Hooray to getting our own space (within giving up smoking).

Flowers & Wine (gin) to MNHQ for giving us this space.

I'm hoping some of our most knowledgeable vapers are going to start threads about specific aspects of vaping.

Thanks for the votes of confidence! Some good advice and tips. The prospect of not smoking again isn't as daunting anymore. I really hope my attitude doesn't change because right now I'm happy to never buy another packet of tobacco again.

It's just going out drinking with friends who all smoke that's going to be the real test. Will keep coming on here for support xx

magimedi · 21/05/2014 14:35

If you go out on the Wine - just vape away from the smokers. Many pubs are fine about people vaping inside & if not just go off to the loo for a vape. Don't go out with the smokers!

Must admit I really don't like the smell nowadays - unlike every time I gave up cold turkey.

It's so hard though, I love going outside with the smokers. That's the time for a good gossip! Going to have to change my mindset on that one. Or just try my best not to ask someone for a real cig. Stick to the vaping!

Raia · 21/05/2014 16:52

Two months fag-free here and I still go out to smokers' corner for a gossip - I enjoy the smell of fresh smoke but don't feel tempted to have a real cig, weirdly? But yeah, if doing that tempts you to smoke then it's best avoided! Good luck Charlie Smile

That's how I think about it too Polter - somehow if I trick myself into thinking I'm still sort-of-smoking I don't get all the anxiety I used to get about "giving up" Confused

Vaped in Starbucks today and no-one batted an eyelid!

Allergictoironing · 21/05/2014 19:16

You could look on it not so much giving up as replacing with something sooo much healthier, less smelly, less anti-social etc. Finding the right flavour(s) will be a big help Charlie; if you find something that tastes nicer than tobacco to you then you will be enjoying THAT if you do go out with the smokers

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 21/05/2014 21:11

Yes boozy nights out are a danger zone! I had a slip-up a month or so ago (was too embarrassed to post about it at the time Blush) - I had gone out for impromptu drinks after work and hoovered my way through all the juice left in my clearo. To my credit, I did trawl the length of the high street looking for somewhere that sold liquid or even a decent cig-alike before I succumbed - nothing! The best thing on offer anywhere was a 6mg menthol cig-alike from a brand I had never heard of for nearly £10 so in the end I thought 'fuck it' and cadged a couple of rollies. Jeez the smell! Envy

So, learning from my mistake, I always carry at least one spare battery and clearo and two small bottles of juice - one my normal juice and one the next strength up, just to be on the safe side.

If you are not safe around smokers for now then don't go out with them, you will get past that stage and be able to join them for a blather again soon enough.

FlockOfTwats · 21/05/2014 22:12

Quack I'm on that group too.
I posted a picture the other day of a pint, a smirnoff ice, OHs 134 and my MVP2 in a pub garden Grin

Bought two flavours in a local vape shop today, an american company (I'm told) called epic juice. I got Banilla and a candy flavoured one called 'Airheadz'. Both very nice. OH disaprooves but TBH he is so fussy and just annoys me. I think he's lying and loves them really.

FlockOfTwats · 21/05/2014 22:14

Plenty I always carry extra juice and batteries if i'm going anywhere. I took OHs 134 out today and i thought it had died at the stables. Now considering buying an innokin EP to leave at the stables with a bottle of my gummybear liquid...

FlockOfTwats · 21/05/2014 22:15

(Should read, except today, i take out spare bateries).

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 21/05/2014 22:18

Thank you, yes that's a really good way of looking at it. I'm not giving up, just replacing! I need to get to a vaping shop ASAP and get me a shiny new kit with some yummy flavours. At the moment my sky cig has one cherry and one tobacco flavour left. The tobacco one is RANK. Love the cherry. Don't know what I'll do when the cherry runs out!

Raia · 21/05/2014 22:36

I live in terror of my equipment failing or the juice running out - when I go on holiday I'll need an extra suitcase for the vaping stuff Grin

magimedi · 21/05/2014 22:46

When I go on holiday all my vaping kit goes hand luggage - imagine if it didn't turn up!!!!!!!!!!!

Allergictoironing · 22/05/2014 06:46

I have a medium Ego case that lives in my handbag that contains a fully charged 1300 spare battery, a spare coil, cotton buds, and I put 3 full clearos with different flavours in just before going out (amazing what you can get into those little cases). I also have at least 1 full 10ml bottle of juice in my handbag. This is in addition to the battery with full clearo that goes in my pocket/hand. Paranoid about running out? Never!

