No more smoking for me anymore. I don't want to vape, I just want to stop. I have a 1 year old dd who I want to be healthy for. I want to not be so skint, and I'm sure not spending £4.10 a day on fags will help towards that!

I had my last cigarette at around 6pm last night and have been fine until now. This is when I have finished my jobs and sit down with a coffee to relax for 10 minutes. I always make coffee, go have cigarette, come back and coffee is cool enough to drink.
I need to quit this time. New year, new me.

I know! I feel like a patch would really benefit me. Are they worth £10 a pack though?Shock

FATEdestiny · 10/01/2015 17:06

FourAndDone - If you contact your local NHS stop smoking service (ask your doctor) you qualify for four weeks worth of nicotine replacement therapy, in two fortnightly vouchers, for the cost of a prescription charge. A prescription charge is £8.

So how is everyone going?

What have you been doing today to distract yourself? Baking, cooking, cleaning, crosswords, knitting, cross-stitch, Sudoku, or just running after the kids? Grin

CigarettesCanKill · 10/01/2015 17:56

Oh yeah, I know the one. That's fantastic for him. Hope he wins!

CigarettesCanKill · 11/01/2015 07:27

Had a slip up yesterday and smoked 4 cigarettes but threw the rest of the packet away. that progress as I would never throw a mostly full packet away before. I'm not letting it beat me though. today is a new day and I shall start again.

OP posts:
FourAndDone · 11/01/2015 08:00

Cigarette, iv slipped up too.Sad
I am buying some patches today and starting fresh on Monday.
Well done for throwing that pack away!!Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/01/2015 09:46

Well done! You both sound really positive in spite of your slip-ups. You'll get there, just keep counting the ones you haven't smoked.

Make sure you're using enough NRT. Current advice is to use as much as you need for as long as necessary and to use two types together if you are still craving badly. In addition to your patches you might want to try a fast-acting NRT like the inhalator or spray (or an ecig Smile) just for when you're struggling.

CigarettesCanKill · 11/01/2015 10:29

to be honest I wasn't massively struggling when I brought them. I was having some me time in town and sort of brought them and smoked the first one out of habit before I had realised. same again with the other 3. threw the pack away because I didn't need them. They made me feel sick.

CigarettesCanKill · 12/01/2015 20:44

CigarettesCanKill · 12/01/2015 20:45

Great news four glad you're doing well. it really helps that we have had horrible freezing cold wind and rain here. I couldn't be any less inclined to go stand outside Grin

OP posts:
CigarettesCanKill · 12/01/2015 20:46

Oh and the patches give me crazy dreams so took it off last night and slept fine so worth considering four I just put my patch on when I went downstairs with dd in the morning.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 12/01/2015 20:51

Whoop! Whoop!

I had real trouble sleeping in the first few days I gave up (not using patches though, I used lozenges). I think it was basically down to nicotine withdrawal for me. For a time I used to take a lozenge or two through the night.

You get stuck between a rock and a hard place though - the withdrawal keeps you awake or the nicotine replacement keeps you awake. Either way I didn't sleep well for the first week or two of giving up smoking.

CigarettesCanKill · 12/01/2015 21:07

well i never get to sleep much anyway fate dd makes sure of that Grin

CigarettesCanKill · 13/01/2015 07:41

hello catmint

here we go with day 5. I have a weird feeling of dread today. No idea why thoughConfused

OP posts:
Catmint · 13/01/2015 08:15

You are doing so, so well.

Weird feeling of dread might be stress, especially if you are worried about falling off the wagon.

If you do, just get back on.
