Heated tobacco - IQOS

Has anyone tried these? Not necessarily from IQOS, they're just a brand I found on Google.

I used to vape but started smoking again and can't get myself back on the vape for some reason. I've reread the book by Allen Carr, tried patches, gum, a range of different vapes, hypnotherapy, cold turkey... Nothing is doing it for me. I don't seem able to find the willpower at the moment but I desperately need and want to stop.

I suddenly remembered hearing about heated tobacco a while back so I've just googled and found IQOS. You can pay £10 for a trial and if you want to keep the device, you pay an additional £29 for the cheaper one, £69 for the more expensive one. I think the main difference is you have to charge the cheaper one (for 5 mins) after you've inhaled the equivalent of one cigarette, whereas the more expensive one gives you the equivalent of 10 cigarettes before needing a charge.

From what I understand, they're less harmful than normal cigs (but not as good as vaping). Apparently they smell much less than normal cigarettes do, and it works out as approx £5 per pack.

I thought they might be a useful stepping stone to help me get off the cigarettes. I'd love to hear experiences from others who've tried them.

I couldn't wait for a reply and not expecting much traffic at 3am, so I've ordered the 14 day trial for the more expensive/longer lasting charge one. It's next day delivery so I think it should arrive on Sat.

If anyone else is curious then let me know and I'll update the thread once I've tried it out.

I am so desperate to stop smoking. I hate the smell - it never used to bother me but as I gave up for years I really notice it now. I'm really self conscious because smoking is so frowned upon. I try and hide it from my dd because I'm ashamed and I don't want to set a bad example, but it's not easy to hide something that stinks so much! I worry about my health too, particularly during covid. Also it's just sooo expensive and I really can't afford to keep it up!

From what I've read so far there obviously is some kind of smell but it says it doesn't linger and isn't as strong. Plus no ash and no smoke, I think it might be more of a vapour like you get with a vape.

Fingers crossed it works out as I don't know what else I can try after this! I know there's that champax(sp) stuff but I have had mental health issues in the past, and there are quite serious mental health issues in my family, so I was always too scared to try it. If the heated tobacco thing doesn't work then I might go for it as a last resort, but I'd really rather not.

Hi, OP. I do smoke IQOS. Thing is, you're not quitting smoking. Iqos still has nicotine. It doesn't have a lot of harmful stuff that usual cigarettes have, but addiction to nicotine is real too.

readingismycardio · 15/01/2021 04:10

There is a smell, not too pleasant tbh, but perhaps not as bad as usual smoke

BaggoMcoys · 15/01/2021 05:35

Yeah hopefully not as bad as normal cigs! The main test for me will be how much it makes my hair smell.

It says it doesn't produce smoke, I thought it was more of a vapour type thing like you get with a vape?

I am not too bothered about nicotine addiction itself, it's more the other stuff in cigs and the associated health risks, plus the smell and cost. When I used my vape I was on the 0% nicotine for the majority of the time. My long term plan is to go back on the vape and get back to 0% again. Although, if I am getting on well with heated tobacco and it doesn't smell too badly, I won't mind sticking with that. My aim right now is anything but proper smoking!

I've never heard of them but would be interested to hear how you get on.
