OK, so a few folk suggested that a thread on mixing your own juice would be helpful. I'm no expert, but have been mixing my own for about a year.

Basics, you will need,
Nicotine base (I get mine from local vape shop, 72mg)
PG (again I get mine from local vape shop)
VG (from Boots)
Flavourings ( I use t juice ready mixed concentrates, there are hundreds of others available e.g. capella, flavour art, cupcake world). Make sure your flavour is suitable for vaping, no oil based ones)
Bottles
Syringe
Glass of water for cleaning syringe
Kitchen roll (for mopping up any spillage)

When I started I bought a kit from alchemist cupboard www.thealchemistscupboard.co.uk/DIY,_Mixing,_Flavours,_Nic,_Etc/cat1708885_1667536.aspx

I use the mix calculator on all about ecigs . allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/page/calculator

You just need to enter the details in the calculator and it will tell you how much of each ingredient you need

The amount of flavouring you need depends on the brand and your own personal taste. I do t juice at 15 - 20 %

Just pick a time to mix when the kids are in bed so they don't distract you and the risk of spillage is less.

I think some people recommend wearing gloves, but I've never bothered and haven't spilt anything yet.

I just use a 10ml syringe for mixing 30 ml batches, I'm not really that accurate!

T juice doesn't need much steeping, and is pretty much ready to vape when it's mixed. Others benefit from some time - from a couple of days to a few weeks.

Store your nic base carefully and out of reach of kids out pets.

Am sure that other folk will have lots of tips, and no doubt we'll be able to share some recipes??

Happy mixing!

I would recommend playing around with the PG / VG mix - I found too much PG made me a little tight chested so I now mix 80% VG, 20% VG. Remember that the VG gives the vapour, the PG carries the flavour and gives you the throat hit.

Different flavours vary wildly on how much you need - I use Menthol at around 15%, but DH uses a tobacco flavour which only needs 2-3%, otherwise it becomes very overpowering. He also uses a couple of drops of a flavour enhancer which takes out some of the sweetness.

Some of the High Street vape shops now have the mix your own ingredients, otherwise can personally recommend Flavour Art, which I have used loads of times without any problems.

If you buy pre-blended flavours, you can use straight away (e.g. if you buy a pre-mixed "Apple Pie" flavour). If you want to blend your own, it will definitely benefit from a few weeks steeping. Lots of the sites that sell the flavours will have recipes and instructions.

It's definitely worth doing though, I have saved £££!

I tend to mix at 60/40 VG/pg.

Oh brilliant, thanks gin and Centre - really clear advice. I need to do some decluttering before I take up mixing. How long does the nic base keep for?

ginmakesitallok · 01/04/2015 21:15

No idea pubes! Some folk keep theirs in the freezer, I just buy smallish quantities which I use up in about 6 months.
