Bad reaction to vaping

It's only been about 2 weeks since I started vaping but have found that I get a sore mouth. Currently, my bottom inside lip is sore and swollen. Last week it was under my tongue. I occasionally feel like the ecig leaks. Would I be better off with real fags because I feel a little worried about what these untested chemicals are doing to me.
Anyone else experienced similar or can tell me if this is a normal reaction?
I have an itaste.
It's actually quite addictive too, I'd almost given up with Nicorette inhalers but the ecig is more like smoking, in that you feel a need for it.

Ecigs do leak a little. And they burn when you start using them. They say don't get the liquid on skin and in your mouth but I do all the time and it seems fine. No irritation anyway.

For me, the burning went away after about 2 weeks use, and now 6 months in it is perfect.

Not too sure about the swelling though. Maybe have a look on a Vaping specific forums and of course the GP if thinks are really not good.

You might be sensitive to PG as I've heard some people are - it could be worth trying a 100% VG liquid and see if your symptoms clear up.

I really don't think you'd be better off going back to smoking! Better to go back on the inhalator if you don't feel comfortable with vaping than to go back on to fags!

Hi Yamyoid. Firstly you say I feel a little worried about what these untested chemicals are doing to me. If you are using a reputable brand of liquid then there are no "untested" chemicals in it - propylene glycol, vegetable glycol, food colourings and pharmaceutical grade nicotine only. All these have been tested extensively over decades, and bar the food flavourings are used in medical products.

You may be getting a bit of liquid into the tube inside the clearo/tank when you refill it - that is the most common cause of getting some liquid in your mouth. If you have a decent local vaping shop drop in there & get them to show you how to do it with the minimal chance of getting the liquid in the wrong part of the clearo - I've been vaping quite a while now & still manage to get liquid down there!

Whatever you do DON'T take up smoking again instead. As Raia says, back on the inhalator or some other method. The reason cigarettes are so dangerous to health isn't because of the nicotine in them but all the other combustion products they give out, so anything that keeps you off the stinkies even if you do get mildly addicted to it will be better for your health.

You could also try a different flavour - this reaction sounds a bit like how my mouth goes on fruit flavours. A different type of clearomiser could help too. What sort of clearomiser do you have on your itaste? If you don't know what it's called, could you post a picture? I think most of the itaste models come with a top coil clearo - you might find a bottom coil spits juice a bit less.

It's normal and very common to find you vape more often than you used to smoke - you don't get a big all-at-once nicotine hit like you do off a fag.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not really going to go back to smoking.
What you've all said is reassuring.
By 'untested' I meant that a few people have told me there haven't been any medical trials. I panicked that this combined with a liquid labelled hazardous/toxic which leaked into my mouth and caused a reaction could be really bad.
plenty that's interesting to know about the fruit flavours, that's what I've used so far, will try another and see if that helps.
I've tried to cut back on the ecig and use the inhaler more.
Allergic, the leak seems to happen randomly, not when it's just filled. Well, actually I think it's when I use it a lot, so will be careful of that.

I'm on spearmint at the minute, and it's been lovely. So easy to vape Iyswim.

I posted a few links to research on this thread earlier - hopefully it will reassure you. The toxic/hazardous labels are there because of the nicotine. It's pretty much impossible to OD on nicotine through vaping, you'll just feel a bit sick and put it down, much as you would if you smoked too many fags.

If it's leaking a bit when you're using it a lot, try sucking more gently. What strength are you using? It sounds odd but you might want to go up a strength if you find you're dragging on it all the time. You can always cut down later. You'd have to be on 50mg to get the same hit as you would from an actual fag.

Thanks plenty, I'll have a look at the links. Dh bought it and did some research but I started using it without really reading up on it, just thought it seemed a brilliant substitute for smoking.
