Been with DP 4 years, we both have a child from previous relationships. He has a civil and flexible relationship with his X, I've not met her but have exchanged messages in an emergency situation. Tonight is DSS's parents evening and she has asked if I would like to go instead of her with DP as she took her partner last year.
I'm so touched tbh, it's lovely that she thought of me and so nice to be included like that as I love DSS. Just wanted to share!

That is so lovely op. Reading positive step family stories is a rarity on these boards so this warmed my heart. 💐

I guess it's nice to be included but wild horses couldn't drag me to a parents evening for DSDs 😂

In all seriousness I'm glad you're happy. Nice to see a positive story for once.

Yes we are lucky - both children are happy, get on well and there are no issues, and I'm aware how lucky we are that DP and his X and her DP have a good relationship. The way I view it the more people who love a child the better.

Wow.

That's a bit weird to be honest. It's her child, why's she giving up the chance to go to parents night? Fair enough if she was in hospital with a broken leg or something but to willingly send you is odd.

CheekySwan · 05/12/2024 11:56

I get on well with me DS SM, we have been out on family days and she has helped out with both DS and took them on holiday.

On the other hand, my DSS & DSD mother is a complete shit stirring bitch, has been for 12 years, still thinks her and DH have something, slags me off to no end, and to people she doesn't think I know and encouraged the kids to not like me - worked with one but not the other - has created a whole host of problems.

I am glad you have the better scenario! That's lovely

This is great. I always had a good relationship with my step son’s mother. Probably assisted by the fact that they’d split up well before my DH and I got together. I’ll never forget her genuinely happy reaction to my pregnancy news. She was lovely and sent me home with a bag of snacks for the long car journey home. Our good relationship has endured over the years, now my stepson is in his 30’s.

See, that’s exactly what I mean OP :D

I agree with your approach and sentiment OP, it is my approach too. "the more people who love a child the better” - both for the child, and the families involved.

To be clear, I love my step children. I just don't love parents evenings.
