Happy Mother's Day to all you step mums out there. It can be a thankless task but I hope you feel appreciated today.

I don't have any DC (health related) and my DSC don't call me mum (they have a mum and I'd never let them call me it). DSD 12 picked a beautiful card for me which says 'For someone very special' and has a verse about how it's not just mums who make a difference sometimes. Both DSC signed in and I'll be keeping it up for as long as possible.

I know DH took them to buy it so I'm very touched all round. This is my first mother day that we've been married and it means a lot to me.

I've been really unwell lately (fibromyalgia FND and now I'm having tests for lupus) but seeing their faces when they have me that card properly cheered me up.

So here to all you step mums! It's can be a huge commitments with little reward, but it can also be completely wonderful!

My 2 grown up dc unfortunately have a truly awful step mum, I wished so much when they were younger they had someone kinder in their lives!

Being a step parent isn't easy and it sounds like you deserve to be spoilt today.

I was merely commenting that it was lovely to hear that op had been thought of on Mother's Day.

Yes, my dc haven't had a great experience but I was stating a fact not step mum bashing.

Oh this is really really lovely.
I'm not married to my partner, but his daughter lives with us full time and has for for half her life (5 years). I cant have biological children.
There is no acknowledgement of mothers day (apart from me to my mother, him to his mother) and it breaks my heart. I thought maybe i was being over sensitive - but maybe not!

Ah how lovely is that. My DS has a lovely bonus parent in the shape of my DH, it really is true that there are some fantastic people out their who take on others children, warts and all

I’d like to hear the step mum’s perspective given your comments on here! I think I know as you sound just like my husband’s children’s’ mother!

I was told to stay in bed this morning. DH and DSD5 came upstairs with a homemade card which said "Happy mothers day" "Best Stepmum" and a beautiful bunch of flowers. DH said DSD had picked them and said they had to get the ones with the yellow flowers because yellow ia my favourite colour. DSD then helped DH to make me breakfast in bed. Then we all watched a movie in bed and I got loads of cuddles. DSD said she was cuddling me because I was the comfiest.

I've only been a stepmum for 2 years and this was the first year it was acknowledged. I do a lot for my family so it was nice to feel appreciated today, not that I don't usually.

Even my DSS16 wished me a happy mother's day.

Why are you trying to turn a supportive comment on this thread into something else? All the poster said was that her children didn’t have a positive experience with their SM. They said nothing wrong or inflammatory yet you are trying to cause an argument. My children don’t have a positive relationship with their SM either, it’s not unusual!

OP I remember the first time I got a home made card from my DSC, it was lovely and very much appreciated. I hope you had a lovely day.

All I took from her comment is that she's glad other kids gets a good step-parenting experience as her kids did not and that she's appreciates the good stepmums out there as she knows that's not always the case.

I got a card from DSD13 today, first time in the 5 years I've been together with her dad and it was just bloody lovely! She'd wrote inside that she was so happy I joined their family and that I'm the best listener she knows. DH was as surprised as I was, so it was all off her own back.

I've had a smile on my face ever since!

This is a forum for the support of step mums not the berating of them. I am allowed my opinion even if it differs. I am fully aware of how common crap step parenting relationships are, I’m in one! Hence my posts.

This post was made I imagine in good faith to be a positive thing - in what sometimes feels like swimming in a sea of sharks and some bastard has just dumped chum into the water and no boat in sight.

I think most people appreciate there are lots of bad people in this world. Mums, dads and step parents.

However to randomly come on to a positive post saying how common it is that step parents are hideous is a bit tone deaf.

Considering I actually can be a bit tone deaf myself (asd) I appreciate this may not have been the intention of the comment but still.

It's like someone posting happy Mother's Day and someone going glad you had a nice day my mother was hideous/psycho and that's sadly quite common of ex wives, that would also be tone deaf.

That aside since let's not derail a positive post with all that shit.
