bunnymother · 23/09/2010 13:10

OWW - err, would it be so very bad to buy the cakes for your coffee mornings?

MarshaBrady · 23/09/2010 13:24

I adore that picture of the women with the baby in the sling.

They are often so easy to carry and still get stuff done. What a beautiful thing.

Apuski am very glad things are going well with little A.

Roman there was a nice poncho floating around earlier on these threads from the White Company I think

Romanarama · 23/09/2010 13:28

I'm really busy today and bl&@dy Microsoft word keeps freezing. It's soooo annoying. My dh would quite like dc4 but he's also an impatient man who worries about his health, and is obsessed with work at the expense of other things. So it can be a bit tense around here sometimes and we both recognise the need for equilibrium.Oh and we move house all the time and I can't see it being better with 4 kids somehow!

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 23/09/2010 13:35

I'm in 2 minds about the baby at work photo, on one hand I think good on her if she feels she is ready and able to go back to work and on the other hand I think (uncharitable I understand) I bet she has a cleaner, housekeeper and the resources to have a night nanny if required which makes it a tad easier than most woman at home to go back to work and do a good job when they have a 3 month old.

blossoming · 23/09/2010 13:57

Have just baked a mahoosive coffee cake for dc1's b'day tomorrow. With loads of icing. He wants a flake scattered over the top too!!
So that's one cake down. Still have rice krispy cakes; choc cake, lemon finger cakes, etc for the big do on Saturday. 'you have to make everything' said dc1. I've made a rod for my own back here!!

notyummy · 23/09/2010 13:59

Libra - I know what you mean. There is a slightly more erudite article about the lady in the Times - but I can't link to it because I don't subscribe online! Apparently one of her aims is to influence people to think about how working culture can adapt to be more flexible around families needs, which sounds laudable. I suspect at the moment you are probably right about the nanny/housekeeper etc - would be nice to think that she could wield some influence for a wider group of parents though.

Oh, and EIE _ I quite agree about getting loads done when they are that little. I did loads on mat leave with DD, once we had worked out a rough routine together. Went back to work at 6 months just before she started to crawl which would have made life a bit more difficult in terms of getting things done.

Appreciate it is not the same when you have tiny baby plus toddler/pre-schooler etc btw! I once looked after 4 DCs aged between 18 months and 5 years (inc mine) for one afternoon and spent part of the time in sheer terror at who was going to hurt themselves next....!

ApuskiDusky · 23/09/2010 14:17

Thanks everyone for your good wishes - you are all lovely!

The prospect of going back to work at this point with a 3 month old would scare me witless just because of where my head is at - I'm still in baby obsession land - but a friend is a self-employed dentist and has had to go back to work two months on to keep her clients, so I guess you do what you need to do. But I did have a broody attack when I saw the baby in the sling - despite me already having one! But two is enough for me (she says, having put maternity clothes back in the loft..)

Weekend wardrobe is sorted, after much rummaging - so I will be wearing a black Thomas Pink shirt dress for my birthday lunch, a purple Ghost knitted dress with henley-style buttons for the ruby wedding lunch, and black trousers and grey Brora jumper for funeral - I am not going to the crematorium as I am looking after everyone's children, before meeting up at the hotel afterwards, so I need to keep it practical for my creche duties! It'll be nice to have to get out of my jeans and sweaty betty trackies! Blush at letting myself go....

carciofi · 23/09/2010 14:19

Libra, I bet you're right! Sweet photo though.

Blossoming, yum, coffee cake. What shoes do you wear with your black DVF dress? I want to wear it to a party on Sat night so may have to go shoe shopping tomorrow. :)

Ollie, here is the recipe. Sorry about your friend's mother.

Well done, baby Apuski!

Roma, like the belt and cosy.

EIE those Earl jeans were a good buy.

What a horrible day here.

notyummy · 23/09/2010 14:20

Apuski - your outfits sound great. And well done to both you and baby Apuski on the weight gain. I had the opposite problem - the HV accused me of fibbing to her that dd was exc bf because she put on so much weight that she was a complete porker. (85th centile at birth to 98th a few weeks later - she was like a party balloon...!) Seems like they are never happy, eh?

OP posts:
notyummy · 23/09/2010 14:26

Meant to say yesterday - really sorry you can't make the meet-up hells.

Did we decide on a venue (seem to remember a place getting a consensus of approval?) And is the idea to go for 2pmish lunch followed by drinks later for those who prefer an evening slot?

