I know its a load of drivel and not really taken seriously but Married At First Sight UK 'experts' but a single 32yr old woman with a 40yr old man who was married for 12years and have FOUR children...

Note: she isnt even sure if she wants kids

Am I the only person that thinks thats actually a horrible thing to do...? The poor woman was hoping to find her husband and now shes made to 'fall in love with him' and is an instant stepmum...to FOUR and then learn about his ex wife etc

RUN!!!!

That isn't on and I'm really surprised they did that. I don't think kids should be messed with like that and yes, it's cruel to her.

Bananarama21 · 01/09/2022 19:52

It's all for drama isn't it.

Yeah but don't want people thinking it's a good idea

homarrre · 01/09/2022 20:12

I thought the same thing!

I get that the show wants some drama but they are wasting 2 peoples time. No way on this planet would those 2 work out in the real world.

I'm 32 and have 2 kids and tbh that would scare me off. Can't even imagine what someone without children would think!

Trainfromredhill · 01/09/2022 20:17

The concept of this programme (which Ive never watched) really offends me. It completely devalues marriage. And whilst marriage isn’t the be all and end all, the episode being discussed on this thread also involves 4 kids. All for cheap entertainment??

Namechangeforthis88 · 01/09/2022 20:22

I've started watching this for the first time this series. I'm shocked with the way they are playing with people's lives and wellbeing. I thought reality TV had moved on a bit.

I can only imagine they're under pressure (financial reward) to stick it out for as long as possible, some people are already tolerating unbelievable treatment from their new spouses.

MrsMontyD · 01/09/2022 23:00

It's like the ones who absolutely don't want children, this should be part of the matching process, why let them get "married" and then find out about an absolute dealbreaker at the reception.

Smellywellyhoo · 01/09/2022 23:37

I don't think the "marriages" are legally binding.

SullysBabyMama · 01/09/2022 23:40

My issue with this show is that I am interested in the idea of an arranged marriage, based on mutual interest and a similar future. I am interested in watching that grow or not work.
However this show seems to match complete opposites and it’s awful to watch.

Loocheeyar · 01/09/2022 23:44

I know someone in it and they don’t actually get really married hence some aren’t taking it seriously

Hownowhappycow · 02/09/2022 00:02

Reminds me of the NZ one where the woman was 100% sure she didn’t want kids, and the man was fairly sure he did. Of course that wasn’t going to work out!

Yeah I’m sure the earlier series were more like proper matchmaking but like all reality TV it’s become more about drama and finding the next big instagram influencer not finding a soul mate.

Its not legally binding at the beginning but i thought at the end they decide whether to stay married or not? If they decide to then its real? I could be wrong but thats what i thought.

Still, the woman could fall for this guy and naively think the four kids wont be an issue then of course down the line would be a nightmare.

It’s a huge undertaking for most people and not something the producers should be messing with at all. There’s a reason 75% of second marriages end in divorce! The whole concept is great, but I do wish they’d get back to that at her than just making it Love Island with dinner parties!

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 02/09/2022 08:19

Rather than*

Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2022 08:26

It’s a total piss take

they Early series there was a concerted effort to match people, it was legally binding, and the couples were fairly ordinary people who put in some effort.

now it’s gone all Instagram/love island wannabies - last year two of the couples actually did work out but some of the others were just total pisstakes. And one of the women was so unbelievably awful it was quite clear that her relationship would cause serious drama.

Where do you get your 75% stats from? Not the case in the uk apparently:

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 02/09/2022 12:08

It will come to a sticky end like Jeremy Kyle, I think. Though as I’ve never watched it it’s not really for me to say.

harryclr · 02/09/2022 17:30

Just watched another episode and 2 more people have children...

I guess it is more and more common now...'blended families' - whats happened to traditional families?

OP posts:
SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 03/09/2022 15:02

I can’t remember where I read it so happy to be corrected. Stats depend where you look to be fair!

Most of them seem much higher than first marriages certainly, but mainly around 60%, with 3rd marriages at 70-75%

ANOTHER one with kids

OrchardBlack · 10/10/2022 19:00

I agree OP, and I'm definitely qualified because I am currently going through a divorce with my ExH who had exactly 4 kids, 50% of the time, and I have none.
I loved them dearly and miss them a lot, but if I had my time again I would have run for the hills. Nothing can prepare you for that level of upheaval in your life and the commitment it takes. The fact the groom would go on the show knowing clearly very little about what it takes says more about him and is quite selfish to both the kids and the wife IMO.

I agree! It turns out that particular guy has been arrested for controlling and coercive behaviour ...

No this isn't correct.

It's a commitment ceremony and at the end, in final vows they decide if they want to stay in a relationship

I totally agree that's it's madness to have matched April with George. I remember the gulp in her throat when he said he 4 kids. So ridiculous to do that to her.

I would have thought there was a question about if they would accept someone with kids.

At least Kwame and Kasia both had kids. Matt wasn't interested in Gemma anyway and I'm sure her having kids didn't help.
