zara, Mango and the odd gem in TKMaxx.

Ronaldinhio · 13/09/2010 16:49

I must be bloddy knackereed then

ebojones · 13/09/2010 17:45

I have found nothing in Topshop for ages but I am soon to be 34 and wonder if it is an age thing Wink
TBH much happier at Boden, Kew, Next, Gap etc... these days

cherylvole · 13/09/2010 18:11

no champagne

its all bloody cack for teenagers

ValiumSingleton · 13/09/2010 18:13

no, no, no!!

you just need new, better shops!! Betty jackson and Max Mara weekend start to seem very exciting around the time Top Shop begins to seem crap.

Tootiredforgodtyping · 13/09/2010 18:47

This season is particularly shite in topshop the 1993 grunge/crustie look....er the point is you don't pay ££££££ for it you make it yourself with charity shop stuff?

Clure · 13/09/2010 19:04

have just bought a nice sparkly vest from TS and eye on Baxters although havent shopped there for a few years (I'm 42 Shock and don't care)
Dotty P's has some quite nice stuff at the moment. Also liking Label Lab at House of Frazer, Warehouse for smarter stuff, still like the odd thing in Miss Selfridge and of course New Look you can;t beat for a bargain!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/09/2010 19:05

No, OP, not tired of life, just grown up!!

pointydog · 13/09/2010 19:17

when a girl is tired of top shop, I just think she is a woman.

I know it's meant to be on trend and suitable for all, in theory, but I couldn't bring myself to go into the shop never mind buy the stuff.

I might be missing out but I'm just not that bothered about TS.

BelligerentGhoul · 13/09/2010 19:18

I go in with the dds sometimes. The quality is awful and it seems very expensive to me. I haven't worn anything from there since about 1985ish.

If a girl is tired of Topshop, she is just tired of crap.

EleFunTess · 13/09/2010 19:22

I went off Topshop a few years ago (I'm 33). Over-priced for the (poor) quality, everything is aimed at the very slim and most of it looks like partywear

I did like their Maternity skinny jeans, though. And I like their extra long black leggings.
