We haven't poked fun at M&S for ages

I'll start

Abstract indeed. The black mix is particularly...um...abstract.

well your link is to a 'cute and contemporary' item sungirltan, am not surprised it doesn't go with what you bought. They don't match.

BelligerentGhoul · 23/08/2010 23:21

I can't get excited about M&S food, except for their carrot salad and the apricot swiss roll thing. They used to do nice butternut filo pies but have stopped. Everything else bores me.

I like bits of Autograph and Ltd Collection, especially the plain t-shirts. Autograph tights and stockings are things of beauty and wonder, especially the ones with a teeny bit of cashmere in.

topsi · 24/08/2010 08:54

oooo I love my M&S 'corsalette'

These are different purple platforms. I like them.

Please tell me they're OK. Please?

I have an interview on Thursday, see, and need some smart shoes that are neither outlandish nor boring. Also I think they'll go with a dress I want to wear to a wedding in November.

sungirltan · 24/08/2010 10:22

floweryblue - eh?

floweryblue · 24/08/2010 23:31

suntan, the 'lovely' hat you linked to is described by M&S as 'a cute contemporary finishing touch', hence it not matching your own, well worn, genuinely groovy gloves.

Have I answered your question?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 24/08/2010 23:36

I buy most of my christmas food from M&S Blush

Just13moreyearstogo · 24/08/2010 23:54

Huge sigh of relief that none of the clothes I bought today have been featured on this thread. The thing I most hate about Emma Ness is Myleene Klass gurning everywhere you look. Drives me nuts.

DancingThroughLife · 25/08/2010 00:21

How do they manage to make the clothes look better on the hangers than on the models??? Confused

I'm also quite glad that the clothes I had my eye on today are not on this thread. Although am slightly mortified to now add M&S to my 'shops to visit' list. When did that happen? Am I turning into my mother?

floweryblue · 25/08/2010 00:24

lol at Dancing, we all turn into our mothers, however much we swear we won't

childofthe80s · 25/08/2010 11:24

They do have some shockers - particularly in the Per Una section. However, I did find the Maternity section very useful for plain black leggings and a very plain grey cardigan which I wore and wore. It was also a useful place to visit for the first post-baby shopping trip when you are feeling rather dazed and slightly unsure what size you are. I was reasonably sure I wasn't a size 32 or whatever they go up to so quite reassuring.

Also, some of the shops are much worse than others. Regional east midlands where I grew up = shocking whereas for example, Moorgate branch near where I used to work = much better. M and S better than Next overall in my book.

DancingThroughLife · 25/08/2010 12:21

That's reassuring. I've only been a mother for 3 months and didn't want to be starting that slippery slope just yet. Although it's a little unfair to my mother, she's got a better wardrobe than me at the moment.

And we do seem to have some alright stuff in our M&S.

But to enter into the spirit of things: why why why

polyhymnia · 26/08/2010 15:04

Good grief!!!

EdgarAllenPop · 26/08/2010 15:07

surely you have to be over 70 to want to buy sth cotton-rich?

reptile · 09/10/2010 15:19

I've just been to Cribbs Causeway M and S and saw this . It looks even worse off the model, and, if it looks this bad on her, who would it look good on?

It would be great to have a mumsnet interview with M and S clothes designers here. I guess the bottom line is that the clothes sell, but so many of them seem to be gratuitously horrible, I just can't understand it

olderandwider · 09/10/2010 19:40

Gaaaah! My eyes! My eyes!

reptile · 09/10/2010 21:09

good god, that really is vile

moragbellingham · 09/10/2010 21:24

reptile - that looks like something you would wear in the middle of winter to bring the cows in (although prob not very warm).

BTW my M&S delivery arrives on Monday. That's not in it.

reptile · 09/10/2010 23:04

yes, that's just what it looks like - as well as if it's made from 100% acrylic

notsomumsie · 18/10/2010 21:32

Dear God I wouldn't make my four year old wear a jumper with a dog on it. www.marksandspencer.com/Per-Una-Sleeve-Stripe-Knitted/dp/B003U1M9KA?_encoding=UTF8

And dear god is this for trannies (no offence) or what? www.marksandspencer.com/Control-Cotton-Floral-Embroidered-Corselette/dp/B001E92U54?_encoding=UTF8 What and who is it for? Do you put it on in October and wear it until march?

vintage4 · 19/10/2010 12:59

the top looks like their total support bras which are not pretty but brilliant for lifting your boobs"up where we belong" as the Joe Cocker song goes

BeenBeta · 19/10/2010 13:22

When I go in Marks & Spencer (just for food honestly) I always get the feeling its 1971 and I want run around and through the racks of clothes just like when I used to hide from my Mum.

Absolutely nothing has changed except the prices. The colours and styles just scream 1970s. I had a version of this in 1975. The same patches, the same colour, but crew neck.

Its such a shame. I want M&S to be the shop I go in for the basic no brainer purchases. I am a loyal M&S food customer. I like the staff. I even had shares in the company. I just dont want to buy any clothes there - not even socks.

Menagerie · 19/10/2010 16:53

Um, maybe it's just my computer but I think M&S are onto you lot sniggering at them. Every time I try and click on one of your stylish and fashionable Per Una links I get error messages.
And I did so want to see some.
