Nicotine tests on surgery day

Hey, has anyone had a nicotine test on their surgery day and pass? I was told to stop vaping 4 weeks before and I've not had nicotine for 25 days. Just a bit anxious! Thanks

Never heard of a nicotine test before surgery and part of my job is booking theatres and sending out admission letters. I’ve come across every other test you can think of but not for nicotine. Why would nicotine have a detrimental effect on your operation? Surely it’s the method of ingesting (is that the right word if you’re vaping it?) that they want you to stop. Chewing nicotine gum say would be ok but not smoking it or vaping it?

Nicotine significantly impairs wound healing. Doesn't matter how it's delivered.

I'm no stranger to surgery and I generally chain smoke through nerves up until the point of admission! Obviously doctors always tell me I should quit as a general thing, but I have never been told to quit specifically for a procedure or been tested. You've done really well to stop vaping for 25 days so focus on that achievement - I can't see why the test should say otherwise. Hoping your surgery goes well.

If it’s an orthopaedic surgery they are very strict on no smoking as it means the bone won’t heal. It impedes all other wound healing too.

Never heard this. I vape and vaped up until the night before on all 4 of my replacements and never had a nicotine test.

I’ve had a tonne of surgery and smoke.

I’ve never heard of these tests and to be honest wouldn’t have one anyway.

I've had surgery postponed from the morning slot to the afternoon one as I'd smoked that morning. 25 days since you last vaped won't be an issue.

Thanks for replies
My surgical letter says I need to be free of nicotine for at least 4 weeks and if on the day of surgery I'm positive my surgery will be cancelled. It's elective private surgery x
