I badly want to quit smoking and start vaping, but have no clue where to begin

As the title says, I want to quit smoking. I am 38 years old and have been smoking since I was 14. :/ It started out light less than a pack a day, but since a few years (6) now i am smoking close to 2 packs a day. I think the main reason I smoke is boredom, not that I do not have plenty of things to do oddly, but when at my desk here my ciggs are right near me, so I light up pretty frequently. The second trigger for me would be because I find it provides relief from stress, stress being chronic pain.
I have tried a few times over the years to quit, but only ever managed to last at max a month before going back to ciggs.
I have tried, cold turkey, patches, gum and the last thing I tried was an e-cigg which was supposed to equal 3 packs, but felt it did nothing for me.
A friend suggested vaping to me and I liked the idea of it, but I have no clue where to begin. The one thing I do know is I would like to buy my products online and they need to be able to be shipped to Germany, where I am currently living.
Can anyone shed some light?

wow you're doing really well, congratulations! Flowers

For someone who smoked as many as you I'd recommend at least 18mg. Throat irritation is common at first, it usually goes after a short while. Drink plenty of water. Most of the 'throat hit' comes from the amount of propylene glycol (PG) vs. vegetable glycerine (VG) in the liquid. If you're finding it too harsh you might do better with a VG based liquid.

Doing good here, still smoking a bit along with the vaping, but I find i crave the vaping more now than the cigs! Think I already killed my first two coils though, flavours are not as strong as the first days, but then I have some taste issues leftover from antibiotics, but that's a whole other story. :p

I ordered some Glass Evods for now until I fully quit smoking. I really badly just wanted to say F**K it and buy the Vision Spinner II and Nautilus Mini, but decided no no will wait till I have quit to do so, so it will be even more rewarding. :D

Can I ask a question on your thread? I too want to give up and am totally clueless... Have tried one of the first ecigs a couple of years ago and they were sweet tasting and gave me palpitations Confused

I smoke 2-5 roll ups each day, which I make with drum gold and filters. Is there anything out there which tastes like lovely, smoky roll ups? I don't want a fake cigarette, but am absolutely clueless.

Sorry to hijack OP Smile

I think many of the e-cigs produced years ago were cheap piles of shit, many of them still are today. Heart palpations is something i have heard from others as well who tried them years ago. They have a lot of horrible additives to them. I got one free in something i ordered a few days ago, tried it again and coughed like hell. Honestly due to my experience with them years ago I really wondered what method i would try next to stop smoking. So glad my friend mentioned her experience with vaping and tools.

I read a lot in the past week with regard to tobacco flavors and vaping and of course nothing is going to come to that exact taste because there are more things that go in to cigs (esp un-natural) than e-liquids, however there are ones that will come close. You have try different things to you find one that works for you and once you do it will be easy as pie to switch over.

starsandunicorns · 17/01/2015 21:34

I had a ecig a few years and gave up after a week but this time I nearly cracked it like op has said you start to like the vaping taste you get the nictonie in a different way my dh got his this morning as is doing OK only had about 10 cigs by now normally he is on a second packet

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/01/2015 11:01

tethersend sadly there is nothing that will taste just like lovely smokey roll ups, mostly because you can't replicate the taste of burning.

I've tried a few Hangsen tobacco flavours:

Ancient - very sweet
Desert Ship - nasty undertones of dung
Gold and Silver - not bad, not too sweet
RY1 - good, not too sweet
RY4 - lovely tobacco / caramel / vanilla blend
RY5 - very sweet
RY6 - tastes of french fags. A bit much on its own but good mixed with RY4
USA Mix - not bad, not too sweet
Storm - very nasty, DH said I smelt like 'a pissy tramp'

I buy a lot from Premier. RY5, RY6 and Storm are in the 'Premium' section and cost £2.50/10ml, the rest cost £2/10ml.

Flavour is a very subjective thing and you'll probably try lots of flavours before you settle on a few you like. You'll also probably surprise yourself by liking flavours which are nothing to do with tobacco. You could do worse than buy a few £1 eliquids in different sorts of flavours.

If you only smoke 2-5 a day you should do fine on 12mg.

What about kit? Have you seen anything that you're thinking of buying?

tethersend I smoked golden virginia rollies for many, many years & am now over two years free of them.

I vape 12mg tobacco flavour (I don't like any of the other flavours) & my favourite, that I sue the whole times is:

The Sherlock from ecigwizard.

You can order on line from them & they do have shops where I know you can try most of the flavours.

How you doing op Smile

mawinter · 23/01/2015 07:37

I'm doing good! Still have the urge for a fag here or there, but the most I can go without one is 10 hours! Today I am going to try allowing myself one after meals and before bedtime only. By next weeks end, I hope to be off them completely!

How are you doing?

I had ordered some spare batteries too. They arrived yesterday, but unfortunately i was out and nobody in the building took my package for me. Bit annoyed on that one as I always take packages for people when they are out and about. :|

Yes, that is lucky!
I placed another order very late last night through another company and figured they would take until Tuesday to send it, nope got a shipment notification this morning that it will arrive tomorrow instead. Just fabulous, as I will be out and about again. :/
That is great news on the cigs! Well done!

WenstonMum · 14/02/2015 06:43

I quit for my baby. After a few test, I'm fond of vaping. To get device and w-juice is a wise choice for many states began to ban the salement of e-cig which I think a stupid and reckless move. And I begin to vape with a starter kit named vapeonly, quite durable and cost-effective. Hope it could help you out!

HellKitty · 14/02/2015 06:46

Just marking my place!
Me and DP are totally going to go for these.