Charlie you really do need to get a replacement for that Skycig - you will find that the improvement in vaping is so great that it will really help you with avoiding real fags. A cigalike helped me halve my fag use, a decent bit of kit helped me give up completely!

OohQuack · 22/05/2014 07:01

Small world on the old internet Flock!

Woke up at five with my bedroom ceiling dripping onto the bed. Dropped my phone in a bucket of water and its not even 7 yet!! I reallllly wanted a fag, if there was any in the house id of had one. Sodding housing association are trying to shirk the responsibility of fixing it because im shared ownership.

In other news fast tech arrived so I have longer lasting batteries and a lanyard so I never lose my e-fag again :-D

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 22/05/2014 14:59

Allergic - I know you are right. I need to get to the vape shop. The nearest one to me is over an hour away and 2 bus journeys. But I really have to speak to someone, as its very confusing. Will try to set aside a couple of hours this weekend, ask my mum to mind my DS and JUST GO!! How much should I budget? What is the average cost of getting set up?

Allergictoironing · 22/05/2014 15:35

Well you need:
at least 2 decent capacity batteries
a charger
at least a couple of decent clearos
Some liquid

Very much depends on what your shop is like, but as an example this double starter kit from a cheap (but reputable) on-line shop is a bit under £30, so would be a bit more from a B & M shop. That's a particularly good value starter kit TBH, and most with the same content would cost nearer £40 even on line & maybe more. Liquid anything from £2.50 - £5 per 10ml & I'd get at least 2-3.

Sounds a lot to get properly set up, but that's under 7 packs of fags which is the typical weekly usage!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/05/2014 18:22

Oh that sounds a palaver charlie, I'd just buy online if I were you. The kit allergic linked to is very good value, or you could get two of these (two so you have two batteries). Lots of us are familiar with both of those style clearos so you'll get lots of help right here Smile There are also loads of helpful videos on youtube.

You'll need some juice too. I buy mine from Premier ecigs at £2 a bottle.

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 22/05/2014 19:58

so if I bought the kit that Allergic linked, I would have to get the juice seperately?? Sorry, what are clearos??

I am flummoxed. Really flummoxed. No matter how much I look and read about it, I just don't understand Blush

OohQuack · 22/05/2014 20:07

Just think of it as three bits. Your battery and the clearomiser ( the bit you put liquid in and screw on the battery) the clearomiser on allergics link (id recommend that one too) has a removable bottom bit that you unscrew to pour liquid into, the bit youve screwed off has the atomiser in it which you replace every so often, the atomiser is the bit that turns the liquid into vapour.

If I were you id buy about three diff flavours so you get a variety and your bound to like one, when you put it into the clearo allergic linked to its ready to go after about ten seconds

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 22/05/2014 20:14

ah thank you Ooh!

So, let me get this straight.

  1. Battery (I should have more than one)
  2. Clearomiser (the part with the liquid and the part you actually suck?)
  3. Liquids

can I ask - obviously the liquids are going to run out at some point. But I will not need to replace the clearomiser or the battery? And in regards to the liquid, how long do they last? I know thats a "how long is a paeice of string" type question, sorry. But I am worried that I will run out before I order more online, and then I will have to wait for it to be posted etc etc...as you cannot buy these in a tobbacconist (or can you?)

hope that makes sense

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 22/05/2014 20:15

Yes you buy the juice separately.

The clearo, or clearomiser (sometimes called a tank) is the bit on top of the battery that you put the juice in.

In that kit, you get two batteries like these

two clearos like these

some spare atomiser heads like these that go inside the clearo (but you don't have to worry about that for a while)

and a usb charger.

Here's a that shows you how to use it (although I have only listened with the sound down so have no idea if she's talking sense). There are lots more videos on youtube if you search for 'evod'.

Honestly it becomes a lot less confusing once you have the thing in your hands Smile

charlietangoteakettlebarbeque · 22/05/2014 20:17

I've just realised there is a tobacconist in my area. Googled it and they do have a (very limited) e cig section:

www.thesmokingjacketshop.co.uk/electronic-cigarettes.html

would these be any good?
