Should stepchildren always be included in holidays? Or is it ok for DH, stepmum and their joint children to go away just them sometimes?

I'd give him the option of attending but make it crystal clear that this is a very different holiday without unlimited food and drinks on tap etc.

Hello EX - can you tell us when you re going on holiday, so we can book at the same time and save monies by not having to take DC away as well.

Not confrontational at all.

Just ask the teen - much simpler, less confrontational and more adult way of approaching the issue.

No it isn't confrontational Confused it's sensible.

I was having a nosy on the step parent board because of the recent popular thread 😆 I wondered what actual step parents think. But your situation sounds quite similar OP, down to the biological mother being involved, are you the same poster but have tweaked the details a bit?

SC join us on all holidays except for once a year when DH and I go away with just our children.
I need that break with just my little family (eldest SC is almost 20 and incredibly hard work). SC are often away on mini breaks with their mum so i don’t feel guilty insisting on a break with my children once a year.

Just had a look for the other thread - not me! I imagine this is an issue that crops up quite a lot with step/blended families though.
