Okay, the cat's out the bag (on MN if not in RL) - this is for my own v low-key wedding in 2 weeks.

Thank you so much to all who gave opinions on my original thread about choosing between 3 dresses.

Dress 3 was never in the running (deepdarkwood summed it up by saying I'd risk being mistaken for an overplumped cushion)

I made it even between Dress 1 which I still insist is navy and Dress 2 which is purple. 8 votes each.

I still really love both dresses but, with apologies to MaryQueenof Chocs and my fashion-advice friend Tethersend, I've decided to go with Dress 1..... ta da!! I took on board what Traceybath said about needing to feel va va voom Wink

So now, shoes - going by advice so far I'm wondering about nude or navy patent courts? I linked to some Clarks options but they didn't get much response so I'm assuming they weren't suitable (at least 2 had a strap across as I struggle to keep shoes on my feet). Am a size 39/40, wide flat feet, not used to heels, will be dealing with 2 toddlers.

Also, is there anything I can get to wear over the top? I would suggest a cardi but Tethers might faint. Anything though? We've got a registry office thing (only our parents and dc there), then afternoon tea in a nice hotel where DP & I will then stay the night, having dinner. So I thought maybe an extra layer for the afternoon bit so I can go to dinner with just the dress for maximum effect? It might be freezing given current weather conditions. I have no idea what to wear though.

Jewellery - bracelets? cuffs? I don't like gold but am thinking silver? I have a plain silver flat wide chain (no idea what the proper name is) that I'm wondering about as a necklace? Any better ideas?

Thank you very much. Since it's secret, I have noone else to talk to about it (except MIL who is a long way away - my mum not that interested)

Ooh I do like those if I could walk in them. Will def try on. Purple really ok with navy then?

traceybath · 28/08/2010 18:41

Oh definitely - I think they had those padded insoles

NorkilyChallenged · 01/09/2010 18:31

Right, just reporting back as I always like it when people do that on threads I gave advice on.

Tried on pretty much everything mentioned above. The bargainous M&S ones were sold out in purple in my store, tried the black and they were pretty good but then I had made the mistake of first trying on the gorgeous Kew ones also recommended by Traceybath.

They are much more green than blue, they're called teal and on the web to me they looked dark blue but they're a dark sparkly kind of green really. They were in the sale (£59), fitted really well and looked fab...

However, unconvinced that green shoes will go with blue dress. Have yet to try the two together (waiting for kids to go to bed) to see if it will work. Women in Kew all assured me it'd be fine but I'm not sure (wouldn't tend to put navy and green together myself). Shoes were too lovely to not buy though.

The Top Shop ones looked like they were coated in clingflim (cheap), New Look ones gaped all over the place, nothing else much good really.

Still no wrap - like the Coast one but think it will be a faff tomanage that plus toddlers. Am still looking at cardigans (ducks to avoid Tethers hitting her with a shoe)

If you decide to go for the Coast shrug, get it today to get the 20% off. Have you had a look at any of the other cover ups on the Coast website? www.coast-stores.com/cover-ups/dept/fcp-category/categorylist?resetFilters=true

tethersend · 02/09/2010 13:51

I am not sure about green shoes and dress, but it's one of those things you'd have to see together- you obviously love the shoes though! You should probably wear them Smile

NorkilyChallenged · 03/09/2010 08:19

I think you're right - I'm not convinced about the green and blue either. Might wear it anyway (gasp) as didn't find any other shoes I liked/could walk in.

Thanks :)

traceybath · 03/09/2010 08:21

I think the blue and green could look nice - like the leaves of a tree next to a stormy sky - or something like that Wink

Are you still set on a cardigan? If so how about a little cropped cashmere number?

traceybath · 03/09/2010 08:24

boden

or

brora

slightly cheaper brora

or another boden - I have this in the silver and its very pretty

Hides from tethers Wink

NorkilyChallenged · 03/09/2010 09:04

Thanks Tracey :)

I still feel I need an extra layer in case it's cold (and to slightly dress down while having afternoon tea possibly). I am envisaging a thin/fine cardi though I can't find one anywhere (like a silk knit or something) that would not hide the shape of the dress or anything.

The cashmere ones are lovely but possibly more than I need? Having said that, I haven't found anything else... Was ill this week which has thrown me off my rather tight schedule so I don't have much time now either, sigh. Don't have anything for dc2 to wear either. Eek! Who thought this would be a good idea?

Have a look here.......

jammietart · 03/09/2010 12:44

Did you look at any of the Phase Eight cardigans they do to go with their dresses? Their stuff can be a bit matchy matchy but I saw this yesterday and thought abut you and your wedding/dress/shoe thread

www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Knitwear/Cap-Sleeve-Knitted-Shrug/400971402

Any good?

Sorry youve been ill; hope you are feeling better

NorkilyChallenged · 04/09/2010 08:19

Woolovers was a great idea, ladylush, thank you. I found some cardis that I liked but nothing in a good colour where my size was available :(

Jammietart, thank you for the suggestion. Not sure that short sleeves will really help me, want a cardi for warm arms! There is a navy mid-sleeve shrug to match the dress but I do think that looks a bit too matchy matchy. And thanks, I'm feeling better though still off my food a bit (a v unusual situation if you know me Wink)

In desperation (5 days to go) I've ordered this and hope it will arrive in time and not look horrible.

I can feel Tethersend wincing from here. Eek

ladylush · 04/09/2010 09:37

Shame Sad I also wondered about the colours.

NorkilyChallenged · 04/09/2010 09:58

This was the Woolovers one I liked best but the only colour that worked really was the brown and the medium was 2 week wait...

Congrats norkily, I love the m&s patent shoes that Tracey linked. Depending on your legs I would generally steer clear of ankle straps and go with a classic court shape to elongate your legs.

For my wedding I got an ivory wrap from H&M for £5.99. It was just to drape round my shoulders/arms while we were outside having photos taken so I couldn't see point in spending £££s. It is worth looking in H&M, matalan etc if you want something simple/plain that won't detract from your gorgeous dress.

moragbellingham · 04/09/2010 10:58

not a cardi and not a wrap Any good, or have you decided.

moragbellingham · 04/09/2010 11:02

I think the shoes would look nice but then your wrap/cardi would have to be heading towards green/teal too.
How many days left BTW?

woopsidaisy · 04/09/2010 11:05

Love the dress, norkily. What about these. Or maybe these if you want the wider fitting, here. Or these. more. little bolero here.

moragbellingham · 04/09/2010 11:08

cream? I have this in black, it's a silky knit and provides just enough warmth. Think they did an oyster colour instore last year.

moragbellingham · 04/09/2010 18:38

navy too high?

tethersend · 04/09/2010 18:55

Oh Christ. The cardigan's a done deal, isn't it?

Oh Norkily. I concede defeat. For the first and last time, I shall link to a cardi. Let this be testament to how much you mean to me.

Here

Don't tell a soul.

What day is the wedding?

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/09/2010 19:17

Couldn't we get you to consider a little velvet blazer like this? The dress is divine.

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/09/2010 19:31

No wait, look at this gorgeous jacket. It'd look fantastic.

traceybath · 04/09/2010 19:39

Oh yes, liking Themaster's ideas.

Here's another velvet jacket and would look fab with jeans afterwards.

Or this is lovely grey leather jacket

Quite sweet

tethersend · 04/09/2010 19:59

If you end up not wearing a cardigan after making me link to one, I'll never recover.

Although I like the velvet jacket too.
