AIBU to think I don't need to bother sorting gifts for teenage DSC?

We have a toddler shared DC I have gotten a gift "from" but not bought anything "from" DSC.

When they were much younger their mum bought them stuff to give DH, that dwindled and then stopped, I have on an ad-hoc style basis bought the odd thing when they asked me to but this time they haven't mentioned it at all and they have their own money now/own bank cards and I just feel it's not my responsibility to keep reminding or buying these things. They can both afford a £1 bar of chocolate and a card.

@namechangenacy that was a massive admission - that the SC mother is completely toxic over certain dates.

My SC's mother is also toxic however there are certain matters she leaves very well alone. We are aware that certain members of her own family have kicked off with her if SC makes it known to them she has done certain things.

They've forgotten and DH is moping about it.

I'm going to take DC out for lunch and leave them all to it

Oddly I don't have any sympathy for him.

I hope he doesn't spend a year moaning to you though.

Nah he was just like ah they've forgotten again so I shrugged my shoulders and I'm off out now :)

@Reugny thing is to her they aren't toxic it's her way and her values and she's passed that down which is her right and my dp had contributed to that. At this stage in the game I'm unlikely to make much of a impact as my DSc isn't small

I try to see it from all sides tbh. But as much as I may disagree it's really in the end not something I like to prod and test with mum as I don't know how she will react and if people gonna think I'm evil by nature of my title I'm not gonna waste time convincing people.

Dsd didn’t get OH a card or present either for Father’s Day.

and she sat there while our kids gave him presents and a gift. How she didn’t feel awkward I don’t know.

She never even said it.

Really poor effort to be honest from her.

She may think he's a crap father to her.

Or she’s just a teenager who’s selfish, only thinks of herself and in the midst of teen years.

Love how everyone jumps to shit dad though 😂

If he’s that shit I don’t know why she comes over all the time.

LadyBird1973 · 19/06/2023 17:18

Teenagers are selfish. I think that if you love your spouse you try to protect each other from the effects of it. To me that would include reminding the kids it's Father's or Mother's Day. And putting a boot up their arse if they don't bother, having been reminded! Even though with step children it's not technically your responsibility - in the end it's about the feelings of your spouse

I wouldn't dream of it.

They are old enough to make an effort if they want to.

By all means mention/remind them that it is Fathers Day, but it is absolutely up to them to decide if they would like to show appreciation to their father.

I certainly wouldn't be impressed if they chose to ignore it.