Questions, questions...

I will need to book train tickets shortly to get the super cheap rates (tight, moi?) so was thinking about it last night.

OP posts:
ApuskiDusky · 23/09/2010 14:30

NY, I know what you mean, it's like you have to fit between 25th and 75th centiles at all times. Thank goodness A isn't my first, I'd be much more freaked and blaming myself for being incapable of nourishing my child if I hadn't bfed ds1 for over a year!

Bloss, baking sounds fab. I have failed with the birthday cake making so far - I haven't baked since I had a Saturday/holiday job in a bakery as a teen, and I'm not sure I remember how any more.

Romanarama · 23/09/2010 14:36

Looks from the article like she's only an mep because her dad is one of berlusconi's friends. In which case I'm quite sure she's loaded. I'm still glad she's taking a stand though - perhaps especially if she could have left her baby with a nanny.

Romanarama · 23/09/2010 14:47

Is there a meet up? When is it?

notyummy · 23/09/2010 14:48

Sat 16th Oct Roma

OP posts:
Romanarama · 23/09/2010 15:01

Thanks ny, would love to meet you but that won't work for me

Romanarama · 23/09/2010 15:04

I've just lost the doc I spent 2 hours writing

ReineDeSaba · 23/09/2010 15:05

I'm still reading, just not getting time to post at the moment but please please please could you relink your boots Roma as I missed the first link and have gone back through posts to find but no joy and they sound very exciting..thanks..just dashing off for nursery pick up so hope to see them when I get backSmile

hello to everyone else and especially bunny plus bump..maybe you will be lucky zembo and get the magic of twins too.

OllieWollieWoo · 23/09/2010 15:08

Carciofi - you little food fairy - thank you! Looked for it last night and couldn't see it. Not sure why the word beta appears in the web address but now off to print it out so I never loose it again!
Blossoming - could just scoff a slice of coffee cake. Yum.

Confession - was just about to do an M&S order and saw they had their xmas cards and wrapping paper online so popped a few bits into my basket! So sad.....its only September....!

bunnymother · 23/09/2010 15:27

Oh dear, do I have bad / boring taste or should I bid for this beige R&B handbag? Must admit that it doesn't make my heart beat faster, but imagine it would be useful.

Hi Reine! Ha ha, I would really laugh if Zembo has twins - that's DC3 AND DC4 sorted! Grin Assuming you were happy, Zembo, and if you weren't, my heartfelt sympathies if such a situation arose.

ReineDeSaba · 23/09/2010 16:18

Sorry Roma..just back from nursery and realise xpost..what a pain about your work

OWW..I love your organisation..unfortunately if I try to think ahead on those sorts of things,by the time xmas comes,I never remember where I put them!..this also happens every time we have childrens' birthday parties..I have loads of stashed wrapping paper and cards but always have to buy more as cannot track the emergency reserves down..not very wise!

traceybath · 23/09/2010 16:19

OK - I'll grab Bunny and someone hide her credit card Wink No bunny - step away from the bag.

In town yesterday I walked past such a well-dressed woman. She had a very chic dark haired bob and was wearing patent ballet fats, rolled up indigo skinnies, white shirt, metallic belt and red birkin - tres elegant.

LetThemEatCake · 23/09/2010 16:20

Roma got a lot of use out of the IO cable cosy last year and it has made an appearance few time already this year. Still really like it, looks good belted too.

love the trousers and am still tempted by them, wouldn't bother with the obi belt personally as find them a faff (ordered one from asos once, sent it back)

LetThemEatCake · 23/09/2010 16:20

huh??

a few times already, I mean.

DolceeBanana · 23/09/2010 16:37

Hello! Been lurking but feeling really yuk at the moment....we all have grotty colds and baby on antibiotics as v poorly with hacking cough! So, all great here...dh tres miserable and (unnecessarily) penny pinching so no spending either!

Boo hoo....have felt so hacked off I have been looking at job ads as I am feeling, and always have, that I want/need my own money. I hate asking for money/spending dh's etc...trouble is used to have a fab job which paid exceptionally well so the girl can't get her head around not having luxuries....dh generous when it comes to 'occasions'...but we have different ideas on 'necessities' ifyswim! Ho hum.....

Dh earns well, so actually getting a job not necessary, and he would be dead against, but I want my own independence ! I feel like it's a step back to have to 'ask' for things....and the hideous checking off of bank statements !!!! Stamps foot......oh, that hurt (!)....how do you other SAHMs work it?
