My dad passed away in March and as a result I started smoking again, having previously given up in 2012.

I'm really struggling here, I just feel like I've let myself down and I'm back to the way I was before. Has anyone else been in a similar boat?

I don’t smoke but my Mum ended up in a similar situation after her Mum died. She did manage to give up again but only after some very serious health issues due to smoking.

I would suggest you think of it not as starting smoking again but as a temporary blip on the road to stopping smoking. Write down a list of things that helps you stop smoking and all the benefits you have seen to stop smoking. You have giving up smoking you just need a push to keep up with the giving up.

Look at Jason vale stop smoking app. It’s really working well for me at the moment. I have no desire to smoke.
I’m so sorry about your dad.

Hugs to you. I’ve only managed to quit successfully once, lasted a whole year, and the restarted under similar circumstances.

Started out with one here or there, then a pack of 10 every few days, until I was back on 20 a day.

Don’t beat yourself up, just know that the sooner you quit, the easier it will be. Tell yourself you’re not buying any more, this is it and stick to it. You can do it. I really need to quit but under huge stress right now and it’s so hard, so I really sympathise

Sorry to hear about what you're going through too SinkGirl. hugs

If you want a quit buddy I’m here! I’m on day 4.

TrippingTheVelvet · 07/06/2018 19:45

I'd happily be a buddy too! I had done 3 months and then my DDad passed away too. I really really want to stop though.

There was a thread a month or so ago where the OP asked for smoking horror stories as an aid to giving up - it was a really moving and powerful thread so well worth looking up. You've done it before, you can do it again.

Started smoking again last year after 14 years after leaving EA ex. I will stop again but not ready to do so right now. My nerves are shot. Feel crap about it though. Can't believe I started again. It wasn't part of my life anymore and now it's like it's never been away.
