Accidentally going cold turkey!

Been mainlining nic for the past 6 months. Smoking occasionally but mostly vape and nic mints. Like a mint every hour or vape every 5 mins.

Run out of money until thurs and no mints. Lost my vape yesterday so nothing since yesterday 8pmish!

Wow - what a ride! Dizzy, slightly nauseous, not mega irritable but mega on edge. Almost feels like mega nervousness all the time!

not going to waste this effort so this is it. Wish me luck!!

Day 2. Sleep was ok last night, but one of my boys woke me up at about 3 and needed a shower, didn’t really fall back into a deep sleep again or at least it didn’t feel like it.

Yesterday eve was ok after work as the kids kept me busy. Sat back at my desk now and it’s raging again, prob 85% of the level it was yesterday….so progress of a sort! Still quite lightheaded which s a little worrying.

Even more determined tho 😀

Well done on getting started! Fingers crossed the symptoms ease off soon.

I am 10 days in, well actually 11 today but I am going from cigs to NRTs. Hoping to stepping stone it over the next few weeks to being totally free Grin

Keep on keeping on! Flowers

Beechview · 24/08/2022 10:44

Keep going. So many positives to giving up. Work out how much money you'll save and put it towards something.

BaruFisher · 24/08/2022 10:44

Good luck to you both.
I did cold turkey last year after almost 30 years as a smoker. I was totally unconvinced that I would make it.
Yet here I am 14 months later with not a cigarette smoked and feeling much better for it.
You can do this- the first couple of months are tough but then it all gets easier.

Another2022 · 24/08/2022 11:32

@JustALittleHelpPlease well done on getting to day 11! NRTs are better than cigs but still addictive. They def break the ciggy habit….think they got me even more addicted to the nic tho 🙄

Finding it quite hard to concentrate on work with ‘the turmoil’ as I’m naming the quit pain!

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 24/08/2022 11:33

Well done you. Keep at it!

JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 11:45

Yes I agree about NRTs and replacing one need with another. I'm definitely trying to use it as a way to break the association to cigs and then I can address the nicotine hunger... my theory is one step at a time but who knows!

Have you got strategies for the turmoil? Pick a task and focus on it for a specific time maybe? All other thoughts aside for 20 minutes then break, acknowledge the turmoil, make a tea or something then pick another task? I don't know you or what might work, I'm definitely a person who responds to bite size chunks of time Grin

JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 11:48

Well done @BaruFisher that's a fantastic achievement!

I was doing the "wait for the right moment" thing having some vague notion that eventually it would just happen by some sort of magic. Then I caught myself on and thought fgs just get on with it, better on the journey than fantasising about some pie in the sky easy route!

Another2022 · 24/08/2022 12:30

@JustALittleHelpPlease I think your theory is sound. The ciggy routines are half the battle! I’m on step 2.

No strategy for dealing with the turmoil, well maybe one. The way I see it the longer and harder it is, the less likely I’ll give up as it would mean it’s all been for nothing IUSWIM? As for the concentration on tasks and not letting t be all consuming…well not sure at the moment. Luckily I’ve got a job with a lot of autonomy so can do less for a few days then work like a daemon for a few to make it up.

OP posts:
JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 12:52

Haha well the job sounds like it can lend itself to the situation, that's a big help :) I totally agree with the pain for gain theory, having gone this far (and tomorrow far and the day after far iyswim) you have greater investment to the cause. I hope you've plotted some sort of reward at the end of all this - I keep looking at holidaysthat I can't afford Grin

Another2022 · 24/08/2022 13:27

Unfortunately any money saved will help balance the books at the moment as I’m struggling to keep out of my savings every month - also good motivation to stop and save a good £50 a month to go towards feeding the kids (and their mates who are always about!).

I’m a runner and have been pretty lax for the past few months, getting back onto it so my reward will, hopefully, be more energy and greater ability when I do get out.

OP posts:
JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 14:59

Well if it helps I've definitely found an increase in both energy and lung capacity (also really enjoying not smelling but that probably doesn't apply if you've been avoiding the cigs for a while now!)

Another2022 · 24/08/2022 15:27

The difference quitting fags is incredible so I’m hoping quitting the vape will be good as well.

My daughter just asked for a lighter for her candle - couldn’t find one but found a load

OP posts:
Another2022 · 24/08/2022 15:27

Bloody phone!

found a load of the mints in a couple

OP posts:
Another2022 · 24/08/2022 15:28

Oh ffs!!!!!

of jacket pockets. Going to keep strong.

OP posts:
JustALittleHelpPlease · 24/08/2022 15:39

😁technology is great isn't it!
I had the same, my daughter was totally thrown that there are no longer lighters in the house. She's happy I'm quitting but a bit put out that has inconvenienced her Grin

Meh, mints can go away for if someone else needs them one day Smile

Minikievs · 24/08/2022 15:50

I'm on the tablets. I probs have one every 90 minutes. I do agree I think I'm more addicted to nicotine now. I never smoked at work. Yet I am sucking Nic mints all bloody day now!
You've inspired me to stop them when the next packet runs out

Another2022 · 24/08/2022 16:16

@Minikievs Im glad my little escapade into withdrawal hell (you’ll be fine haha) has inspired you. You on the 4mg ones or the puny 1mg ones? I switched to the 1mg ones a few months ago as a conscious effort to cut down the nic intake.

Threw away the mints…they were the strong ones too from ages ago, would’ve done me in!

OP posts:
Minikievs · 25/08/2022 08:39

Crappy 1mg ones Grin
Still can't bring myself to throw them away though.....I'll wait til the end of the packet
Well done in chucking yours 🙌🏻

Another2022 · 25/08/2022 12:21

So day three is here and I’m still on course!!

Apparently by now all the evil nic should’ve left my bod and I’m pure again. The turmoil is down again….I’d say 70% of what it was which is good!

Still got the light headedness and new development, a bit of the shits. Not full on Norovirus but certainly a bit eugh. Sorry if TMI!!!

Paid today so gonna go out and get a bit of choc for this eve….maybe a whole nut for the fridge and a caramel for the freezer!

@JustALittleHelpPlease hope you’re still hanging in - you don’t want to go through all this again!

@Minikievs start preparing, you’re in for testing times but it’s doable.

OP posts:
JustALittleHelpPlease · 31/08/2022 10:30

Sorry, I got diverted away for longer than I thought! I'm still going, I must admit the last few days have been tougher going. Are you still on the wagon @Another2022 ?
