stupid question by a newbie

Lightbulb moment was not sleeping due to a cough. Much ashamed i have been a secret smoker for years. Shower cap old jacket and copious amounts of fabreze. Grumpy at weekends and holidays when i couldnt have a fag. Reading the threads on here made me think i could do it. Thank you all
My e cig came yesterday and spent 3 hours on you tube working out what to do
Anyway my query is. I was on about 20 silk cut a day and decided to get the 18mg nicotine liquid. However is this more nicotine than i was used to. I will go down to a lower level next week. Plus if i use a nicotine one will there be a smell of fags?

Hi laser, 18mg sounds about right to start with. It's actually way less nicotine than you would get from a fag, even a silk cut. There is no direct comparison between the numbers on the packets as it's absorbed differently from vaping. You'd have to be on about 50mg to get the same nicotine hit as you would from an average fag.

It's great if you can lower the level so quickly but don't feel you have to rush - you might do better taking your time to get used to vaping (it's quite different) and making sure the fags are firmly out of the window first.

There won't be a smell of fags from any ecig you choose. The tobacco ones tend to smell a bit of caramel but it's not a lingering smell like smoke is.

I just want to echo Plenty's good advice and wish you good luck. I stopped smoking two months ago with e-cigs and I'm still using 18mg nicotine. I'm not going to try to reduce the nicotine level until I feel I've reached the 'safe zone' (not sure when that is though tbh - at least 3 months for me, maybe 6 as I smoked for so many years).

As Plenty says, there's no smell of fags. I confidently predict you will LOVE that aspect of vaping: no more stinky hair/clothes/hands. It's wonderful!

No, you won't smell at all & 18mg is what most smokers start with.

I've been fag free for 1`9 months now, started on 18mg & after about 9 months went down to 12mg which I am still on.

Thing is, it's not an 'old excuse' - nicotine actually does help with stress. It's no coincidence that around 30% of remaining smokers have MH problems. There's a great interview with a leading nicotine expert here and a very interesting podcast here about nicotine's potential as a 'smart drug'.

I was the same as you, twenty silk cut. Don't think it's going to be hard, because its great. I smoked for 30 years, and have never felt this way before. It's changed my life, honestly. I ENJOY it more than cigarettes, and I'm not just saying that. It's lovely to be able to do it in a friends house (after you've asked, and let them smell it) and in my own house as I never smoked inside. It's money to get set up but oh the savings! This will be week ten on Sunday, and I've not even been tempted. Previous attempts failed because I was missing something- this time I'm not, I'm gaining money, I don't stink, and I don't have to stand in the rain. 18mgs is what I'm on, and I don't plan on reducing yet- this is a lifetime thing, so will see. You'll be fine x
