Can anyone recommend a starter kit?

There is a vape shop not too far from me, but I have no idea what I'll be looking for! Blush

I would recommend this:

myepack.co.uk/kits/evod-starter-kit-929.html

It has everything you need to get started :) There are 2 batteries (its always good to have a spare for charging purposes.

You need to buy liquid, it come in different strengths, how much do you smoke currently?

Allergictoironing · 01/07/2014 21:03

As you do have a vaping shop nearby Envy your best bet would be go there & ask them for advice. Yes the kit will cost you a bit more than the same one on line, but getting first hand advice & being shown how to do stuff (like fill clearos) is invaluable.

Depending on the shop, and assuming that it's any good, they should stock a range of kits and spares/accessories. they should also let you try out some of it and a few different flavours.

The EVOD starter kit that ineedausername has linked to is one of the best overall value kits out these for a combination of price & quality, so it may be worth getting that then taking it in to the vape shop with you & buy liquid from them with a side order of advice Grin.

ineedausername · 01/07/2014 21:06

I wish I had a decent shop nearby :(

magimedi · 02/07/2014 07:49

I would aldo say to go to your local shop. Being shown how to fill the tank, change the wick etc is really worth the couple of extra £ you will be charged.

And most decent vape shops will let you have a taste of some liquids before you buy.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

AnonButRegular · 02/07/2014 11:47

Thanks for your replies and recommendations Smile

I have spoken to the shop briefly on FB and they have said that a starter small battery kit is £25 and that liquids are £6 - are these average prices?

What flavour liquids do people generally start with? I'm smoking roughly 20 a day, would I be able to go for the 0 nicotine straight away do you think?

OP posts:
Allergictoironing · 02/07/2014 12:27

OK that seems a tad on the expensive side considering that the Myepack setup ineedausername recommended above has more than double that for under £30 - though bear in mind that your local shop has bricks & mortar expenses that the on-line shops don't have.

What value the liquid is depends on the bottle size & also which brand it is - if those are 10ml bottles then that's quite a good mark-up for them unless it's a very specialist make.

What might be worth doing is buying your kit on-line then going into the shop telling them you've been given it & can they show you the ropes. Get a bottle or two of liquid off them (they should let you try out a few flavours) then branch out into getting less expensive liquids on line once you're sure you've got a handle on it.

Definitely do NOT go for 0% straight away, around 18% should be closer. The very VERY rough rule of thumb is that a typical 20 a day smoker usually uses on average around 20ml of 18mg liquid per week once they are settled into vaping (tends to start out as bit higher). Note that I've hedged everything above using words like "typical", "average" and "usually"; this is because everyone is different.

Remember that nicotine is absorbed very differently and at different rates than from smoking, so no point in comparing nicotine levels on fag packets to the nicotine levels in liquids. You can always cut down the nicotine levels over time - and that has a better "feel good!" factor than the potential failure feelings you might get if you need to up the levels Wink.

Allergictoironing, thanks, great advice.

So I went to the London Vapour Company in Ealing. Teeny tiny shop! The lady was lovely, very knowledgeable and helpful. She let me try lots of flavours of the liquid and I came out with a small battery starter kit, a smooth tobacco liquid and a watermelon liquid as well as a spare tank (?). She filled it up for me and I was able to walk out ready to go.

Now that I've seen stuff and know what I'm looking for I'm more confident to order online, but will definitely go back to the shop as it's not far from me.

Haven't had a ciggie since 11.30am Grin

Well done!!!

Allergictoironing · 02/07/2014 16:59

I'm not surprised the shop is tiny - rent & rates in London are terrifyingly high for anything larger than a cupboard; but luckily all the stock in a Vape shop is pretty small so they shouldn't need too much space.

Had a quick look at them on line - small range so far but I'd guess they'll increase it as time goes by. The e-cig looks like a standard eGo battery with a CE4 clearo/tank (they call it a C1). The rebuildable clearos they call C4 look like the ubiquitous GS-H2 that I and many others here use - you can buy those on-line for about £2 each on E-Bay and the replaceable coils for even less.

The great thing about using a standard eGo style battery is that you can get compatible batteries & clearos all over the place, and some are rather pretty e.g. the Vision Spinner in Rainbow colour

ineedausername · 02/07/2014 18:26

I love my rainbow vision spinner with a pink cheapo tank on it :)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 02/07/2014 20:15

Well done Anon! Flowers

Today I am using a pink GS-H2 on top of my well 'ard scuffed up black MVP and it looks the business not Grin

Did you get 2 batteries? If not (you really really need two batteries), consider one of these - very good value for £8. You get 2 x iclear16 clearos with it which produce a LOT of vapour. Along with the evod kit in ineed's first post, it's my best recommendation for new vapers.

The GS-H2's everyone talks about can be bought on ebay here. It's a bit of a cat and mouse game buying vaping gear from ebay - because of their stupid rules, listings get taken down frequently. There are also a lot of poor quality fakes about. This seller is good and reliable so take a note of the seller name in case this particular listing gets taken down. It's probably worth getting a few to start with while you are trying lots of different flavours. It saves a lot of washing up.

I get most of my liquids from Premier ecigs at £2/10ml. They do a vast range of flavours. They're not the poshest on the market but are good for working out the kind of flavours you like.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 02/07/2014 20:21

And definitely what allergic said about nicotine levels. The time to think about reducing nicotine is when you are well and truly over the smoking habit (and only then if you want to - nicotine on its own is no more harmful than caffeine).

Most of us seem to discover we are well and truly over the smoking habit when, a few weeks in, we think 'ah bollox I'm having a fag' and find it tastes completely rank Envy

velouria · 21/07/2014 13:02

damn this thread just bought a vision spinner and iclear 16, so suggestible Grin. But in fairness I would like something smaller than mvp or vamo to take out.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/07/2014 20:00

Is it a rainbow spinner though velouria? Because if it isn't you will have to get one of those as well (and if it is then surely you want a lovely sleek and neutral stainless steel jobby as well, for more sophisticated occasions Wink).

Allergictoironing · 21/07/2014 20:31

No no no Plenty - the really sophisticated version is the eGo-C twist in blood red sort of rubber/velvet type effect. Grin

velouria · 22/07/2014 16:22

#Of course it's rainbow, just has to be surely Grin. Although was tempted by the newer ones but they didn't come in rainbow Sad. Also got a mini protank and some hs2's because I only have 1 vivi nova and its getting on my nerves.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/07/2014 17:44

So you'll be needing a stainless steel one too - and a ruby red rubber one Grin

ineedausername · 22/07/2014 19:45

i love my rainbow one, its easy to match with all my different coloured cheapo tanks and my mini-protanks :)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/07/2014 20:03

ineed, see here Grin
