Anyone recently had a 'big curl' perm?

I have long layered hair and have recently started to curl it to make it look fuller and just to try something different.

I've just bought a hair magazine for the first time in ages and there is a style in there that I love - but it would mean having it permed which I am very dubious about. It would just save a lot of time and effort by having it done rather than having to curl it myself.

Has anyone recently had a perm? - I had one 20 years ago and swore I'd never have another!

I always wanted a spiral perm. All the cool girls had one

Chunkamatic · 28/08/2010 21:24

I could well be tempted for a perm, as my hair sounds just like jaq13's... it's too inbetween to look good without too much effort for someone with two young kids!!
A friend of mine recently had an Aveda perm though and was very unimpressed, the curls were too tight and it fell out really quickly, so that has put me off.

Oooh. Another casualty of 80s perms watching with interest.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker - have come back to see if you got the perm done? If so, how is it?

My appointment is booked for next Tues, 14th. I been putting lots of conditioning treatments on my hair and its looking the best its ever looked (typical!!) but I'm still going ahead with the perm.

My friends and MIL are trying to talk me out of it but I need a change and the hairdresser said it will fall out between 6 - 8 weeks - just praying it doesn't look like Janice Battersby's new hairstyle Shock

Keep your fingers crossed for me girls ............ will put a before and after photo on next week if I'm feeling brave!

Oooh, will be waiting with bated breath. Am so tempted by this. I curl mine most mornings with my ghds and it is definitely taking its toll!

LC200 - I'm the same. Seems daft to keep curling it with hot irons if there's a perm which will have the same effect

Will keep you posted.

ooh jaq13 my hair is like yours too... i too have thought about perms but worried it would be too curly...

I once had my (then) waist length hair permed in Kyle of Lochalsh. The hairdresser nipped out for her messages whilst the perm was 'cooking' and then bumped into some friends so 'had a blether'.

The result looked like a large black sheep had landed on my head.
It happened in the 80's so the perm was in there with footballers and Bonnie Tyler.

Am fed up with rollers and tongs.Did anyone have any luck perming?

LouMacca · 14/09/2010 10:27

Well have just walked for 15 minutes in the pouring rain to the hairdressers and they have made a cock-up!

Apparently I have 'fell off' the computer and they have no record of my appointment even though I have an appointment card with all the details on for today Hmm

I am now back home after walking another 15 minutes in the pourinig rain. My hairdresser is ringing me to re-book. I am really cross as I'm working tomorrow and Friday and have made arrangements to see a friend on Thursday so I guess I'll have to wait until next week now Angry
