I'm so sorry to anyone who didn't get quoted - they asked me to file lots of case studies and then didn't use them all.
But I'm hoping that if the article gets lots of feedback then I can write another....

Hi, Just to let you know that I read this magazine each month and I joined this site (yesterday) after reading your article.
I first read through a lot of the posts on the forum and found some to be quite argumentative and some people quite rude and aggressive. But, on the whole, it's been very interesting and helpful to read lots of other experiences and to gain insight from different perspectives. So I decided to join.
I'm due to have a baby in 4 weeks time, my third, and have been on babycentre forums for months - generally dishing out advice. The forum I've been on has been lovely actually and I was surprised when I read all the arguing on here. Still, I guess this is a much more sensitive issue.
In terms of step-parenting, which I'm finding a real challenge, this is new to me and is something I'm going to be seeking advice on, as well as maybe contributing to some of the advice (from my perspective).

Reading the forums definately gave me a lot to think about, but they've also helped me to feel more confident in that what I've been doing isn't too bad either. I don't know any other step families, although I do have a good friend who was brought up in one. He's been my only source of advice so far. Poor him - he's had his brain bombarded with questions.

Anyway, so thanks for the article.

Welcome to mumsnet monkey!

I think you'll find the vibe of mumsnet is a bit different to Babycentre. There are lots of rucks about all sorts of things!! Check out the AIBU threads, they can be carnage . This isn't the sort of place where you can't disagree with someone, or you always have to post supportively - but at the same time it's a funny, friendly, educational and extremely supportive site. There are loads of witty, intelligent, lovely and helpful posters.

But having said that there can be a tendency for stepmums to get an unnecessarily hard time on here and not much sympathy or understanding - but that is something we have voiced our opinions about too.

Anyway, get stuck in, I hope you'll find it helpful.
