I live in the original family home with my DH and 2 DSS’s. My Stepchildren are 30 and 29, pay minimal rent and do no chores. Not moving out anytime soon. My DH won’t be changing this so how do I cope with it? I have a great relationship with them all but sometimes it can feel a little crowded and unbalanced in the household.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Why are you living as a maid for 3 grown men?
How do you coap, you tell your husband that his lazy grown men sons have to start paying their way and do their fair share of housework or you leave and mean it

Exactly why my DH and his lazy, spoilt adult children have left
i couldn’t just suck it up, caused so much tension

i work a pressured full time job, my own DS all work and have flown the nest, they all help do chores when home

I’m not accepting entitled, spoilt adults lying in bed all day and doing fuck all

DH valued being enabling no pressure Disney dad more than he did his marriage
so our marriage is over

If “D”H isn’t paying for a cleaner and cook, or doing it all himself, I’d move out.

I hope you’re not paying 50/50 on food, bills, council tax etc. Fuck that.

Radioheads · 06/09/2026 20:59

Why are you tolerating this?
Are you paying 50/50?
If so, stop.
Start eatin at lunchtime and have a snack in the evening.
Drop any involvement in paying or preparing food.
Likewise laundry, strictly do your own.
I simply cannot see the appeal of a set up like yours, moving into the home of another family.
Drop the rope completely and let them clean up after themselves.
I would be looking around for a small studio.
No man is worth the stress.
