Vaping Tips, Tricks and Dodgy Sellers

I currently don't have tips or tricks but felt I couldn't make a thread just about a dodgy seller!

Totally Vapour is a company operating online and within Birmingham. They have decent stop but they are expensive and today I've also found out the man who claims to own the company is a bullshitter. Oh, sure, he probably knows his stuff inside out, but he certainly doesn't have the customer's needs at heart, he just wants to line his pockets.

I asked to purchase a nicotine base in a 50ml size. He said they didn't do that size, only 100ml. I told him I'd found it on his website. Magically he procured one and claimed it was the last one in stock. Hmm. He said I couldn't buy it without a diluent. I told him I wasn't going to mix my own. Before he gave me the chance to explain he was swiping it away mouthing off about how I couldn't vape it neat.

My plan was to use a tiny drop of it just to strengthen the pre mixed liquids I already had. I figured it was a lot cheaper, at £25 a bottle, to purchase nicotine free mixtures and strengthen it myself. I don't know if it's possible to do it that way so I asked him if I could. He muttered some junk about using a drop or two.

I asked why his nicotine free mixtures were the same price as the ones containing nicotine when other traders tend to sell them cheaper. He claimed that he was forced to sell them at the same price by his supplier (Totally Wicked).

Finally after spending £48 there, we were presented with a 50p charge for paying with a card, which most retailers absorb via the cost of the goods sold. When I enquired as to why he added the charge, he babbled some shit about how a corner shop does the same unless you spend over a fiver. I pointed out I'd spent far more than a fiver.

Basically I'm saying watch out for this man as he just wants your money not your faith.

That all sounds a bit shoddy. To be fair though he probably is tied on prices by Totally Wicked.

Here's a mixing formula:

(Ax + By) / (x + y) = C

A = first strength
B = second strength
C = target strength

x and y are the relative quantities to mix

So, if I remember right, you have 14mg and you want 18mg. Your base liquid is 72mg ...

(Ax + By) / (x + y) = C

(14x + 72y) / (x + y) = 18

14x + 72y = 18(x + y)

14x + 72y = 18x + 18y

72y - 18y = 18x - 14x

54y = 4x

13.5y = x

So: When y = 1, x = 13.5

... i.e. for every 1ml of base liquid, add 13.5ml of 14mg liquid. The easiest way would be to get an empty 30ml bottle, put in 2ml of base and 27ml of 14mg juice to make 29ml of 18mg juice.

It would actually be far easier to mix your 14mg with 24mg liquid in the same flavour:

(Ax + By) / (x + y) = C

(14x + 24y) / (x + y) = 18

14x + 24y = 18(x + y)

14x + 24y = 18x + 18y

24y - 18y = 18x - 14x

6y = 4x

1.5y = x

So: When y = 1, x = 1.5

i.e. for every 1ml of 24mg, add 1.5ml of 14mg. Just mix 6ml of 14mg with 4ml of 24mg in an empty 10ml bottle.

If you want to get into mixing, it would be better to buy plain PG, VG, nicotine base and flavour concentrates. That way you wouldn't lose flavour by mixing the nic base with pre-mixed 0nic juices. I don't mix my own as I don't have the space but I think one or two MN vapers are mixing. There are lots of websites with recipes and juice calculators.

Brilliant, thanks for that! So far I've tried putting one drop (equivalent roughly to 0.05ml I think) directly into my ecig which holds approx 1.1ml and I don't know what the strength is now, but I'm satisfied with it. I don't think it's done much to the flavour, although that was quite weak to begin with.

We may mix our own in the future as we are quite into this vaping thing now and could do with saving money.

Just remember that you'll be diluting the flavour of your premixed liquid.

Boomerwang · 25/06/2014 14:47

Yes I've noticed the flavour isn't that strong, and the 'blagh' taste from the nicotine is stronger so it's not as nice as before. I need to try a few times I think.

You could try getting some plain flavourings & adding a few drops to the bottle to make up for that?

Allergictoironing · 25/06/2014 15:13

By plain I meant just the food flavourings, available from a few different on line vaping shops. the kind for when you mix your own

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 25/06/2014 15:51

The more I think about this the more concerned I am Boomer. If you are mixing drop by drop in the ecig itself you are at increased risk of:

  • getting the proportions wrong, as it is harder to be accurate with such small quantities
  • spillage, as you are handling the 72mg every time you refill. Also getting drops of incompletely mixed juice either on the wicks or worse, on your skin because you are trying to mix in a tiny tiny container.

Please please please will you get some gloves, bottles and something to measure accurately, and do your mixing in sensible volumes? Or if that sounds like too much faff, just get some 24mg in the same flavour and mix with that for now, it will be far safer. You could stick the 72mg in the freezer, ready for when you want to try mixing properly.

Boomerwang · 25/06/2014 19:40

I'm going to leave it alone until I have purchased the necessary equipment. I don't really want to poison myself!

Smile Sorry to be a nag, I'm very relieved though. What flavour are you vaping? Can I help you find some 24mg?

Boomerwang · 26/06/2014 19:52

I'm all right at the moment, I still have some flavours left (my boyfriend's choices, not mine grr) but I do get bored with the same one all the time so when I've got the cash I'll get a couple of spare cartridges or whatever they are called.

Dirt cheap clearos - which are actually very good for the price.

Dirt cheap liquid in lots and lots of flavours. Hangsen is kind of the tesco of eliquids - nothing fancy but nice enough and very consistent.

Check postage rates to Sweden though.

Boomerwang · 29/06/2014 09:02

Thank you for that, you're very helpful :D

Here's a tip (I am new to this so you may all know this already) I've disvcovered I can just add menthol crystals direct to the tboacco flavoured 18 mg nico liquid I buy and get proper menthol flavour without the nasty soapy taste of the methol flavoured liquids. I just add a couple of little crystals, they dissolve easily and it is nice strong menthol flavour like newly opened filters for rollies.

Tipsykisses · 27/08/2014 09:21

Orangefusion what are menthol crystals & where can I get them ?
I'm mostly vapeing mint & menthol but a few have had a vile after taste ,
Maybe those would help so I don't have more liquid to waste .
