My step daugther was late arriving at our house the other week. When her mother finally dropped her off she said casually "sorry she's late she's been snogging in the park." SHE IS ELEVEN YEARS OLD is this normal.

What was your reaction to that??????

What could I say. Her Dad was out and it was just her mum verses me. (She doesn't like me anyway and has only just become approachable after five years) I don't want to make thinks more complicated for my step daughter. I can't tell her dad as he will hit the roof and tell me to stop interferring. They are both eight years older than me. I know I should say something to my step daughter but what can I say without underminig her mum. I work as a nurese and see many young girls coming in pregnant and I don't want it to happen to her.

I think that is absolutely disgusting. Im sorry, but Interfering or not I would have said something. I would have probably asked BM if she condoned that sort of behaviour at that age, and if I were you I would have told her that you see children of all ages pregnant. I dont think its interfering, I think it is being caring and protective of your stepdaughter, there is a big difference. Either BM thinks its funny for her daughter to be doing those kind of things, or she was "exagerating" to see what kind of a reaction she could get from you!

I am stunned - snogging at 11, no this is not acceptable, it doesn't take long to graduate towards fumblings etc as I am sure most of us can testify.

You are not emotionally mature enough to be dealing with this at that age - what the f* is her mother thinking to think this is acceptable - or is she just winding you up. You are between a rock and a hard place so [sympathetic hug]

I told step daughter that I was concerned and what could happen. She just looked at me and said it was only a kiss and she wasn't going to be silly. As for her BM, Well it is probably normal behavior for her. ( I know, a bit bitchy but you haven't met her!)I suppose I'll have to be the sensible parent on this matter. The thing is she views me as an elder sister. There is only fifteen years between us. Thanks for all your views, at least I know I'm not being prudish about it all. I'll try to broach the subject with her dad.
