Moving to vaping

I've tried a vape a few times before without really wanting to switch from cigs to vapes, just feeling like I should do. This time, I really, really want it to work. I've just re- started c25k and need to be able to breathe if I want to complete the programme this time!

My new vape, this mini mod arrived earlier. I've charged it, filled it up with 12mg menthol liquid (because I smoke menthol filter tips) and it seems pretty good. More powerful than I thought it would be from the size!

I know I need to give myself a bit of time to get used to it. How long does it take until the urge to just roll and smoke a cig goes away? I'll be 37 soon and started smoking aged 11 so smoking has been part of my life for a long, long time. When does it stop feeling like you're depriving yourself?

I picked up my first ecig on a Monday and had my last tobacco cigarette on the Thursday and I smoked 20 p/day for 35 years.
I didn't mean to quit though, I just wanted to get down to 10 p/day. Cut down by 5 a day using the ecig and found it so easy I carried on and haven't felt the urge for a real cigarette since I switched, 6 years ago.
Actually found the last packet I ever bought in an old coat pocket with 15 fags still in it a couple of years ago, completely forgotten about.

I quit with a vape two weeks ago. I had it for a week or so before and had quit previously with a cheap and cheerful vape... that didn't last.
The two weeks have been ok except tonight where I'm really struggling. I found finding a good liquid helps. Vampire vape Heisenberg is brilliant

Reginald I'm interested to know what product you used to help you leave the fags behind. Was it one of the older type ecigs that look like a cig with a nicotine cylinder thingy attached or one of the newer giant glass vapers?

It was a huge disposable cigalike, pretty basic considering what we have now but I just "got it". Then I went to smaller cigalikes with the cartridges, Sky (now Blu) then 10 motives and now I've got a penguin and a few rebuildable tanks with variable wattage mods.

I walked in to a vape shop and got a pen set up. I set myself a challengr of not smoking that day, then again the next and so on.

That was 3 years ago. For about 6 months I had the half pack of cigerettes I had in my bag when I walked in to that shop, but I haven't had one since.

Should only take a week or so before you wont want to go back. I use the aspire breeze - nice discrete and no big clouds. I have 2 as the battery doesn't last that long.

The hardest was the first few days as i coughed a lot but no problem after that.

I actually tried to smoke a cigarette after about 2 month after a few drinks and i was sick. Its so disgusting

Well I have a vape and now I moved to no nicotine for over a week now - so now am trying to give up the vape completely - have been 'giving up' smoking for over 30 years (sometimes for years at a time) - but I have quit now! I may hang on to a vape though for years - but am ok with that!

kimlo · 27/05/2018 11:08

dora how did you find the move to 0? I'm on 3 at the moment, and I have been meaning to go to 0 for ages, but I lack the courage.

I'm thinking about mixing 0 and 3 for a while but that just seems like a faff.

DoraJar · 27/05/2018 12:53

@Kimlo - I mixed the 0 nicotine menthol in with the lowest menthol nicotine and just gradually swapped from 80/20 to 0 nicotine over about 2 weeks or so (I was a bit grouchy the second week as got close to 0 - but knew why so pushed through!) - then realised after a few days on 0 nicotine felt ok. Went out (out!) yesterday - no vape and surrounded by others smoking at an open air roof-top bar and was fine - didn't miss smoking and didn't crave one at all! It is worth the faff to be completely fag free imo! I have also downloaded the smoke free app and am going to concentrate on what to spend all my saved money! Good luck

kimlo · 27/05/2018 12:54

thanks, next time I put an order in I think I'll try mixing the 3 with the 0 then.

DoraJar · 27/05/2018 12:55

Actually my most recent (final) motivation was reading on MN someone saying they were 'quitting' not just 'giving up' and this seemed to also finally motivate me to quit for good - not the usual 'giving up' - a mode I have been in for far to long!

Thanks Reginald.
