Okay, the cat's out the bag (on MN if not in RL) - this is for my own v low-key wedding in 2 weeks.

Thank you so much to all who gave opinions on my original thread about choosing between 3 dresses.

Dress 3 was never in the running (deepdarkwood summed it up by saying I'd risk being mistaken for an overplumped cushion)

I made it even between Dress 1 which I still insist is navy and Dress 2 which is purple. 8 votes each.

I still really love both dresses but, with apologies to MaryQueenof Chocs and my fashion-advice friend Tethersend, I've decided to go with Dress 1..... ta da!! I took on board what Traceybath said about needing to feel va va voom Wink

So now, shoes - going by advice so far I'm wondering about nude or navy patent courts? I linked to some Clarks options but they didn't get much response so I'm assuming they weren't suitable (at least 2 had a strap across as I struggle to keep shoes on my feet). Am a size 39/40, wide flat feet, not used to heels, will be dealing with 2 toddlers.

Also, is there anything I can get to wear over the top? I would suggest a cardi but Tethers might faint. Anything though? We've got a registry office thing (only our parents and dc there), then afternoon tea in a nice hotel where DP & I will then stay the night, having dinner. So I thought maybe an extra layer for the afternoon bit so I can go to dinner with just the dress for maximum effect? It might be freezing given current weather conditions. I have no idea what to wear though.

Jewellery - bracelets? cuffs? I don't like gold but am thinking silver? I have a plain silver flat wide chain (no idea what the proper name is) that I'm wondering about as a necklace? Any better ideas?

Thank you very much. Since it's secret, I have noone else to talk to about it (except MIL who is a long way away - my mum not that interested)

And just for completeness these are the shoes I had wanted dd1 to wear with her purple dress. She cried and said she wanted a red dress like her sister and then chose these things in a kind of cherry red/pinky colour.

Which dd2 won't even try on.

And breathe....

Going to bed now and try to relax about it all while at work for the rest of the week Grin

ladylush · 05/09/2010 22:25

Oh what fun.........have all this to look forward to with my dd. But she is only 1 so I am totally enjoying her inability to refuse my clothes choices for her!

gingerkirsty · 05/09/2010 23:08

lol @ "This isn't just grey velvet. This is New Look grey velvet." - their marketing department should hire you! Grin

Buy DD2 some red crocs so at least she'll be colour coordinated, leave the labels on those and the spangly shoes and take back whichever she doesn't wear - and stop worrying, it will all be fine!

gingerkirsty · 05/09/2010 23:12

Just looked at linky for jacket and it looks gorgeous IMO - even if slightly less cool in RL will still be lovely.

If you liked the look of those purple shoes from schuh i linked to earlier they do next day delivery for a fiver and you can return in store free of charge. Worth gambling a fiver or were you not as keen anyway? I think the colour looked pretty close to the dress which btw I think is gorgeous.

Please please please post some pics for us afterwards!

and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

gingerkirsty · 05/09/2010 23:14

@ Ladylush I linked to both those pairs of schuh shoes earlier in the thread and in fact own one of them - we are kindred shoe spirits (or something) Grin

traceybath · 06/09/2010 06:26

Another new look velvet jacket This one looks less shiney and you could just get rid of the corsage.

NorkilyChallenged · 06/09/2010 07:03

Tracey - I saw that other jacket, it was less shiny but they didn't have my size and the other sizes really didn't sit well as it's not fantastically well cut.

Thanks Gingerkirsty - I did go in Schuh to look for those purple ones but they didn't have them. Thank you for the info on ordering. I think with the La Redoute ones (possibly) winging their way here and two different velvet blazers in my bedroom, I'm going to stop my purchasing there but thank you Grin

Glad people think hte jacket looks okay. I think I've lost all perspective (thought the dress wasn't that nice when I tried it on again yesterday Sad so think I'm just getting silly now)

Lol to red crocs, good idea!

Just a hint, not to confuse you I hope - try taking pics of yourself in all the possible combinations.

I find it distances me enough from my own image that I can be objective about it - seeing yourself as others see you, rather than looking straight in the mirror.

Best of luck, anyway.

ladylush · 06/09/2010 22:48

gingerkirsty how funny Grin

gingerkirsty · 07/09/2010 12:16

Norkily hope you are almost ready, 2 days to go! How exciting!

gingerkirsty · 09/09/2010 11:12

IT'S THE BIG DAY!!!!!!!!!! Hope all is well and everyone is appropriately outfitted, have a FANTASTIC day and post some pics when you can!

xxx

NorkilyChallenged · 11/09/2010 12:11

Thanks gingerkirsty for your excitement!

And thank you everyone for all your help. For a very brief time only, I'm going to up a photo so you can see the outfit you helped to create. And the girls, looking adorable.

The panic-bought La Redoute shoes arrived 3 hours before we left for the registry office, fitted perfectly and matched the dress (the bits that said gold looked much more silver and so matched my jewellery). It was fate, so I wore them and will keep the teal Kew shoes for work and looking glam Wink Thank you thank you to Moragbellingham for finding the shoes for me.

Right, have added photos to my profile and anyone who wants to see them, just let me know and I'll add you to my "mumsnet mates" list thing so you can view it (the kids are on it so don't want it public).

Not best pictures of me but wanted one where you can see my shoes and dress and how cute the girls were Grin

It was a lovely day, we had a great time and I wore my New Look grey velvet jacket during dinner (just the two of us after my in-laws took the children away for the night). Hurrah to MN S&B shopping!

tethersend · 11/09/2010 12:31

Oh, Norkily- you look beautiful. Your daughters are gorgeous.

And your outfit is a triumph!

So... how do you feel as Mrs Norkily? Smile

(BTW, I could see the photo- am I on your mates list? Or are your settings not as you wanted?)

NorkilyChallenged · 11/09/2010 12:38

Tethers, darling, of course you're on my mates list (which I just created) Grin

Girls v cute, even when not showing their knickers or sticking out their tongues. DD2 did say, in the middle of the "I do solemnly declare" serious bit... "I done a poo poo" which hugely added to my enjoyment of the occasion Grin Grin

Tbh, it feels a bit odd, but it's not changing much - we've been together 17 years, I'm not changing my name, we don't have rings. We weren't even going to tell people (our parents were all there, our families know but not work, etc) but then I got out of the car in the registry office car park right next to someone from work (there to register a death, sadly) so now there's no way it will stay secret for long. But doesn't change anything, really.

Though we have said that we have eaten much better since we got married (night in hotel, fab food, cooked breakfast Wink) and it's the first night away from the dc we've ever had too which was pretty much worth getting married for Grin

Done, TMAM, of course you shall see it Grin

And thank you.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 12/09/2010 23:44

Ooh, am I allowed as well? Don't worry if it's one rubber necker S&B fan too many!

Love those shoes, btw, and the teal ones.

gtamom · 13/09/2010 07:41

Congratulations! I cannot believe you managed to do all that shopping in a day or two, with children. I was feeling anxious just looking at all of the choices! Hope you had a beautiful day and enjoy a special night with your dh.

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/09/2010 08:34

Knockout Norks. Grin I just love the girls.

traceybath · 14/09/2010 12:46
