No more smoking for me anymore. I don't want to vape, I just want to stop. I have a 1 year old dd who I want to be healthy for. I want to not be so skint, and I'm sure not spending £4.10 a day on fags will help towards that!

I had my last cigarette at around 6pm last night and have been fine until now. This is when I have finished my jobs and sit down with a coffee to relax for 10 minutes. I always make coffee, go have cigarette, come back and coffee is cool enough to drink.
I need to quit this time. New year, new me.

Do something, don't just sit and wait for the craving to go away.

Distract, distract, distract

I read a lot in the first few days giving up smoking. Or do crosswords/sedoko etc. That puts a pen in your hand and also distracts you.

Frozen grapes?!

Frozen banana I know make a great smoothie. But not sure about a grape smoothie. Let us know what you decide to do with them.

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 11:56

Not for a smoothie. just to eat! they're delicious. the outside is hard but the middle is soft and crunchy. I portion a bunch of grapes up into pots and put them in the freezer to snack on. gives you a nice sweet crunchy snack Grin

had my last cigarette at around 7 last night so I'm 17 hours smoke free Grin

17 hours, that is amazing! Have you done that long before?

Might have to try frozen grapes. Through three of my pregnancies I had ice crunching cravings, so I do have a tendency towards cold crunchy stuff.

Well done cigarettesCanKill

I started again, but trying again today, last cig at 11pm last night so 13 hours. No cravings yet but dreading tonight.

FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 12:13

Well done EnterNicknameHere. 13 hours is no mean feat.

Have you got some form on nicotine replacement to use?

If you feel at any point like you are going to break and go and buy some cigarettes, go to the chemists instead and buy some nicotine replacement. Better to get your nicotine kick from that than from a cigarette.

EnterNicknameHere · 09/01/2015 12:25

I haven't got any nicotine replacement no. But yes if I need too I will buy some, it's worth a try.

I'm avoiding all shops today. I will pass one when I collect my DC but I am NOT going to take any cash or cards with me!

EnterNicknameHere · 09/01/2015 12:28

poltergoose sorry I have only just seen your reply on this thread. That is exactly it, it's a break and a reason to escape for just 5 minutes. That's the bit that's hard to break. I don't think in my case it's the nicotine craving that's bad, it's the habit.

Its good to hear you managed to quit smoking! Gives me hope Grin

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 12:30

i quit for my entire pregnancy last time but 17 hours is probably the longest time in latest attempts.
trying to get dd to nap but she's having none of it. This is when I usually step outside for a quick smoke and to regain my composure and not shout at her. I'm pretty stressed out right now Sad

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 12:41

You can still go outside if you need to.

Do some deep breathing, this will calm you down and also mimic the relaxing breathing you do when smoking. Just do it without a cigarette to suck on. Breath in the fresh air for 10 minutes. It is much better for you.

FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 12:43

.. pull some weeds up or something while you are out there, to distract your mind.

Enter - cold turkey is hard, you must be a very strong willed person.

Keep it going!

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 12:59

did it! got dd to nap. first time in weeks she's not screamed for an hour before hand. 18 hours smoke free. having home made chilli tomato soup to celebrate Grin

OP posts:
CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 13:01

enter I have tried and failed so many times going cold turkey so good luck to you! I hope you can do it. It's bloody hard!

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 14:50

Coming up to 20 hours smoke free OP, well done! Hope you enjoyed your soup.

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 15:35

I did enjoy my soup thank you. Had another craving so prepped the vegetables for tea. decided we're having stir fry because that involved the most chopping Grin

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 15:45

Your cooking has reminded me - when I gave up I started baking cakes. My DH and kids loved it! For several weeks I would bake something every day, to distract myself. I'd forgotten about that.

Enjoy your stir fry

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 16:35

arghhhhhh I want a cigarette so bad right now Sad finished dinner as I ate with dd because dp is working late and I always have a cigarette after dinner. Sad

OP posts:
FourAndDone · 09/01/2015 17:30

I'm worried about this evening. Kids will be in bed at 7 and dh not home until late.
I need to find something to keep me busy!!

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 18:13

I was thinking the same thing four dd is in bed now (well wailing her head off and is supposed to be asleep) and dp isn't back until 8.30. I think I might start a new knitting project.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 09/01/2015 20:32

Knitting is a fantastic idea!

Imagine how proud of yourself you will be tomorrow after a full day not smoking.

Well done the both of you. The first day is a massive, massive achievement.

CigarettesCanKill · 09/01/2015 20:59

29 hours smoke free! having a takeaway to celebrate because I'm starving. probably shouldn't have eaten my dinner at 4pm...Grin

i love knitting. currently trying to get the hang of crocheting so I'll use that to keep me busy in the evenings

OP posts:
FourAndDone · 10/01/2015 07:45

Day two! Woohoo. Felt very teary last night, not sure if that was due to needing a cig or being emotional from pregnancy.Grin
Feeling great, I never managed to quoting my other pregnancies. But my willpower feels extra strong this time around!!Smile

FATEdestiny · 10/01/2015 09:08

Well done everyone who's still given up today. I'm out for the day but will catch up later.

Good luck. Stay distracted.

FourAndDone · 10/01/2015 09:37
