Am vaping but still smoking! :(

So I bought an e cig last year. It's good and I have a nice vanilla liquid but I'm finding I still want to smoke 'real' cigarettes. In fact sometimes I want to smoke more because you can vape in places where you can't smoke which seems to have increased my desire to smoke fags!

I'm doing it wrong aren't I?

Has anyone else had this problem?

What strength liquid are you using?

Scarletohello · 08/07/2014 00:30

I'm not sure but the last time I bought some it was an increase in strength from my first lot.

Does it not say on the bottle?

You might need to up the strength a bit. It's hard for me to advise because I quit pretty much instantly. Quite a few people dual fuel for a while though. Advice is usually to vape as much as you want and to cut the fags out one at a time. Also keep fags somewhere less handy than the ecig so it's effort to have a fag. Don't forget to always count the fags you don't smoke, not the ones you do. If you can manage not smoke for a couple of weeks you will probably find they taste foul, at which point you have cracked it.

I tend to vape during the day and smoke in the evening, especially with a drink. For me the problem is that vaping still keeps the hand to mouth habit going whereas when I've tried to stop before, eventually you forget about fags. ( until you give in of course...)

I had the same problems vaping minty flavours.

Went for a higher nicotine and tobacco flavours, and its been good enough since. I still think I vape more than I ever smoked though.

You could try setting a time in the evening when you are allowed to smoke and then gradually make it later and later. Also changing flavours can help when you are craving.

Yeah you still have the hand to mouth thing ... It's odd, I don't associate that with smoking at all any more, it's a vaping thing.

Scarlet I dual fuelled for a fair long time before finally giving up completely (21 weeks fag free and counting Grin ). As Plenty suggests, one of my biggest helps was keeping the fags in a room I would have no reason to go into whereas the e-cig would be next to me all the time; I would have to be sure that it was a real cigarette I wanted rather than "habit" smoking. The last 2 stinkies a day took forever for me to lose, a good couple of months, which I know was purely psychological.

Flavours had a fair bit to do with it too, I swap flavours throughout the day & would use a stronger flavour like a tobacco one when I was getting a fag craving which helped. Vanilla is a lovely flavour, but so different to what your brain is used to experiencing when smoking so may not satisfy that aspect.

Another thing to consider is vaping patterns. Many new vapers are concerned that they are vaping far more than they used to smoke, but actually the nicotine gets absorbed very differently into the body so it takes a lot longer for the nicotine levels to rise. What you're probably missing is that almost instant nicotine hit, the "aaah" moment, you get with fags; you won't really get that as much with a e-cig so you need to keep the nicotine levels topped up over time iyswim?

Polter, I feel the same, I don't think I've given anything up, I feel that by vaping I've gained so much. I still get my nicotine, but I'm healthier, I don't wheeze at night, I've got more money, I don't stink any more, I don't feel like a social leper, I see more of my kids, I've gotten back my sense of smell, it's great!!!
