We haven't poked fun at M&S for ages

I'll start

Abstract indeed. The black mix is particularly...um...abstract.

I need some interview clothes. went to Gap first as they had these "perfect" trousers in the window. And they would be perfect if I was about 7 ft tall.

Then on to M&S. Shock

Various items that send out the message "I so want this job that I threw a new suit into my Tescos trolley along with these Value chicken nuggets and a bottle of Lambrini", loud and clear. Others with bizarre, lingerie inspired trim - either lace or corsettry inspired, the latter being possibly OK if you want to rock a very dilute JPG/Madonna look in the office, but not so great for interview wear.

I did find some OK trousers and some lovely shoes from the Autograph range, but I'm not linking to them because I' m scared of what you lot will say Grin

Meglet · 23/08/2010 18:55

Why do they insist on putting 'fashionable' in all the descriptions? The last time I read Vogue I didn't notice anything like that in there.

Per Una is about 10 years old now IIRC and Zandra Rhodes has been involved in some of the M&S ranges, might explain some of the scary prints.

floweryblue · 23/08/2010 19:37

They don't always put 'fashionable', quite a few of the links we have seen include the word 'stylish'.

FunnyLittleFrog · 23/08/2010 19:44

All their descriptions are produced by a random generator using these words:

applique frill embroidered abstract ditsy print lace waterfall ruffle beaded mock-layer drape corsage floral crochet tiered

Tis true. Grin

i keep coming back to this thread and screaming with laughter. thanks folks!

model looks like she's trying not to laugh

sigh

Rainbowdropping · 23/08/2010 22:10

Genius thread. Have just had to explain to my dp why I've sprayed the lounge with tea - took a slug whilst clicking on the dead sheep gilles and now wiping down his laptop!

BecauseImWorthIt · 23/08/2010 22:21

This is a shocker

They have this style, in various colours, every season.

I had one, when it first came out - but had to get rid of it as it's so bloomin' ubiquitous!

Why do they do it?!

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 23/08/2010 22:25

Sorry about that Rainbow.

sungirltan · 23/08/2010 22:35

becauseimworthit

jesus. i have no words.

wait, except it looks like something from a pattern book from the 70's womans weekly mag

Poking fun at M&S is BAD FORM. It's like poking fun at the Queen Mother - dead or not - it's simply not done.
In defence of the Queen Mother, she did have more of a sense of style than M&S.

They really need to think about their demographic though. I know the food keeps them going, but the clothes are a disaster.

floweryblue · 23/08/2010 22:42

'extra stylish' sungirl, I rest my case

...because you're worth it... Grin

sungirltan · 23/08/2010 22:45

i love m&s food and actually the baby clothes are nice but they need to sort themselves out in ladies wear. we have a flagship store here and the menswear is so organised and sensbile the way its laid out. womenswear is so complicated i could only direct you to where the fascinators are!!

My mother and all of her friends live in Pruner - she's 77, and Joan, Enid, Margaret and Sheila are all around the same age. There must be sparks flying on the free bus to Asda with its nylon seat covers (Norman had them made specially as Eileen's got bladder problems and weed herself on the bus once, but it's alright because she always has a spare pair of drawers in her bag.)

Quite like the purple platforms Blush and used to quite like their shoes, but think they have gone off the boil of late. Footgloves are for people who have given up hope, have bunions or can't get their foot in without a bit of effort and a shoe horn.

floweryblue · 23/08/2010 22:51

I have to say I never even look at the food, too expensive, too over prepared, I tried, I didn't like.

M&S are my default clothing basics starting point, not much choice where I am. My biggest confusion on their distribution though is that at Easter they had a vast array of shorts etc available in Glasgow, a few weeks later (ie in proper spring/summer) we had a choice of about two shorts, in a seaside town!

If anyone from M&S is watching, I could be an assett, I may not be able to spell/type but I do know no-one really likes orange!

MrsSchadenfreude · 23/08/2010 22:53

My mother gave me a "nice polyester scarf" from M & S "Classic" collection for my birthday. Should I just give up hope now?

nannyj · 23/08/2010 22:55

Per Una makes shed loads of money so they ain't gonna change it. Ladieeees of a certain age love it Grin

floweryblue · 23/08/2010 22:57

MrsSchad, the bestest thing about M&S is that you can return without a receipt and cannot cause offence to the gift giver, and they do have some good stuff you can exchange for.

sungirltan · 23/08/2010 22:59

i saw some long black patent gloves in a magazine few winters back and almost ran to m&s to buy them. flipping flagship store didnt have them but they did order them. i have worn them to death and they are tres stylish and fashiony but i think they must have been a style fluke for marksies.

luckily they wont go with this
